The reason why sunsetting weapons and armor makes no sense is because it's pointless to masterwork them if I can't keep them forever. Sunsetting armor even makes no more sense because I can't get any enhancement prisms nor ascendant shards back from dismantling sunsetted armor so it would be pointless to spend them. Besides I think armor is more cosmetic and a necessity for increasing your light level. Meaning choosing which armor that looks good for you and work it from there by upgrading them to add armor mods to them and keep infusing them until they reach to the current power cap of the season.
Sure I can try new stuff, but I want to keep using my old stuff in case I do not like the new stuff. I want to still have the freedom to decide to either keep the old stuff or replace the old stuff with the new stuff. Speaking of which, ALL players should have the freedom as well because each player has different tastes on what gear they like. The freedom to CHOOSE which keep or replace old gear, NOT to be forced.
Also I would like to point out that there is a website the shows what weapons that are retiring and what weapons that are replacing them https://www.blueberries.gg/weapons/destiny-2-weapon-retirement/. I saw that hammerhead is replaced by Seventh Seraph SAW as a "decent replacement" but those two have different elemental damages. Where I'm going with this is that I would like to keep both of them so I can use one of them depending on the week's elemental damage burn in activities such as strikes.
So in conclusion: This is why I disagree with this sunsetting system. It's not that I and other people do not like change. We would like change but not this kind. Change is not always good.
