Players wonder why others are still complaining about sunsetting? Heres why because letting this die would mean we are complacent with how bungie is handling things. Players are obviously unhappy with this decision and feel it needs to go.
There is not enough loot in the game to justify sunsetting. It also takes away from enjoying the loot you worked so hard to get. I shouldn't lose the ability to use my hard earned weapons that i grinded a while to get. Same goes for armor. And the new loot is highly underwhelming.
They call this backlash for a reason. And it shows the resolve on calling out bungies poor decisions on how to handle loot going forward. This game is in need of help and luke and bungie have shown that they dont care. Sunsetting can still be undone.

2 RepliesBungie never listened to you, do like me, forget and look for another game.
-
The lootpool is too small right now I agree. But I think expanding their loot design team (which they are) is a better call than reversing sunsetting.
-
3 RepliesSunset my gear, sunset my business.
-
but its the whole plan. sunset now. bring back later .
-
1 ReplyThey'll just slap a different shader on whatever gun you're missing and reissue it later anyways.
-
But you also dont drike milk with expired "eat-by day"? So why shouldnt Bungie sunset your spare ration, you farmed for 20h?
-
2 RepliesSunsetting was a thing since the beginning of D1. Big weapons for example were reintroduced after house of wolves I believe. Either way, this concept was there but wasn't called "sunsetting" then. Not a shocker really. They just carried that concept forward again and gave it a name.

2 RepliesToo much got sunset and for no valid reason other than to force people to grind for new weapons which we would've done anyway. The main problem bungie was having was because pinnacle weapons which for many of them were exotics painted purple kinda kept new and different weapons from being used. I only just now put down recluse and mountain top to try out warmind cell builds and man was I glad I did but if I could still use recluse I probably wouldn't have made it a regular loadout I try to use in all content.

1 ReplyThe main, and quite honestly only, argument people have as to why they can't is the fact that people already deleted their gear. To that I say, so? I deleted some of my gear, I miss it, but I'm not going to be pissed off if gear retirement gets removed. I always use new stuff, but I like to keep stuff from older seasons as well. The fact that I need to delete stuff I've collected over time is the more frustrating part in a game about collecting loot. Gear retirement can work. It's a concept that's been in gaming for ages. But in all the games that gear retirement is a thing, there's also a leveling system in place. Final Fantasy, Legend of Dragoon, Legaia, Lost Odyssey, and so on. As you gain levels, the equipment you can use becomes better. You upgrade from a wooden sword at lv 1 to a stone sword at lv 3, then a bronze sword at lv 5, maybe a steel sword at lv 8, and so on. And each of those swords have different stats, giving you a reason to upgrade to the next piece of gear. Destiny doesn't have that. Once you get, say, Jian 7 Rifle, you no longer have a reason to get Last Perdition. Even if the perks it can roll with are different, both guns are still 340s with similar stats enough stats, which the differences can be offset by different mags or sights. If Destiny had a traditional leveling system that rewarded us for getting stronger, gear retirement could work as there's a reason to upgrade my gear from lv 50 to lv 57.

3 RepliesEdited by TJ_Dot: 1/2/2021 3:16:05 PMThere isn't enough to make it work It doesn't even work well with this game (sunsetting arc logic for a new gnawing hunger is pointless and stupid) It eliminates like 90% of the incentive to bother with grinding. Some main pain points no one does great at refuting.

Here's the thing... Nothing should have been sunsetted, vaulted, or power capped. We (the community as a whole) go after certain weapons/armor, not just in quests, but also grinds in certain events, and those only found in Crucible/Gambit/Iron Banner, for a reason. They look cool, have certain perks, etc. We have spent HOURS/DAYS/WEEKS/MONTHS to fulfill our need to have those weapons/armor just to watch them be taken away from us. For what reason? You can't give me a good enough reason for things to be sunsetted/vaulted. Why? To make room for other new shiny weapons/armor? No. Because they are too powerful? No. Do you have a good reason for it Bungie? (crickets chirping) That's what I thought. Not sure how to do it, but Bungie should take off the level caps, and actually make EVERY weapon/armor available again. Random drops, new quests, whatever it takes. It could be fun to go find that piece of armor/weapon in a new quest, or have it suddenly pop up in your inventory from a random drop, or maybe even as a specific short quest given by Zavala/Drifter/Banshee/whoever. Point is, it can be done, now if only they would do it.

3 RepliesToo late for me though, so many weapons with over 20k kills on them have been deleted. Recluse, mountaintop, not forgotten, wendigo, midnight coup, revoker, outlast, chattering bone, threat level, blast furnace, kindled orchid... I could go on but it's too depressing

8 RepliesAt this point so many people deleted so much sunset gear to have room for relevant gear it can't be undone.
-
Theres absolutely nothing worth doing at this point. Make other activities and raids relevant again
-
2 RepliesThe most of us already deleted a lot of stuff, so no. That wouldn't be fair.
-
They did it in House of Wolves back in D1. Etheric Light. Make it extremely rare like no more than 3 per season and make it useable only on random gear. No pinnacles or Y1 gear.
-
Can and should.
-
3 RepliesStop playing. Disliked and muted.
-
There sure is. It’s called re-issued loot lol. That’s the plan and I’d bet they aren’t changing it.
-
-
That it can, it can. But i really doubt they will, at this point.
-
I thought they were just retooling everything and putting it back in. And sunsetting weapons I'm ok with.
-
2 RepliesI'm happy with the decision, thanks for asking. 👍

Edited by Wookiee Hairem: 1/3/2021 2:46:11 AMThere's no going back, sad but true. My advice it's let it go. Move on. Play another game maybe.

But shouldn't be, and for no particular reason really, just leave it
