The Divinity is tied to the story of the Kentarch-3. This group consisted of Lisbon-13, Rekana and Yardarm-4. Rekana belonged to a heretical group called the Cryptochrons. They’d sent Rekana and her companions to the Black Garden to locate the Divinity. After wandering through the garden, their ghosts deactivated and fell to the ground. They then communicated with a voice who reached out to them. Likely the Winnower. They then developed powers, possibly ones akin to Stasis, but we know they’re not of the Light. The group fraction off. Rekana and Yardarm wanting to use the power more and more, Lisbon disliking it. They did battle, which we now know ended with Lisbon winning, but at the price of wanting to forget “her” which is assumed to be Piri, Lisbon-13’s ghost. Lisbon wields Divinity (in the Legacy’s Oath Plate lore tab) so we can assume that it was left behind by him. Cayde-6 would then send hunter scouts into the garden to investigate and track them down (mainly Rekana based on her ties to the Cryptochrons) but they found no signs of bodies. Only the results of the battle. It’s a sign of their battle and their journey. Although why we obtain it specifically is unknown. The Cryptochrons deemed it dangerous, which was why the Kentarch-3 were sent to retrieve it.
