Theory on the crafting of Red Death/Crimson

So, most of us know Crimson, the 3 round burst handcannon that is just universally a pretty good gun. The older of us know Red Death, the older, grittier brother of Crimson. Yet, while we know alot about weapons of the darkness and the light, these two seem to allude us on all fronts. Today, I will be breaking down my thoughts on these weapons. These weapons are known by the vanguard as a guardian killers that they seek to destroy, and erase into myth. I believe that this weapon is tied to the darkness in a way that no other weapons are, they are not born of hive magic and corruption like Bad Juju and thorn, but out of hatred. We know of a few guardians who are simply out to kill : famously the now long dead Dredgen Yor, and the one whose name I cannot recall who targeted Micah-10 to kill ghosts. The cause of this hatred is something we don't yet know. What we do know is that the power of darkness is in everyone, and that is why the existence of these weapons is important. I believe many guardians fell to the darkness long before it arrived, and they crafted these weapons as a testament to its power. They are the ultimate tools to enact what the hive would call the sword-logic, as they are able to cut away the weak and empower those who wield them. With red death we seen the power to heal any damage done and the thirst for the kill was enough to focus solely on the act of killing and reload quickly enough to do it. Crimson, however, was another step in that evolution. It retained the ability to heal on a kill, but it also reloaded itself based on the act of killing quickly and efficiently. These weapons are not simply the work of a mad guardian, but one who has deduced the sword-logic with no knowledge of the hive. They are the blade gifted to humanity by the darkness to cut away all that is weak. Tl;dr: they are weapons crafted by humanity that unintionallymimic the sword logic, yet have no connection to the hive who gave name to "sword-logic". They are crafted by guardians who have deduced this law of darkness on their own.

  • Didn't Toland have a part in the makings of Red Death? Could be wrong but it's in his wheelhouse

    • In regards to Crimson, the lore card implies it was created by a Guardian who wanted to retain the ability to regenerate incase the Light blinked out again. Theory - the Guardian's Paracausal nature manifested itself into the gun out of sheer annoyance at his Ghost for stating the obvious constantly

    • I think byf has a video on red death. I’m pretty sure that the red death was made during the clan wars soon after the city was established. The clan wars were a civil war between new monarchy, FWC, and dead orbit. These battles, yes battles, resulted in hundreds of dead guardians and bystanders. It is believed that any Red deaths found (there are multiple, maybe even hundreds) are to be destroyed on sight. The crossbones are obvious as to there meaning. Red death was a weapon born of hatred, and the reason the vanguard wants to destroy these weapons is so that hatred doesn’t spread like that again.

        • I use Crimson, but damn... Also, another semi-famous Guardian killer: Cyrell, Ghost Hunter. He was rezzed wrong in the mind and went insane, killing Ghosts who haven’t found their Guardians, “saving them from another death.” Rumors say that you can hear his chain clanking and clinking across the Shore, dragging the shells of his victims.
