Seriously, Bungie. We need to talk about Ikora Rey.

We go into yet another season where Ikora practically does not exist. It looks as if she will have no impact or involvement in the new season's storyline, or activities. She isn't even so much as ACKNOWLEDGED in the Season 13 trailer. Her ambient dialogue/idle lines don't seem to have been updated since Shadowkeep. She repeatedly talks about how "we need to get inside that Pyramid", even though we did that a year ago, and the story has progressed through a whole year and a completely new campaign expansion. You threw us a bone last season with a single weblore featuring her, but nothing game-wise. I love Gina Torres. I do. She's an amazing actress. But come on Bungie. It's been long enough. If Gina is unavailable and/or now out of your price range, it's time to recast. Please. Ikora is 1/3 of the Vanguard, which is supposed to be the Overall Leadership of the Guardians. But you all are having Zavala shoulder literally all of the weight of this, and on the Vanguard side of things he is basically carrying the story by himself. You can't possibly tell me with a straight face that the decision to flat out IGNORE Ikora for over a year's worth of storylines is based on the actual story itself. Ikora should at this rate, be due for an entire season focusing solely on her. At the very least, she needs to be taken off the bench and put back into the game. Please recast Ikora and put her back in the story. She's supposed to be the Warlock Vanguard for crying out loud. At the moment, there is no Vanguard at all. It's just Zavala.

I agree with what you've said in its entirety, but I believe it to be part of a larger issue. Zavala has been stomped on by just about everybody for the last year. Cayde was killed off. Ikora hasn't had fresh lines in a year. Think about it, zavala was the bad guy for a large portion of the warmind dlc. He played the role of Ana Bray's "you're not my dad" foil. After cayde was murdered, the writers didn't let Zevala do squat. In shadowkeep he was AWOL, and I'll bet he's a beta male pushover in this season too (haven't seen the trailer so I could he wrong). Hell even in beyond light he was beta, playing the "you're not my daddy" role for us as he stated his dislike of us using darkness power but ultimately doing nothing about it. The vanguard hasn't been the "leadership" since the red war campaign. They've existed only for us and the other NPCs to disobey, acting as little more than minor plot tension. Tbh, I hate it. I don't use stasis on purpose unless I absolutely have to for bounties or the sabotage quests. I want to be a vanguardian, not Exo stranger's and drifter's little errand boy b*tch. Ugh, zavala over here protecting humanity and all he catches from the D2 writers is sh*t for it. It's such bad character development and storytelling. Honestly, the vanguard are the only characters who ever felt like they cared whether our guardians live or die. Everybody else is too caught up in their own petty drama. Honestly, Bungo retconning Exo stranger to be a "savior" was ham fisted and clumsy at best. Ikora disappearing for a year and coming back to take Exo strangers place, even delivering the same lines, would've been better than what we got. It makes me sad man. I like the vanguard. I'm so tired of betraying them over and over again while ikora sits there inert all day.
