I was banned about a day ago, due to what I assume was me trying to see if I could edit something. to put some background, my friend told me about a program called 'cheat engine' and showed me very little about it so I didn't know how to do anything other then to change values of things. I'm new to pc as a whole so cheating and using cheat software I wasn't aware was such a huge issue. I've been a console player for 7 years, so cheating was never a thing on there. so with that being said what I believe that got me banned is I tried seeing if what my friend showed me on how this tool works you are able to change values in game. so I wondered if Destiny would have the same affect as another game. not thinking of it I opened the cheat engine and took my legendary shards which was 5185 to be exact and tried changing the value to 5186 just to see if it would work. I didn't really think it would since if it were the case everyone would try this. but like I said I didn't know this stuff is a massive no. and after I closed the engine the game crashed. I thought nothing of it and tried a second time same results and a third putting some large number knowing it wouldn't work but more of me just being stupid. after doing it that last time I closed both the engine and Destiny. with that being said I came back hours later to play IB on my ps4 with friends to notice I was greeted with the message saying "This account has been banned". which I realized at that point I thought what I did was looked at most likely as trying to do stuff to the games code. which in a sense is true but not trying to cheat but more of me being curious. I wanted to apologize for this. if I would of know how serious what I was doing is, it never would of happened in the first place. Since then I deleted cheat engine and have no plans on getting it back seeing now that the tool is used for malicious intent. made a stupid choice but I do wish my ban was not permeant, I'd take a year or so for it but I really didn't think for something like that would be a perma first time offense. I'm sorry for what I've done, I put in an appeal but I fear it will be of no use, since after reading around I see many were in the same place or had other small things like this happened and still resulted in a permanent ban. was excited to try BL on pc as well but I suppose that's not gonna happen now. I enjoyed my stay ty Bungie for the past years.

12 RepliesBungie does have it explicitly stated within their Code of Conduct about their position on those kinds of apps. Sure, you may have been curious about it, but didn't the trigger warnings happen in the first place of: "This is considered cheating," and "Should I check to see what Bungie's position is on this kind of program?" They do state that underneath "Why was I banned?", underneath the sub section of "Code of Conduct or License Agreement Violation", that a reason for being banned is "Using an external program to modify or analyze the operation of the Destiny game software, such as:" and one of the examples listed is "Trainers, mods, cheats, aimbots, or autofire." The cheat program that you used is listed in this part of that subcategory, and if you had done your research ahead of time and used common sense to find out if using this kind of program was okay or not, then you wouldn't have used the program, and you wouldn't be in this situation. However, here we are, where "Curiosity killed the cat." Take this as a lesson learnt to review the game developer's stance on any programs that modify or cheat the game you have in mind.
