I’m writing this assuming DSC is the final fallen themed raid, I can’t see a possibility of another ever coming out.
I’ve seen people who are upset that Taniks is re-used content and there should be something “new.” But this is completely wrong. The two encounters he’s in are completely unique and the abomination is awesome. But that’s not what I’m talking about.
Story wise it was perfect
Taniks was the main antagonist of the Fallen storyline.
Simple as that.
He was the bridge between the old ways, IE: Skolas and the houses, and the new times, times of change. With this he also adapted, working with Eramis whom was one of the heads of that change, the other being Mithrax. To fight someone who takes the best of both worlds and acts as a bridge for them gave us a really heart felt battle. He’s not just an Eliksni, he’s THE Eliksni.
But that’s not all, it’s also the setting and the abomination himself that makes it great. By the time we crashed the space station, we beat the raid, we’ve won, but our fight with Taniks was like a personal obligation. We know exactly who he is, he knows exactly who we are. However it was still like taking out the trash after a meal, but the way he fought and adapted to what had happened to him is what gets me. The fallen have always had to scavenge for new tech, weapons, etc. Taniks was the epitome of that, hell he welded himself to a shank because it was just at his disposal. Even though he gained powers through this, which the fallen always stride for, it still felt like kicking a wounded dog, which is what the fallen have began to be seen as.
Taniks takes every aspect of what it is to be an Eliksni and uses it to try and kill us because he hates us so much. Their hatred for the traveler and guardians, their pirate like aspect, the bond between the old and new ways, their worship of machine gods, and their ingenuity. He’s just a lone wolf fallen using everything at his disposal to fight a one sided battle.
I’m gonna miss him, he had an iron will that no other entity has ever had in this universe, and I respect him for that.
Rest In Peace
Taniks the Scarred, Perfected, Nightmare, Reborn, Abomination.

I think people don't realise the guardians relationship with taniks, for example the doomslayer and the icon of sin. We are a mere guardian and he is this unkillable god that we fight for eternity, it's one of the coolest boss battles imo and i'd be happy to fight him infinitely.

4 RepliesWe never killed his legs, they’re going to split into two separate dlcs, the left leg will be the final boss of next years witch queen dlc whereas the right leg will be the boss of the light fall dlc

Guardian, Archon Of LightArchon Priest Of House Light - old
I disagree that Taniks was the main figure of the Eliksni story ,I think he was more of a oddity, and a side story ,similar to Siviks and The Kells Scourge Before he became a tool that the Splicers and House Salvation used has a weapon ,he was a pure mercenary, working for any house that was most beneficial,no loyalty just business ,the welfare of the Eliksni race was not a concern to him, just a pure Fallen pirate. Figures like Mithrax,Variks and Eramis, are the main players in the Eliksni story now, Variks will help Mithrax grow the House Of Light ,and Eramis will be worshiped has a god when/If she returns -
8 RepliesNext we will have taniks in vex form. The vex will drag his body through the portal. Or...and this is a big OR. TAKEN TANIKS.

Edited by PhNx Hellfire: 12/28/2020 9:12:32 AM
Taniks the Scarred, Perfected, Nightmare, Reborn, Abomination.
The Nightmare of Taniks added to our side, but that is our manifestation of the Taniks we knew. Not the full deal. His rebirth state and abomination states count as the 4th and 5th time. First to Andral Brask, second to Cayde-6, third to us (I personally count Taniks perfected and Scarred as one), and fourth to fifth in the raid. It's something I make a point to say in each of my raid completions, but Taniks has a lot of similarities to Darth Maul from Star Wars. He simply is one being who refuses to die. I would absolutely be happy to see his influence later on for the other Fallen who want a warrior for a leader and find one like him.

I dont really think he was a bridge between the old ways and new ways, since he was just a mercenary and didnt follow any of the traditional fallen values. Varicks is a much better bridge between old and new. Also I'm willing to bet we will see siva return at some point in time which could mean the return of WOTM raid. Sivas return is the only thing that makes sense for cosmodrome returning and nessus sticking around when most of the other Y1 plantes left. Nessus has siva, and in a vidoc we did see a siva exodus black strike variant. Also sepkis prime is returning next season and it was rebuilt with siva. With Rasputin out of the mix, there is nothing to control it.

You think he’ll stay dead since he’s missing his lower half?

2 RepliesWould have been better if their villains actually spoke to us, like Ghaul or Oryx. If we had a sort of rivalry with Taniks(which we kind of do) it would have been a more fitting and epic fight. Just my opinion though.

3 RepliesI dont think taniks is dead just yet. His body burns you and if you die to the burn he laughs at you.

I feel like he's a thematically fitting villain, but not story wise. He's certainly the living embodiment of resilience, one of the Eliksni's key traits. And he has signifigance in the lore, as he killed Andal Brask which leads to Cayde becoming Hunter Vanguard. But he isn't really an important character in our story; we don't have a very deep relationship with him. He was a strike boss. That's it. Not a particularly important or compelling character. He shows up in one cutscene before we meet him in the raid. You could honestly have replaced him with Atraks-2: shank edition and it really wouldn't have made a difference.

2 RepliesEdited by GMDeece7: 12/26/2020 8:55:56 PMTaniks isn’t gone. I’m not falling for that again... We may have his severed robotic head in our nice warm campsite by the exo stranger, but just like Ridley from Metroid, I’m sure we’ll have to kill him again...

Go and play D1 then I do regularly, it’s a good change up

He wasn't really working with eramis he was dead body till he got fixed in the crypt

6 RepliesPersonally I disagree, I feel like Taniks for all his coolness isn't exactly the most noteworthy and important fallen villian He's cool don't get me wrong, but he doesn't really represent the fallen at their core. He doesn't represent a race fallen from grace and willing to do anything to achieve greatness once again, nor is he the best example to show how depraved and lost the fallen have become It's cool that he came back, but kinda weird that the mercenary who didn't give a damn about houses and respected no kell all of the sudden respected Eramis. Like a fanfic writer making bad ass characters respect their OC lol You know what? I'm gonna say it: Siviks would've been a better send off. A fallen so deep in the chaos and piracy of his race that he rejects everything and revels in the pure anarchy of it all. Now that's a great way to send off the fallen and everything they became

Edited by DragonKnight901: 12/26/2020 11:04:39 PMNow we only have to worry about zombie Taniks.
-
Nah fam we didn't kill him in every possible timeline yet, I'm sure bungie can recycle him a few more times.
-
1 ReplyWe’ve yet to see the last of Eramis.
-
I mean minus his head being in our not trophy room trophy room I’m not convinced He perfected the whole more machine than fallen thing better than any before him including aksis who was a god
he was to the splicers
There was no real reason to bring him back, it made more since for aksis or skolas or even vosik
