Deep Stone crypt review

Positives: 1) guns getting perks unique to raid weapons is amazing and should be added to and evolved with future raids 2) The music: this raid imo has beaten last wish for me in terms of soundtrack. The sound team honestly needs a raise. The music perfectly sets the mood and tone for the areas youre in! The opening track fits the winter setting and even foreshadows taniks. Athanasia gives that mysterious vibe. Deep Stone lullaby. The encounter music! It’s all amazing! Bungie really outdid themselves with this soundtrack. 3) MASSIVE improvements made from the recent raids. The raid mechanics are much more exciting versus something like garden or crown. I notice a lot more hero moments and ability to clutch (pls remove the fading darkness timer) 4) the day 1 raid was imo absolutely perfect. I feel as thought it perfectly appealed to all sides and every type of player was included when creating the day 1 raid. The extra time to prepare allowed for a larger group of people to attempt it. While at the same time, the raid was not made easy to allow more people to beat it. This system is so well thought out and it should be absolutely commended and used as the standard for every single day 1 raid going forward. Although admittedly this raid day 1 was on the Easier side of day 1 raids imo. Negatives: 1) NO HARD MODE. Is an absolute no no. I really appreciate that bungie is trying to get people into raiding and make it more accessible. I would absolutely agree that the raid should be easier to allow for more accessibility IF there is a hard mode paired with the normal mode. Making 1 difficulty that is among the easiest raids completely ignores the top levels of players who desire for challenge in raiding. 2 difficulties are an absolute must and allow for all sides to get their fair share. 2) None of the raid guns feature perks to make them stronger in the raid. This is a sorely missed addition from destiny 1 raids that all featured raid weapons with perks that made them stronger for the raid. Vault of glass weapons, for example, had oracle distruster. Also, the raid perks themselves while unique to the raid perks, are not “recluse level”. (Nothing in beyond light is) 3) Taniks is too easy of a boss fight. This is an opinion, but, taniks is just too easy of a final boss. Effortless 1 phases left and right make a very strong raid kinda end anti-climatically. I am of the mindset that the raid gets progressively more challenging as the raid goes on. Taniks is imo the easiest final boss in destiny history (yes, including crota) and I feel as thought raids should always aim to have the final boss be the hardest and most satisfying encounter in the raid. Overall I believe this raid is very very well done. The things I mostly complained about are nothing to do with the actual raid and more so outside things that could be tweaked later. Score: 8/10

  • You know I haven’t done the new raid and I’ve been debating on whether or not to do it because I haven’t had the time. Now I might set aside some time to do it I think you guys have sold me now I want to do it

    • Raid was ok, it was something Fresh was the only reason it was fun is what I thought. Leviathan was fun, Kings Fall was fantastic in D1, Last Wish is ok but better than DSC. All it have going for it was good loot. And again this is just my opinion of it. Also yeah it needs a hard mode or put in the competition mode or something along those lines.

    • this is raid is fun, this raid has forgiveness for when someone dies it's not a direct wipe, the raid weapons are great - scout, SG, Sniper, MG, HC - all fantastic. The raid armor is really good looking. we ran it three times in just over 4 hrs last night. and one of those runs was a first for two. This is what raiding feels like back in D1 days. Is it too easy? who cares, it's fun, the loot is good. after Crown (boss fight in particular) it's nice to play a raid that's not glitchy as all hell. I'll probably run this maybe three more times this week, gotta help those and get some spoils!

      • I like that its easy to manage 4 weeks ago I did a run and 2 people never did a run and I was still learning some mechanics leaving only 3 people who knew how to run certain things. We finish and got to the end. Some runs we had to wipe but after a few hiccups we got through. Older raids if 3 went down people would saw just wipe but now you can manage. Now I wouldn't mind a prestige mode but what would be the reward? Some of the older raids either gave a catalyst or title. I dont like those types of rewards. Maybe double reward instead of one dropping make it you get 2 items, or get more tokens
2) None of the raid guns feature perks to make them stronger in the raid.
Would it have to be a perk or would raid-specific weapon mods suffice?

This raid being easy was by far the best decision because it doesn't cater to the "elite raiders". This raid is easy to learn, do and simple to play. This allows more people to play the raid and enjoy it, this increases the amount of people who know the raid and makes LFG more of a LFG and not some recruitment with the following... MUST HAVE EXPERIENCE, 10+ CLEARS WILL BE CHECKING, IF YOU DO BAD UR GETTING KICKED, NO KIDS, USE THE META OR GP HOME... I can go on but that proves my point. This raid being easier allows a larger population who know the raid and can knock out a run easily in a good amount of time. Destiny is for all players, not just for the "elite" and that's saying something because when the raid came out and was played for a bit. Those "elite" players got their knickers in a twist because how dare the raid be easier than normal. How dare bungie make a good decision to get a larger population of guardians who know the raid and enjoy it versus a small amount who do and a large amount who can never do the raid due to these "elites" gatekeeping I belive the word is.

                  • Agreed a hard mode would be nice but i also felt they needed at least 1 or 2 more boss fights. im really fed up with these 2 boss raids. Kings Fall had 4 bosses that entire raid was memorable all the bosses were exciting to fight and each encounter had you on edge. I wanna see bungie go back to this formula 2 bosses not enough for me to be considered a fantastic raid.

                    • Probably one of the worst, most anticlimactic final bosses in video game history. Oryx was a 10/10. How do you go from Oryx to this??

                    • I'd rank DSC below King's Fall, Wrath and Last Wish, but better than a lot of the others. The loot and aesthetics of the gear/encounters are good. The final boss was a massive wasted opportunity. We could've had something REALLY cool like a Darkness-corrupted Exo frame or a rogue Bray AI. Instead we get.... Taniks. Again. After he was taken, SIVA-fied and nightmare-d. At least Last Wish had an enemy we never encountered before as the grand finale.

The raid is too easy with the most simplistic mechanics we've ever seen, and the final boss is the absolute most anticlimactic thing it could have been. It's boring, not engaging, and too short. With that said, the rewards are pretty solid. Good weapon drops, although just like Garden of Salvation, we're missing variety. No raid pulse rifle, auto rifle, sidearm, fusion rifle, grenade launcher (special or heavy), or rocket launcher. With the state of the game being that we are lacking many weapons, this was a missed opportunity to give us some new ones. Overall, this raid gets a 4/10. Would be lower if the few weapons we can get were bad. I'd say this is one of the bottom 3 worst raids we've ever had, spanning both Destiny and Destiny 2. Edit: if you disagree with my assessment that it is too easy, just go to the first encounter and stand still. You almost can't die because the adds won't shoot you enough. It's a joke.

Id give it 7 out of 10 if I were comparing it to Last Wish. As a experience for new players though its perfect, not to hard or long with excellent rewards worth replaying for. Crown deff gets the lowest score. It was not new player friendly with heavy emphasis on micro management. The finaly boss was also super buggy and they never got around to truly fixing it before it was sunset.

No Legendary weapon should ever be that strong. Trinity Ghoul with its Catalyst is a better enemy clearer than Recluse, but has its own set of drawbacks, as it should. We shouldn't be comparing new weapons/perks to older items that were so powerful that they should never have been made in the first place.

The whole raid is way too easy. Very few enemies, no need to even shoot them really except may be some overloads or the like captains. Mechanics do not include shooting, excepts on switches. Music is nothing amazing. Like seriously try games with real soundtrack pls. No need to aim, or have any gun skill to kill the boss. Real joke. The only fun part of this raid is being in space. That said this is the first ever raid for the new raid guy at Bungie. It’s quite encouraging, but nothing close to Garden. Also Crown is a mini raid from a side expansion, it came with menagerie and many other activities. CDS is THE raid of the year. And it came with a recycled strike and the dumbest activity (hunts) ever added to this game.

                          • Glad the raid was made for everyone to play, looking at the Statistics, more people have play this raid and completed then Previous raids on Bungie website with the data. I believe it be great for a hard mode, down the line.... but the raid itself was getting back to what makes destiny great, getting people involved in raiding again, just not the streamers, elite, or couch potatoes with nothing else to do but raid 16 hours a day, with a season pass rank of 750.

Raid is accessible and fun IMO. It takes a lot of stress off the revive token mechanic, making more hero moments possible for stronger players, which is great imo. I do think it really needs to account for number of sherpas to increase drop rate of EOT. And, there’s no reason a Sherpa should have all challenges done and NOT have the seal. EDIT: corrected auto-corrections.

                          • The combat portions are way too easy, but for the wrong reasons. It feels like the only way to die is to stand directly in front of a boss. Almost like the ads can just be ignored the whole time.

                          • Not everything in the raid is easy to me. In particular - always dread the platforming parts. Maybe it’s my fear of heights or old TV or just that I’m old? So embarrassing when everyone runs ahead & I’m dying over & over. I suppose I’ve run it enough to get a few pieces of useful gear so probably hold off a bit. ‘til VoG Guardians!

                          • I don’t think we will ever see a hard mode again as it basically became the ‘normal’ mode and no one would run the actual normal mode and so there we bigger entry barriers into raiding. I think there should be a contest mode selectable that gives you an ascendant shard for every completion and exclusive emblems, ships, sparrows etc.
