What would have happened if the covenant asked the humans to join?

So yeah what do you think would have happened if the covenant asked the humans to join when they first made contact?

 • The Elites did wonder why the Prophets didn't ask Humanity to join( It was because the Prophets were smelly hypocrites and wanted to have power in the Covenant) and also the Elites respected Humans secretly and were amazed how injured soldiers tried to rescue less injured comrades and how brave they were even when we knew we were alone, outnumbered and outgunned. As for Humanity joining the Covenant, I would say no as we are all for democracy and stuff. Also it would be a bit like William Wallace not wanting Scotland being absorbed into England.

 • * StealthSlasher2: I'd think they'd join. The rest of the Covenant would discover humanity's designation as the Forerunners' heirs which will lead to a splinter in the Covenant because the humans (being human) will probably use this as a way to usurp the Prophets and take complete command over the Covenant. me: after the humans took command of the covenant they gona travel to other star trek galaxy defeat the romulans klingons and cardassian join the federation and become a multi galaxy empire [Edited on 10.22.2010 11:53 AM PDT]

 •
Posted by: Exalted fire I don't know we would probably say no since thier religion was to anialate themselves.
Well, the Covenant thought activating the Halos led to some kind of paradise or enlightenment. They didn't know what the rings actually did.

 • Humans would be almost equal to the Elites and above the Brutes, probably taking the place of a third warrior species.

 • Well many things could happen. Although in the event the prophet asked us to join and we did then we would be better off fighting them after as we would know more about them. Plus by secretly aligning themselves with us we could build a spartan army with no worries and build fleets of ships and when the time is right before they activate those halos then destroy them. Its simple really lol

 • There are a long list a reasons why the Covenant didn't ask Humanity to join the covenant starting with Truth's deception regarding the fact that Humans were the true inheritors of the Forerunner's technology.

 • Everyone would die anyway. The Covenant's biggest objective was to fire the Halos.

 • Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't there a war before each of the species of the Covenant was absorbed? There was the war between the Prophets and Elites, the tameing of the Hunters, etc; I don't think that it would be different for us.

 • I think the UNSC would say "no" to scavenging the galaxy, and "yes" to being in the coalition. But it's all or nothing with the Covenant, and since we wouldn't believe there religion... BURN THE HERETICS! WORT WORT WORT

I'm sure Humanity would have told the Covies "no thanks." But the Covenant doesn't take no for an answer, so they would try to forcefully incorporate humans. Then you have a War, and maybe peace after the Covenant sees we won't go so easily. It's not a fair comparison.
So were the elites.
Uh...Sangheili were capable of space flight around the time they first meet the Prophets. That is hardly pre-industrial. If they were only pre-industrial, the war between the Sangheili and prophets would not have lasted around 300 years! On-topic, I honestly don't know. We may have joined, but then clashed on religous grounds, possibly cultural and definately species-wise (right now we still have racial problems, so you know there will be factions within our species that think 'heck no, I don't want to work with alien scum').
If i remember correctly, one of the datapads stated that one of humanity's greatest desires was to make contact with extraterrestrial life-forms. If that IS the case, I think that the governments of the world (UNSC is an emergency government) would try to study the covenant culturally, but at the frist sign of indoctrination would try and refuse. Once the prophets see this, they may demonstrate a warning glassing of a small colony of a city on earth to scare us into the covenant. If we do get placed in the system, we would go right under the Sangheili, maybe as stand-in commanders. Of course, we may not make friends with them and the brutes and tkae losses due to inter-species racism. The SPARTANs, if they exsisted at the time, would probably be elevated to work with Sangheili as spec-ops groups.

 • Humans like independence and freedom, neither of which exist in the Covenant. If offered admission a few would join, but the vast majority would refuse. The Covenant would then attempt to forcibly incorporate humanity thus creating a war. However, since it would be a war of conquest rather than a holy war, the Covenant would likely end up making a truce if it drags on too long. They wouldn't glass planets either but rather occupy them, which, as we can see from our own history, won't go over well for them.

 •
Posted by: matman25402 The Covenant would never ask in the first place. The prophets knew humanity were the forerunner's chosen people who had to be eliminated. Revealing that secret would kinda disband the covenant.
But this is a "what if" question. There's no "this wouldnt happen anyway." @Izaic- Exactly so that would lead to war anyway

 • exatly, but the problem would be that the covenet was based on the religion of the forerunners, and if we didn't pratice it we wouldn't be able to join. (first of all i am not trying to be agitnst any religion, just stating what would relly happen) it would be like having a non christian crusader during the crusades or something like that, it wouldn't work.
