In case people forgot why sunsetting is bad and why sunsetting of super should be a concern.
Everyone complained back when sunsetting was announced and now that we have seen these weapons and rewards.... all the hype and defense is gone.
Paul phrases it perfectly and the memes are there for a reason.
Bungie is hellbent on recycling content and hoping new light to buy all that was already sold to old players back in previous versions or seasons.
Not sure what else to say

23 RepliesEdited by Crota bin Oryx: 12/17/2020 8:32:23 PMAlso, to give some perspective. I will tell a story about my life experience as a Silicon Valley tech consultant for a household name which is in trouble now due to similar tactics (obviously without taking names to comply with CoC). I worked with a big giant in silicon valley who had a SaaS licensed platform for customers with features piling up for more than a decade. It was a success and always in gartner quadrant 1 with no challenge in sight. Anyways, one fine morning, they decided to 'obsolete' some old features which were too difficult to maintain. Problem was that these were used by 95% of their client base. As a result, they announce a generous time frame for clients to move on and migrate to new features. Everyone agree reluctantly because it was cost repetition to implement the same old business requirements in new platform. As you can imagine a lot of finances went haywire for the client as things which were done and dusted had to be re-implemented yet again. Anyways, the generous time period started running out and clients who were already paying for the SaaS licence fee (pretty huge btw) got more agitated as they couldn't reimplement old feature in new platforms due to shortcomings of bugs or feature not available constraints. The consultancy I worked for started getting concerned with this feedback and angry client so asked across the board to come up with solutions. Obviously, there was no easy cost effective tech solution. BUT, a hero entered the conversation and he was from sales team. This hero suggested that the consultancy should focus efforts on sales and getting new accounts on board so that old whiners can die with their old license. This will keep the books in balance! Lo and behold, the top brass agreed to it and diverted majority of tech budget to sales team. They got sales and new accounts on new system like crazy and stock prices shot up (300%). This fairy tale lasted for 4 years or so until the big accounts (FTSE 10 companies) came back and said they will just wipe their hands off the product SaaS and move on. This threatened bad reputation as the client list will be shallow and sales will be affected as they won't be able to boast about client list. So a compromise was reached and surprise surprise, the stuff that was to be made obsolete is no longer being made obsolete! However, the effect was: - The consultancy lost trust of major client accounts who are now moving off the platform anyway even with promised support. - A lot of tech staff left with their talent and moved on to other honest jobs - Stock price is no longer climbing - New signups are reading about horror stories from ex clients and ex employees so thinking about investment in the product. So, if you replace Consultancy: Bungie Tech: 313 talent Sales team: Eververse/DLC/season pass team Old clients: Veterans New clients: New Light FTSE 10: Streamers (maybe?) Obsolete features: Sunsetting Reimplementation: Gear recycling and reselling to players You might get the picture of what's happening here. It simple maths and economics but I am sure someone is making loads of money with a questionable moral balance. This post is not here to insult anyone, I am just drawing parallels to what happens in other similar situations.

8 RepliesEdited by Dredgen Truth: 12/18/2020 2:55:07 AMI dont think anybody's gonna argue that they've done sunsetting well, all the reissues and lack of new weapons to replace old ones is a problem, but plenty will still argue that there was a point to it in preventing power creep. There was a real reason to do it. The reason they gave to trimming down the subclasses made no sense. They wanted to get some defined identity of them, and trim some extra fat, but these supers and abilities are already part of those classes identity, rather than something unnecessary added to them. Luckily it sounds like they werent planning this yet and luke was just throwing out ideas, and this immediate and obvious pushback to something they clearly haven't started developing yet should be enough. But just in case let's keep it going anyways.

7 RepliesI was ok with sunsetting until yesterday when I got AVALANCHE from the Dawning gift box. I was like "motherf... It was just sunset THIS SEASON and they're REISSUING IT THIS SEASON" I mean if they waited 1 season I'd have let it slide. I'm easy I know.

5 RepliesI will say it definitely helps to have 2 Raids worth of weapon pools to pad out whats available for me to use i.e basically all my favourite guns have been exempted. However that doesnt apply to most people, and I totally understand and agree that what was brought in to replace what went away was... ugh... not enough. Yes, its not reasonable to expect them to replace 8 seasons of gear one-for-one. No, what we got was not enough to cushion the shock. Bungie clearly agree, and they've expanded their Rewards team which is a good move... however we probably wont see the results of this until Witch Queen. Personally, with hindsight, I'd say they should have sunset a little more slowly, like 3 seasons at a time until they got to the season 4 season situation we're at now. Would have mitigated the shock.

1 ReplyEdited by joanespotatos: 12/17/2020 8:07:55 PMOk, my 2 cents on sunsetting: Its a dead horse. That you people revived, killed again, brought back as a zombie, killed it, burned the body, brought it back again as an skeleton and (somehow) killed it again. I dont think they will change direction at this point.
