Trace rifles in general could use a small buff, but I feel like coldheart and wavesplitter in particular need help. These 2 trace rifles are the only trace rifles that either dont have a role or do it poorly. I mean Prometheus lense is great for add clear, divinity is great for support, and Effigy is good for add clear/agro. Coldheart is supposed to be a dps weapon but has a dps around 20k which can be beat by most legendary specials and some exotic primary's. Wavesplitter doesn't really have a role to play currently.
Coldheart ideas-
1) buff base damage by 20%, and while damaging enemies abilities regen faster. Using an ability reloads coldheart. (Since the gun uses a subzero coolant, I figured it could work like frosties do for hunters)
2) buff damage by 50%, add triple tap and vorpal. Move it to the heavy slot.
Wavesplitter-
Giving it a catalyst will give this gun a huge boost and buff its base damage by 15%. Pick up orbs of power should generate ammo as well as reload and buff damage.

Edited by Smallershrub: 2/11/2021 1:00:11 AMAt least a trace rifle ammo finder
-
wavesplitter is fine if you use it with hunter build coldheart catalyst needs a seirous damage increase when holding it on a target for long periods of time
-
Give Wavesplitter a catalyst that extends the duration of Supercharged Battery. Now it can generate its own orbs and use its ability for longer. Coldheart should have Longest Winter becomes its intrinsic perk, and then add something like Overflow or Lead from Gold onto it.
-
Wavesplitter needs to be reworked to function like Winston’s Tesla Cannon in Overwatch. Have the beam split and track to individual targets. Picking up an orb of light increases damage and maximum targets.

15 RepliesI think Coldheart at this point could be retooled into an actual Stasis exotic tbh.
-
I agree they need buffs, but not the way you are saying
-
The only buff coldheart needs is for it to be fixed. Just like merciless. And I guess also for fusion rifle or auto rifle scavenger to work for trace rifle. I used to love coldheart in pvp, but the ammo economy for it is horrendous. Any ohk wep using special ammo you get 1 guaranteed kill if you use it right from 1 brick, up to 3 with scavengers. But traces get like >30% of a kill per brick. Booooo

6 RepliesColdheart is in a good place i think, some dude not so long ago killed my titan mid super with full health and shield and my resilience is maxed out. I was pretty impressed tbh😁 wavesplitter i dunno as i haven't encountered anyone witb it yet, or at least that i can remembers as im always baked out of my mind🤣🤣🤣

For PVP they should have more ammo but that’s it. Wavesplitter is sooooo bad in PvE lol, plus it takes a special and exotic slot. I’d say increase the damage ceiling for cold heart.
-
And Prometheus needs its original ammo regen back
-
cold gear needs to scale up way more to reward longer damage phases
-
I just use cold heart cause I recently got the catalyst. Use what you want anyway. Who cares 🤷♂️
-
I wouldnt mind seeing legendary trace rifles
-
1 ReplyI actually started using Coldheart in DSC against Taniks as a joke, I have yet to fail his fight since I started using it so it might actually be amazing paired up with Divinity
-
At least you don't think coldheart is a stasis weapon...
-
1 ReplyWhat we really need is an anti stasis trace rifle lol one that does extra damage to stasis supers

Edited by MNN8TV: 2/9/2021 1:05:55 AMWave splitter just needs a catalyst. Also with the champion system there should be an overload mod for trace rifles. Cold heart needs a small damage buff or allow it work more with auto rifle perks. Tested it out myself, reserves and scavengers do nothing, while targeting, reload, and dexterity do. Prometheus lens would also benefit greatly from this as it is more of a low tier-major slayer and needs lots of ammo. Also coldheart applying slow as long as you are hitting a crit would be so cool. Wouldn’t be that broken in pvp as it already has a sub 1.0 ttk. TLDR Needs champion mods Needs all auto rifle perks to work on armor.

It’s true, trace rifles do need to be more relevant in gameplay as they’re really fun to use.
-
5 RepliesSad part is apparently cold heart is bugged, I know shocking something not working properly in destiny, and it's perk is not working with it increasing damage as you hit a single target

I'd start using it again then.

7 RepliesI honestly think the fact that Coldheart hasn't been turned into a Stasis weapon is a giant missed opportunity.

For me, it comes down to several things. All of the Trace Rifles are Exotics, and since we can only equip 1 Exotic at a time, they almost always end up playing second fiddle to the more useful, and dominant Exotics. Ideally, I would like to see a few Legendary Trace Rifles added into the loot pool. Damage wise, I’m more or less happy with Trace Rifles that I’ve used recently ( Ruinous Effigy and Prometheus Lens. I only bought Wavesplitter recently from Xur, and I completely forgot that Coldheart existed ). I am however unhappy with the rate at which they burn through ammo in PVE, especially in the more difficult content. So they either need to be doing more damage per ammo consumption, or they need larger ammo reserves.

1 ReplySeriously. I have not used a trace rifle since laser tag weekend. Have not seen one in the wild since early d2 y1. Fun as hell to use but just completely impractical. Basically a 600rpm autorifle that takes special ammo. No thanks.

Coming from someone that has primarily used Prometheus Lens (35,000+ kills) on my titan for the last year, trace rifles are in a pretty good spot for crucible damage-wise. Wavesplitter DEFINITELY needs a catalyst though!! The orb idea would is a really good one. I’d honestly use Wavesplitter over Prometheus if it did have a catalyst. There’s room for improvement for all of them, but buffing damage even in the slightest would be most likely be overkill. There would be a second wave of laser tag in the crucible haha. If Bungie could tune them in PvE and PvP separately, that’d be ideal. Unfortunately, for Destiny’s entirety, Bungie has never known how to properly balance. They nerf one thing in to the ground while simultaneously buffing something else... then the cycle repeats. I’d love to see trace rifles get their own scavenger/reserves mods or mods in general. Even Liner Fusions have their own!!!! Like come on! They’re classified as auto rifles for all mods, but auto rifle scavenger and reserves doesn’t work. Prometheus is limited to 600 ammo and it burns through it. Some others hold less I believe and we can’t do anything about it. Regardless, I’d love to see trace rifles get some more love. You hardly see them in the crucible and even less in PvE. Side note... it’s always hilarious when I’m melting a team with Prometheus Lens and I make them switch to a trace rifle. 😂 Let the laser tag begin!!! Lmao.

Get rid of the lot.
