After the sniper nerf, unless youre on your game with sniping. It just feels bad now, you miss so many shots. Especially in pvp, sniping just feels terrible, much easier just to use a shotgun. Some people are even moving back to Grenade launchers(Truthteller).
Bungie help
Edit: I’m seeing a lot of misunderstanding of what Bungie actually nerfed about snipers. They didn’t reduce the aim assist. They nerfed the cone angle. Whenever you look down your sights at someone, there are cones that come out from your gun. The aim assist cone is how much the game actually helps you land shots. Both inputs Keyboard and Mouse and controller use this cone.
Since controller users aim with their thumbs, they are far more dependent on this cone to help them land shots consistently. Since 70% of the player base is on a console. Bungie nerfed sniping on console the hardest.

I just want my Stillpiercer back

2 RepliesTry taking the Icarus mod off your Adored and putting on a targeting mod instead. Also put a sniper targeting mod on your helmet. We’re definitely in a shotgun meta right now but snipers are still usable.

Community: give snipers more flinch Bungie: understood. We will reduce aim assist.

3 RepliesFunny thing is, I don't remember ever seeing a post complaining about sniper aim assist/ target acquisition, but plenty regarding flinch. Their solution? Instead of increasing flinch, they reduce the AA "cone" or whatever it was depending on the zoom. Make snipers that can see more and aren't up in the enemies faces harder to aim with for controller users, or more than 2/3 of their playerbase. On paper, the best snipers should be ones with a zoom of 50, but the only ones I know of that aren't sunsetted are I think Trophy Hunter, Succession, Distant Tumulus, and Cloudstrike. Even with an unflinching mod, Cloudstrike's flinch feels about as hard as the recoil on a .50 cal sniper in COD back when you shoot fast enough to get accused of a rapid fire mod. Make the "best" sniper one that is basically useless unless you're landing head shots. Of the 13 snipers (legendary and above) that aren't sunsetted, only 4 of are supposed to be unaffected, but less than a handful had an AA higher than 50. "We have heard your feedback regarding sniper flinch, so we have made all snipers with a zoom lower than 50 harder to use by reducing the aim assist cone accordingly." That makes as much sense as it would if they gave shotguns a tighter spread and more range to counter fusions back when they dominated.

Something changed? Sniper feels the same before Beyond Light.

1 ReplyThat's craaaaaaazy, almost like you have to actually aim now.

It is noticeably more difficult on console. I get that its tough to balance snipers, but they haven't felt good
-
So, try to get a succession with the following rolls Fluted barrel, accu rounds, moving target and snapshot with handling masterwork You will then have the highest handling high impact sniper that feels very very consistent Also, 50zoom means highest base AA with +10 from moving target Just gotta get used to the zoom factor, otherwise man it’s soooooo goooooood

Sniper main. Sniping feels bad. Yes I can still go in to rumble and still easily win basically every game while sniping. Yes I can still go in to 6v6 and drop 40s and (more rare now especially with the mercy rule changes) 50s with a sniper. But sniping has kinda lost its utility. 120hc peek shooting is just more consistent and overall better. And shotguns are so damn strong that I feel moreconfident challenging dawnblades with a vorpal shotty and bakris than a sniper. Most of why sniping feels bad though is because shotgunning feels so much better and easier.

its always felt worse then destiny 1

16 RepliesSniping was made more difficult on a casual level but it's still as oppressive as ever at higher levels of play. It's nice to be able to play Quickplay now without Sniper Rifles being everywhere since the average Joe can't top frag with them anymore. If anything they need more nerfs tbh.

My isdues just the whole dome shot animation happening but guys still alive thing.
-
4 RepliesHaha sniping in Destiny is still the easiest in all of gaming.
-
6 RepliesWhen was this nerf? Myself and plenty of players that I've gone against in the past week haven't noticed anything (Every game of survival has had at least one sniper on the opposing team, with several cases of all 3 running snipers).
-
Yeah but on the other hand you had 12 year olds using their god rolled Beloved with max aim assist and a targeting adjuster with barely any penalties
-
Agre! They shold just remove! They have no more reson to be here! I say Leave! Leave thos place at one! An take ur scorts witch u!

Sniping in pvp is fine. Bungie, should increase pve damage for all snipers.

Edited by Double07: 12/22/2020 8:04:08 PMGood, enough with the over reliance on bullet magnetism at Altar of Flame.

Try a higher sensitivity

So it takes a bit more skill now and isn't a complete headshot machine so the community complains about it. What a joke

2 RepliesEdited by Davie4: 12/22/2020 1:28:05 AMSniping has felt bad in pve for most of destiny 2 imo. Much preferred close range being high damage high risk and snipers being high damage low risk with higher skill required. Now snipers are intermediate damage with higher skill than the close range variants and low to moderate risk. Much easier to play destiny since shotgun aping with swords is most viable strat for bosses in pve since damage is so low on the options with more range that the risk factor is actually higher with the options that have range on them. Pvp when I played it during iron banner was almost exclusively primary/shotgun world with even fusion rifles outnumbering snipers from what I saw. I had to use it for the ornament unlock for sniper. I even had some hunter using felwinters in air and consistently one shotting/headshotting me while he was airborne so I’d say shotguns are pretty broke right now and only thing that even slightly checks them is stasis and other shotguns. If they added some form of stopping capability to guns kinda like what gears of war has then maybe shotguns would be more balanced. Right now shotgun rushing is relatively low risk high reward since primary ttk is high enough that you aren’t likely to stop a shotgun rusher at intermediate distance before they enter 1 shot range. I did find freezing people with rift to be amusing even though I did die many times to shotgun rushers right as I froze them.

So you're saying you need to practice more and get better? Use mods that help your sniping game? Get a team that can support you? Nice

It's definitely harder this season.
