Just Copy & Pasting an Event Is No Longer Acceptable

The Dawning was a disaster. 3 years of making gifts gets old, really old, when you do nothing to really change up the activity the community gets fed up and leaves for the event. What ever happened to SRL? Or the Snowballs in strikes/patrols? The gifts every day that opened up quests to get the Void Thunderlord or Solarlord? Where is the creativity? Festival of the lost was boring cause it was the same thing for 3 years... so why did you think the Dawning was going to be any different? Finally, Bungie... we need to talk about community events. You keep using WoW as a staple of community events... but I really question if you remember them correctly. Do you not remember that those community events actually CHANGED the world and ADDED CONTENT? Just unlocking a quest for a weapons is BS and not worth it. Just giving us a free exotic that isn't even NEW is insulting. Use community events SPARRINGLY or have actual environmental changes to the patrols if they are supposed to 'evolve the world' because we can't go to the Almighty crash site... so what change made the world evolve? The tower got a dent...

  • When will this community finally understand??? No matter how you feel, Bungie is not your friend! They are just doing a job to pay off their mortgages and get their kids through college.

      1) People need to realise that what we have / get in D2 now is all that Bungie is capable of producing now. Not because of Covid, or working from home, or anything like that btw ;) 2) People also need to realise that all Bungie really care about is the ongoing revenue stream from EV. There is no need for them to fix the game because of 2), which works out really well for them given point 1) (ie they don't have the ability to fix the game anyway). Edit - to be fair, why would Bungie bother, or bother to bother. Make millions off dresses / idiots.

    • It is acceptable though. We continue to purchase the same boring and mediocre content, no matter how lackluster it is. Bungie has a significant history now of creating less meaningful content and charging the same price for less. Do you think that Bungie cares about these forums? No, they don’t. These forums are for individuals to vent. Bungie created them so that the community feels that their voice is being heard. The forums provide us a feeling of coping. This is why we post feedback, to feel like our voice is being heard. It’s not though. Our opinions matter very little. As you can see over the past several years. We tell Bungie that their business practices are acceptable purchasing the content. They provide us a forum to vent our frustrations. We continue to support their business practices. This is how this cycle works, along with other psychological aspects of the game that keep us coming back. Until we, myself included, stop supporting these practices, we will continue to get mediocrity in return for our hard-earned money. None of this is Bungie’s fault, it’s ours for allowing it to happen and for continuing to support these practices.

    • They should make a new Dawning event, one that doesn't revolve around cookies or insane amounts of community spirit.

      • The latest quest is a beautiful example of Bungie
We rescue Crow from Spider, and Spider specifically tells us to get out because he knew he struck a bargain that wasn't in his favor. And when the cinematic clears, Crow is still in Spider's lair!
I mean we have Hawthorne talking about the Red War! Luke is living in a dream if he thinks Bungie will ever have an ever-changing world, too many things in the timeline get left behind to actually make this game feel immersive.

          • I know not everybody was into it but I enjoyed SRL a lot more than the baking cookies thing. It was a good way to raise your light level with unique armor. I enjoyed the sparrows and custom horns you could win during the event too. The rewards from the baking bounties feel so... generic.

          • I agree, the world of Destiny can be MUCH bigger if they didn't do copy and paste events, if the world actually EVOLVED without just expansions.

They have long become devoid of creativity. This game is on the backburner & is nothing more than a cashcow to them as they ignore it for the sake of the Chinese IP and milk it in the meantime by piggybacking Activision’s work. That’s why there is no D3. They can’t make a D3.

Who's ready for 2v2 on steroids to return with Crimson Days next month? There will be a Community event to finish five hundred million games in a Fireteam.

                • They probably think it is some great repeatable tradition that we look forward too. It is not. It was stupid and corny the first time and not in a good way. I’m not spending my gaming time baking damn cookies.

It is in Luke’s fantasy. How can you hate the same old events? Haunted forest is super cool every year, and the dawning? That’s sooooo fun!!

                • They have been getting away with it since d2 started I doubt they care. They made millions in the year 2020 one of the top paid games on steam. Why would they make new better stuff if they can get away with min effort but max gains

                    • 3 years? Lol, it's 5, technically 6 The Dawning was a limited time event in Destiny that ran from December 13, 2016 to January 3, 2017. It is exclusively a part of the Rise of Iron expansion pack, so it is only available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

                    • What do folks expect.... Destiny is a game that needs a full team to run it and by that I mean an ever evolving world , loot updates and management , and QoL adjustments .... I don't think they have 12 folks working on this game.... Bungie has a new Sugar Daddy in town and he demands a lot of attention..... But if you remember anything , remember this Coldfront broke the game....

                      • OP:
Just Copy & Pasting an Event Is No Longer Acceptable
Also OP:
What ever happened to SRL?
So your solution to Bungie copying a past event is for them to copy a different past event? I'll agree with the community event portion of the post to a point. If the point of the community event is to artificially incentivize the activity while still guaranteeing we will meet the goal, the community event served no purpose. While I'm not in the camp that thought the Dawning reward was garbage (because it was actually more than I expected), I think the community challenge aspect was less than eventful. I'm okay with having community events that don't 'evolve the world', but in those cases they need to be set up in such a way where we can be allowed to fail. For example, let's say there is a community event where the community needs to complete 777 million Wrathborn Hunts before the end of the season where the reward is double Nightfall drops for the rest of the season. If we fail, we are not at a loss from a story perspective. If we succeed, we get additional loot for the remainder of the season. If we succeed quickly, we get additional loot for a longer period of time. Something like this I think would actually get the community to come together to achieve the final goal.
