So lately before I get all bent at my ISP when shots arent connecting (crucible) and loading times are getting bad, I started reaching out in a nice way to the opponents on the other team. Why the hell am I playing against people in Brazil, New York, Japan.??? I'm in San Diego.. there is a decently large population and I have 1 gig down with 20ms latency.
Either the population in pvp is that low or Bungies whole p2p thing is crap..
it's probably both
3 RepliesI left a control match when it was 18-60, started matchmaking and got put into the same match but it was 22-86. I was so mad that I just hid in a corner until Shaxx finally called it.

Edited by livin like larry: 1/20/2021 5:28:45 PMPlaying in Ohio and I’m consistently matching people from Canada (not too bad connection-wise) as well as the UK (this one makes no sense). Population is definitely down. Consistently see the same names over and over again.

Player counts are plummeting again, especially after the last TWAB. They've been averaging in the low-mid 30k range for steam concurrent players lately, if they keep it up the average players will be under 50k for the first time in over a year. Anyways, 35k players with 14.8% playing crucible (current warmind.io number) is 5,180 people playing crucible. That's all game modes except Trials. For Xbox it's more like 2,850 and PS4/5 4,700. These numbers can obviously bounce higher and lower. (I'm using the %PC players and knowing the steam total to figure out how many concurrent Xbox and PS players there are) Between there being no more content for another month and people being pretty ticked over recent revelations on just how bad sunsetting really is being handled, it's only going to drop more before the next season. (then obviously go back up)

2 RepliesId think its cause game is slowly dying off - No incentive to play so its forced to match make you with whoever it can

8 RepliesI call it self-imposed skill based matchmaking. When Bungie switched to connection based, it made a good deal of the players nothing but cannon fodder. Those players get tired of being constantly steamrolled by players they have no chance against, and no business facing. Most give up and leave, some, get the pinnacle and move on. It ends up that with the lower level players leaving, you have nothing but the better players in the game, and they end up facing each other again, just like SBMM. It happens every time Bungie implements CBMM. Every single time.

14 RepliesEdited by Demon_XXVII: 1/19/2021 5:00:02 PMI play against people in Brazil, Colombia, Russia, Eastern/Southern Europe, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Dubai, Middle East), China, Japan, across USA, Canada etc All (minimum) 1000’s of miles away & I’m in the UK (600Mbps/100up, & <20 seconds latency) It’s called a dying playerbase & stupid CBMM - coupled with 30Hz/10Hz(tic rate)P2P Where it seems anyone, anywhere in the world with 14.4K dial up is classed as ‘stable’ - as long as they can access Eververse 😆

3 RepliesYou begged for CBMM and now you have is so Jump in and enjoy
-
2 RepliesBecause it's not a "connection-based matchmaking", it's "cheater-based matchmaking", ensuring you'll get matched with cheaters from all over the world.
-
4 RepliesBecause people in other countries like New York exist. ☺️ You’re not the centre of the universe

I live in ne ohio and I play people from portugal all the time. That’s...a distance away
-
Low population counts would be a good bet
-
the population has nose dived. that's why.

Due to ever so restricting California laws and Taxes Bungie has moved its actual Secret HQ to Guadalajara. Enjoy!
Notice the secret. I know Bungie HQ isn’t in Cali. Bad jokes are still jokes Sarcasm....
3 RepliesYup. Nobody plays this game anymore. Sunsetting gear ruined pve and stasis broke pvp.
-
1 ReplyLess players. My clan roster's numbers of online players are in the toilet. Didn't put two and two together for a long while.

I play on Xbox as well. Player population is down. Most quick play matches started 5 v 5 last night. Couple games I had nearly the whole team back out and it became 6 v 2. I don’t mind the challenge even if I’m not that good but honestly Stasis killed PvP for most players I believe. The only players left are the hard core sweats. Every match was sweaty.

I can’t help you, but seeing as you’re in San Diego allow me to say that I thought that city was the most beautiful of all I got to see in California. Not to mention the Midway and other nautical museums were really neat.
Sorry, all out of salt.
I've noticed the same thing as well. So much for CBMM! I find it is worse than ever now with shots not registering or I am getting one shot killed by weapons that don't have the ability to do so. Most likely I am not even registering the other shots or seeing the player until I am already almost dead. PVP is the worst I have ever seen it. Bungie listening to the wrong players and making adjustments for them instead of what is good for the whole community.

4 Repliesngl, this is why you should be using region lock settings on your router.

New York... different country... hmmm
-
Population issues. That's why my rumble games almost always start with 4 instead of 6
-
I’m noticing the same thing.

2 RepliesI’ve looked on these forums and I only ever see pvp sweats complaining about sun setting. So why is that.
