Dear Bungie
It has been about 3 Months since Beyond Light had come out and I been meaning to give you my opinion on the matter at hand. I am not some content creator on Youtube nor a Streamer on Twitch. I am just a Veteran Player who has been with you since Destiny 1 Beta.
And despite my Veteran dialogue not existing which irks me. That isn't why I am writing this. You see I been stressing for the past weeks or possibly months; on my feelings about the state of the game. I will be hitting several topics such as Raids, Nightfall's, Crucible, Gambit, & Etc.
Keep in mind these are merely suggestions for the game and its Sandbox. I am not even sure if anyone from the Dev team will read this but I hope everyone at Bungie does.
First an Introduction.
I'm Loneonyxwolf, mostly called Onyx and I have been part of this community and game for a long time. Actually I can with 100% certainty say your game has gotten me hooked in a way no other game has before. You have created a story that truly capture my imagination and has inspire me in many ways.
As a Fanfiction writer which I have as a Hobby. The Writers for lore and story have all done a breath taking job and I admire their skill and talent. Bravo on you guys, you deserve a lot of damn praise. And everyone on the Team deserves a pat on the back for all the great work you have done.
However, there is still more work to do.
Now I am not going to point out every flaw with the game. But I will instead focus possible solution or suggestions.
First up, Raids.
Raids are the Pinnacle activity that everyone wants to do. However, a problem still happening to this day I noticed is that those who know what they are doing and those who don't are divided. I am mostly a console player and I play on Xbox specifically. However, when I look for other players to join up on a Raid or wanting to do a Raid. I encounter those people who are less than... pleasant if I put it lightly.
A simple problem that many might get behind is a THREE choice Difficulty setting before you launch the Raid.
One mode known as ADEPT that will teach the individuals the Mechanics of the Raid. This is basically a relaxed version of the Raid that is only meant to teach people the Raid. How it works, what to do, & etc. Not much needs explaining.
HERO could be considered the 'normal' mode of the raid and
LEGEND is the hardest Difficulty one can pick and its a combo of not only mods but it has the same difficulty of CONTEST mode with High Risk and High Rewards. Like if the team fails they are kicked into Orbit and have to restart from the beginning of the Raid.
Up next, Nightfall's.
I don't have much to say about Nightfall's to be truthfully honest. The only thing that bugs me is that the Match making on Legend and above is OFF when I feel like it should be ON. This could apply to many game modes with the same level of difficulty settings.
What could make them slightly interesting is not only unique weapons but unique armor pieces that are designed after an enemy Faction. These armor pieces would act like Pinnacle weapons but have a unique trait that doesn't make them exotic but makes them a stand above normal Legendary armor.
Thirdly, Crucible.
As a player who plays mostly PvE I do not see the appeal to PvP like some others do. And thinks to several Content creators I feel like their Influence or opinion matter more than the next guy. Lets take one of my Favorite Destiny 2 Creators for example, Azetcross. Azetcross is one of the few Youtubers who I seen cover both PvE & PvP numerous times. Not a lot of people do that and especially if they are PvP mains.
However, as I said we will only look towards possible solutions. Now I have a few ideas for this game mod to pick again. So the PvP community is somewhat satisfied. One possible solution is a game mod that you can switch out where you have no abilities, and can only use the guns you have on person. This means no grenades', no dodge, no rift, no barrier, no charged melee, & no super.
You could add a somewhat mini story arc with Lord Shaxx rattling his head about how to test Guardians in ways they haven't been Challenged. And our Guardian brings up an uncomfortable time of when we were Lightless. And how we had push different tactics to get through the beginning of the Campaign. This gives Shaxx several ideas on how to test Guardians in a manner that forces them to not only use their light but be aware of what they can do without it. This game Mode will switch out like the others as well.
I have a few other ideas but I am unsure they will catch on.
Fourthly, Gambit.
Gambit is the PvPvE mode some either love or hate. Truthfully I generally am neutral to the overall game mode and you have certainly improved it. I am not entirely sure how you can improve it either but I did have an idea way back when.
You could give the Drifter a Redesign weapons and armor. But instead the theme would be a 'Dark Age' sorta weapons and armor. As he seems to be the only character to be willing to craft such items. You could take it a step further with his being a sorta Gothic Dark Age type look. This means you have to deliver on not only brand new weapons and armor. But Gambit Weapons could be unique as they both have a PvP Roll and a PvE roll on one weapon.
And Finally, The Sandbox.
Oh boy, the sandbox can be so much more and I have thought up several different exotics. From a Solar Bow that's a Rapid Fire Frame (Seriously, why no solar exotic bow?), to other weapons, their sub-types, and etc. I have to much time on my hands sometimes and my mind tends to wonder.
First up is how can or could we make the Sandbox exciting or Interesting again?
One way I can see the Dev team tackling this problem is have certain enemies more resistant or less resistant to certain weapons and their archetypes. This could in theory have the player base use many if not all the weapons not only on their person but in their vault as well. And Example being Fallen have a higher resistance to lets say, sidearms. However, Bows have a Higher Critical Damage on Fallen.
Instead of tuning everything in a blanket manner. Fine tune everything in a certain manner. Kind of treat the Game like an actually MMORPG and kinda go nuts. Have fun creating these things and don't be afraid to be Bold, passionate, and creative.
How their elemental and Kinetic aspects can come into play but only help enough to make the weapons not an Exotic Level.
For example:
Kinetic is a tough sell but if I were going to give Kinetic weapons a special trait I would have to say we have to look at traits such as Steady Rounds, Accurized Rounds, High-Caliber Rounds, Ricochet Rounds, Armor-Piercing Rounds & Etc. Because I think if Kinetics can roll with other types of 'Rounds' that separate them from elemental damage weapons. I do not truly know how to make Kinetic weapons just as special like Elemental but give me a week and some soda and I'll figure something out.
Eriana's Vow & Posterity are both Handcannons that are Solar & Arc respectfully. You could have a 'Stun' mechanic that is completely unique to Arc base weapons and a 'Burn' mechanic to Solar weapons. Will these be overpowered or need tweaking?
Maybe. Lets take Eriana's Vow for a second and say it triggers an 'Elemental' burn on a Vex. That means it would get burn damage for about 4-5 ticks of damage. The damage being 3 ticks each. so that's about 12-15 points of damage total. Its not crazy but
Arc 'Stun' could stun a enemy for a good 3-4 seconds but not as long as a Unstoppable Shot does with Champions. However, if a Guardian is in a tough spot and is able to trigger that 'Stun' then that can turn the tide in their favor if capitalized on it correctly.
IKELOS_HC_v1.0.2 is a Void Legendary handcannon that can also provide a useful example. If Solar Burns, Arc Stuns, Void will be more tricky but not impossible. most like provide a 'Impact' like effect. As Void is linked to Gravity I would say that this effect should be like restricting or crippling a target. Like the debuff 'Slowed' but instead of 'Slowed' it would simply be 'Weighed Down' or 'Crippling Weight' as its more a Gravity effect.
Stasis is another element that we only have one exotic from. In fact, you could have Drifter process, craft, and produce Stasis themed weapons. As he would be the only one to defy Zavala and anyone else for that matter. And Stasis could have a 'Shredding' or 'Bleeding' effect as the Ice Shards are sharp and jagged and could possibly leave open wounds. Cause abilities already have the slow and freezing.
Of course there is Quality of the weapon. A Exotic weapon will have a higher chance to achieve these effects and sustain the effects far better than a legendary would.
Now, I am no Game developer nor do I know of the innerworkings of Bungie. however, in my opinion the Sandbox is a bit to uniform and stiff. Instead of doubling down, we need to triple down and come up with some wild ideas and bring them in a little so they aren't that overpowered. And again these are merely suggestions I hope The Dev team or anyone reading this takes to heart.
Love
Loneonyxwolf
P.S: I am sorry for any spelling mistakes including my Grammar and etc. Hopefully you can all read this easily.

2 RepliesEdited by Phyromancer: 1/27/2021 7:59:44 AMGreat post. Some of the longest I've seen, but it shows you are passionate of the game. I'm glad you are optimistic. But I hate to tell good people bad news. This would have been great a couple years ago. I don't know how useful this is now knowing they aren't making a lot of content on D2 now. I hope I'm wrong. The D2 landscape right now is pretty shallow. Game has no essence and some population of the community is kinda unhappy. I hope game turns around somewhere and maybe use some of your ideas. But you can see the game deteriorate right in front of your eyes. That's why you're here, right? You could see there are issues on the game, so you wrote this, right? Well, great job. Keep at it. Who knows, maybe "Fantasy Land" will be better and will get some of these ideas from you out in the wild.
