I have never seen the community so angry about something and united about it

Sunsetting. A word that strikes not fear, but pure rage into 80% of the player base. Yes there are some that have their own opinions on the matter, and I respect that. But, most players hate it. The reissues of the weapons are good, but do we really have to re grind them? Yes there are going to be new perk pools, but what if we still want to use our old weapons we had so much fun with? Now, back to sunsetting. Weapons were never really op. Yes there are ups and downs, but weapons are eventually balanced. The only real problems were pinnacles. Maybe rituals if you’re picky. You didn’t need to sunset the entire game when there are only twenty weapons that were the problem. Sunsetting pinnacles would have been just fine. Maybe reintroducing them as exotics? Maybe that’s too far. Having an expiration date on weapons makes players lose motivation to play. They get a weapon that’s good enough, use it for a year, then dismantle it into 5 legendary shards and a gunsmith material. Armor sunsetting is a big problem too, especially since they are so expensive to masterwork and very hard to get a god role. I don’t care about transmog, my armor is my armor and I want to keep it. In conclusion, sunsetting isn’t a great thing. It has many advantages, but really, they are outweighed by disadvantages. Please listen to your community and see what suggestions they may have. And to people who say they’ve made up their minds, what happened just before D1 came out? They changed the entire game. Probably not relevant but you get it.

  • As if. This "community " is just as angry about every single TWAB and every single sound bite they can distort. Not that I like sunsetting. I hate it, but this "community " is a joke. For example, tokens have been universally hated since launch, yet now that Bungie decides to attempt to create a better system it's all about "now my 30k tokens are worthless! Way to respect my time!" In conclusion, you people are a joke. Try embracing change for once. See if maybe, just maybe the current system might actually help make your current time spent more useful instead of having Joe from Y2 come in and dominate IB and Trials with his pinnacle weapons and 2 year old armor.

      • A slightly edited copy and paste from another post I made in response to the TWAB:
I find it funny that the reasons behind sunsetting were because of "power creep" and people only using certain weapons. How they implemented it? Took 80-90% of the gear out of the loot pool, reissued less than a handful compared to what was removed, and added a few new ones. It also doesn't help that with the introduction of Stasis and a couple sandbox changes, weapons that were s***/ underused for good reasons became top tier. Remember when AoS got nerfed because OEM gave it 2 tap potential? We're right back at square one on that one, but it's more powerful and available to ALL characters. Or how about any 900RPM SMG with Hedrons? Recluse had no crit multiplier with MoA, so it only did a flat 21% more damage to the head, now ANY 900RPM SMG can do more damage for longer AND doesn't require a kill, some weapons like high impact snipers and Arbalest can 1 shot people to the body with Hedrons. Now what did we get this season not counting reprised/ updated IB, Trials, and raid gear? 1 paid exotic. 1 season pass exotic. I think 8 Europa weapons. I think 4 wrathborn weapons. 1 ritual weapon (3 if you count Guiding Sight and Steady Hand). I think 6 or 7 raid weapons, not including the Gjally knock off. And we're losing how many next season? A total of +20 I think and what are we getting next season that we know of already? 6 ritual weapons. 3 reprised D1 weapons. 2 season pass weapons. 2-3 exotics (season pass and quest). 4 reprised Moon and 4 Dreaming City weapons. Unfortunately, only 2 or 3 will get any use (Waking Vigil, Premonition, and Blasphemer) I would include VOG weapons, but I don't know if that's next season or the one after. Not including exotics and the unknown new/ reissued weapons, there's only 19 weapons next season, and if Adored and the reprised D1 weapons are anything to go by, everything not directly related to the seasonal activity will be recycled content that we likely already grinded god rolls for. So as far as we know, we're still losing more than we're getting when the exact opposite is what the game needs. In the cases of Moon and DC weapons, I never ran into many people using them, and they were sunsetted this season FFS. I'd like my Kindled Orchid, Spare Rations, The Corrupted NF weapon I can't remember, and Blast Furnace back already. Let's also not forget that the new weapons keep getting bad rolls for the most part and the reissued weapons don't get anything new unless they were static rolled until then. The only exception to this would be weapons obtained from PoH and Shattered Throne, and I don't have high hopes for those. Their solution to "power creep" so far has been to take away almost everything (including underused/ s*** weapons like Hush and Oxygen), reissue it instead of raising the power levels, give everyone something that gives many weapons the same killing potential as a buffed Recluse (which is something a lot of people say is the reason for sunsetting), and give mostly s*** rolls for the new or previously static rolled weapons.
The other issue people are having is what they'r doing with tokens, something I'm sure they'll probably do with Trials and IB. Tokens are stocked up so high right now because the loot is capped and can't be used to level up faster, so their solution to the problem they created is to make tokens even more worthless and change the vendor rank system entirely. I'd rather get Prisms than a Perdition, but they aren't taking into consideration how these changes will affect PVP nor did they say anything about bounty changes with this new system.

        • What more can anyone say without echoing something somebody else has said before. People don't like it as it is, that's the short and simple truth of the matter. Who knows how long, if at all, that it will take for bungie to deliver what we all deeply wanted it to be? Right now, it's just a blatant disrespect of my time. They couldn't deliver close to enough weapons to satisfy the number we lost (I wasn't expecting 100+ weapons, but something more than TWENTY) and many weapons have only 1-2 options at best...most of which are OLD guns. Still using gnawing hunger, still using DIRE PROMISE, etc. And then they have the balls to reissue our weapons because they realized making the locations you have to pay for worthless is...kind of a bad idea. I sincerely hope they aren't patting themselves on the back for doing that, nor should anybody be praising them for doing something as simple as they are. It took us giving them feedback to understand that these locations and activities were literally worthless. Somehow they didn't figure that out sooner and their response was to only do SOME weapons with "new" perk rolls, when people literally just wanted to have access to their old stuff they WANT to use. And we don't even get that, because the older versions are NOT being brought up. Instead, we have to regrind the weapons we already own because they don't want us using the old ones. What harm does having the older options around cause? Are they afraid that their probably shitty new perk rolls wouldn't be enticing if we could have the options that are already good enough? If so, that puts a spotlight onto the new perks in general, because if our literal 2 year old guns are as good or better than a brand new version of it, then we have a serious problem with how our power has progressed. People can argue power creep all they want, but some of the perks they've introduced have legitimately been trash. So much so that our YEAR ONE PERKS are still used on pretty much every god roll of every weapon. Rampage, kill clip, outlaw, dynamic sway, under pressure, zen moment etc. Some of these ARE D1 YEAR 1 PERKS. The game has changed so little that the quality hasn't even gone up on weapons. It didn't take sunsetting for players to realize that fact. It's WHY people stopped caring about new seasonal weapons and stuck to things like mountain top and recluse. Because why bother farming the seventh seraph revolver when 2 weapons can be used together and can be used for EVERYTHING. It's not infusions fault bungie creates shit like air assault is it? Or shit like the warmind weapons with none of the good old perks to speak of. And since weapons literally have not been improved, people just ignore new stuff. I don't even see people using the europa weapons and the only reason I see people use the raid weapons is because of reconstruction and how they look. But without reconstruction or any of the raid perks...the raid weapons are literally just shells like every other weapon bungie has made. Even though destiny 1 literally made sure each raid weapon had 1 intrinsic perk or ability. So we went forward, not backwards (towards the direction that did something right) and made weapons nothing more than cosmetics. Weapons as a whole need to be reworked in a meaningful way, because this current system isn't going to work even with newer perk options coming out. Too much just feels like a complete waste of time and sunsetting only emphasized how terribly destiny has handled it's weapons. Because newer weapons are so boring that taking away literally 95% of what we could own wasn't enough to make us use new gear. So they just give it back to us because they don't have the ability to make new stuff truly interesting. Again, it didn't take sunsetting for players to realize this. Subconsciously players were coming to the conclusion that no matter WHAT happens, it's not worth the time investment and with bungie reissuing weapons over and over, we have no reason to actually care for new stuff either, because eventually something we already liked BEFORE is just going to be handed to us as a premium reward. The game rewards us stuff we already own, with perks we've already used, but not actually use the weapons that sit in our vault themselves. That's bullshit.

          • It could if been done with complete vendor refreshing with armour and weapons, and eris could of been a vendor source of dark weapons and armour Eris, Shax, Drifter, Zavala, hunts, europa, raid would of been a start and for the love of God bring factions back it fits into this vendor ranking system your bringing in

            • "It has many advantages" No. It doesn't. It has absolutely NO advantages when Bungie has proven with Telesto that they can just lock certain problematic weapons from certain activities. The ONLY thing Sunsetting does is cause players to quit in frustration, or suck Bungies toes and regrind the gear like the proper bootlickers they are.

I guess there have been several EV related uprisings as well (all failures though).

                                • Remember, these guys sold you tribute hall for $10 and then required many, many thousands of bright dust to upgrade. Back then, only eververse bounties granted dust, and only 5-20 per bounty at that. Your seasonal time was held ransom in plain sight - either spend more money on eververse items to dismantle for dust, or spend all your time doing hundreds upon hundreds of eververse bounties.

                                • I guarantee you this is exactly what happened. Staff meeting at bungie: Guy 1: numbers are dwindling, game is dead, what should we do? Guy 2 who loves video games and has awesome ideas that always get ignored: let’s make the game good. * proceeds to give a lengthy idea on how to make the game great again that would require actual hard work and cost money*. Guy 3 who never played a single video game in his life and hates dorks/nerds/gamers/etc: how about we slowly make all the loot in the game useless but then later on bring it back so everyone has to farm it all over again and again endlessly. Guy 1: awesome idea let’s go with that! Guy 2: gets pissed and quits.
