<So, we all remember the time Ghost called the Pyramids paracausal entities, right? Then proceeded to compare it to the Traveler? Yeah, so that whole thing is something that required me to ask myself "what counts as a paracausal entity?" and the answer is simultaneously easy and... troublesome.
Beings Imbued with Paracausal Energy
What does this mean, exactly? Entities such as these are individuals empowered by paracausal energy like Light or Darkness or even both. This is pretty simple. Many entities in Destiny's universe are part of this bracket, and many of them are our most dangerous ones. These are beings like Eramis, the Hive, the Awoken, the Scorn, Oryx, Guardians, etc.
Of course, these are to varying degrees. You could be a Hive Knight who can use limited Dark-based abilities and be perfectly simulated by a common Vex Minotaur. Or, you could be a God-King of the Hive and Taken that's so charged with Darkness energy that a Mind specifically designed to figure out how that works is unable to simulate you until it itself is Taken and imbued with such energy. For the latter scenario, which is about Oryx, does his ability to not be simulated make him a paracausal being?
My answer is "no" and here's why.
Living Paracausal Energy - Light
These are what I consider a "paracausal being". What does this entail? If you haven't already, check this out. This is a dead Ghost on Luna. As you can see, once activated, it bursts OUT of its shell. What you see after is a spark of Light, and they're actually splinters from the Traveler itself. Think of the Traveler as their "mother". Anyway, this is what a Ghost actually is, not the mechanical shell, but the Light within.
Since Ghosts are really sparks of Light and they come from the Traveler, this leads me to believe that the Traveler is also a being of pure Light. Ghost shells are actually materials gathered from the world around them. This fits in line with our starter gear, as the Ghost made that, too.
Anyway, back to the Traveler. This massive theoretical ball of Light is wrapped in rock and metal, its very own shell. This gives it protection, but has its own vulnerabilities. See, without the shell, Darkness can easily strike it down. With the shell, perhaps it's more difficult for the Dark, but other things can get a hold of it and inflict pain through the shell. As I found out, that's possible. If you strike critical components of a Ghost's shell, they feel pain. I assume the same goes for the Traveler, as its most recent action was to heal itself as best it can by pulling in the fragments blown apart during the Red War.
Now the question comes down to "what does the Traveler look like?". I mentioned that it was a theoretical massive ball of Light, but is it an orb like the Ghosts are? Does it even have form? To this I say... maybe.
One of the arguments made by the Leviathan of Fundament was that everyone there lived on the edge of a war between the Sky (Light) and the Deep (Darkness). However, it also called them "Formless" and "Form". Later tabs during King's Fall would reveal that the Darkness was the Formless One. This implies the Light has form. This is where things get tricky.
Does the Light have form because of the shell it made? Or does it have form from the start as in a literal orb of Light?
While the question can't really be answered right now, we should see the "Formless One" and its side of things.
Living Paracausal Energy - Dark
If the Pyramids are comparable to the Traveler, then it explains a few things. Firstly, that the Pyramids themselves don't need things like engines or other common ship things, though they are still ships. Second, that they are alive. The Traveler is alive, so are the Pyramids. However, I think the comparison was blown a little out of proportion.
See, the Pyramids cannot be Traveler-adjacent. For that, the Pyramids would have to be the Deep itself, and the personal pronouns used since Shadowkeep go against that idea entirely. "We" implies the Pyramids are many (other things imply they are also a single collective). "I" comes from a different but clearly Dark-related source. I guess I shouldn't call it "Dark-related" because the being that uses "I" is the Deep itself. It IS the Darkness, the Winnower.
The Winnower is the initial propagator of Dark power and is the being that gave Oryx his power. It's also the being that talks to us in "Unveiling". It's also incapable of directly appearing without help. Oryx at one point walked into this Throne World and prepared an Ogre before calling upon the Darkness itself. When it arrived, it took over the Ogre vessel Oryx had prepared. This tells me that the Darkness and other Dark things require hosts or, at the very least, something to carry it like what the Traveler does with its shell.
So the Darkness, in its base "form", is formless. So at the very least, we have an answer for one of these things.
But what about the Pyramids? I've said in posts made eons ago that they may be "Ghosts" of the Winnower. If the Traveler can do it, surely the Darkness can as well. It'd also give contrast between the individual Ghosts that can choose not to search for a Guardian and the collective-minded Pyramids that always follow their mother. The Pyramid ships would be their shell, as our Ghosts have a shell, as the Traveler has a shell. To sum it up more clearly, here's a poorly-drawn image.
With that, I think I've done enough for now. I have identified what paracausal beings are, specifications related to each to the best of my ability. I think I'll tackle the statues next, but for now I'll stop there because I have something important to ask of you all.
The Whispers
Linked here is a download to all 6 voice lines for the Unknown Artifact, which extends to the Ziggurat and Clarity Control. These whispers clearly have syllables, but I question whether it's gibberish or an actual language. We know how Rasputin's speech at the end of Warmind was reverse Russian, but what would this be? Is it in reverse? What IS it?
Depending on the answer, it may be critical to understanding the Darkness, the Pyramid Armada, and whatever beings lie inside those ships...>

1 ReplySlight issue: Eramis isn’t paracausal. Phylaks’ technology allowed them to use the splinters. Her “death” is caused by you breaking her ice machine, her trying to channel stasis without it, abs then accidentally freezing herself. Otherwise 10/10 post.

First of all, excellent post. Very well done Secondly the main question about the pyrimids is are they the Darkness, or are they seperate yet aligned with the Darkness? The line Ghost says comparing them to the traveler has certainly added even more questions, however this is how I myself interpret it. The pyrimids act as physical shells the darkness can act through. Like you said the winnower/Darkness appears entirely formless in our plane of existence and requires a shall to not just act through but speak through. I believe the pyrimids allow me the winnower to be in multiple places at the same time and be present in the universe despite being entirely formless, so when Ghost said that they're like the traveler he was simply refering to both as pure paracausal entities. Since at this time the winnower itself was there waiting to speak through Ghost again Now it is still possible they're just the personal army of the winnower but I'm sticking with this idea at the moment until further evidence for either possibility.

Dang, as always dedication and I learned a lil something

1 ReplyI think Ghaul after his revival into a Light based form is a good baseline idea about a paracausal entity that is less then the Gardner and Winnower but more then a Ghost equivalent might be. Cause that form would probably be the pinnacle of what anything below the two Gods could attain. That’s why they use mediums to gift power. Ghosts, Worms and Shards act as control valves basically. They impose conditions and limits. That’s why Ghaul could revive in that form on his first day while no Guardian ever has. Which would make our harnessing Stasis without an aid all the more meaningful.

1 ReplyGo outside. You are in a one way relationship, Bungie doesn't love you like you love Bungie.
