I really wanted Eramis to speak eliksni, Skolas was done so good as a fallen leader. For a kell to unite the fallen i want him to be as fallen as possible. Sorry but the CHAINZ speech would have been better in eliksni.
Watch the video, it shows just how amazing the language is with Skolas.

Why weren’t Consul, Ghaul, and Calus speaking Cabal?
So the player could understand the plot! Duh!
I guess we need an amendment No Sun ever Sets on the British Empire

Oryx literally arrived and died speaking English all throughout TTK

4 RepliesThey sunset the language.

Well because then you run into a problem. One, If you want them to speak eliskni first you gotta write another character to translate which sometimes isn't possible and just makes it overcomplicated. Two, then you gotta make a consistent language for the eliskni, you can't just have VAs bark into the mic because then you're gonna hear one line of dialogue from say eramis, hear another very similar one from say praksis, and then you're gonna think "hey despite these being extremely similar sentences they sound completely different" and making an entirely new language isn't really easy. So, the solution? Just have them speak regular language.

1 ReplyWould you watch a movie where the main character was foreign and spoke a language that you couldn't understand while everyone else spoke English?
-
1 ReplyDoesn’t Atraks speak Eliksni when you fight her?
-
It's translated for the sake of being easier to interpret. You can also do the same with subtitles, but Bungie never really went with that before so now wouldn't have been much different.
-
They do, and are speaking eliksni to each other, its just "translated" for the viewer/gamer. In hunt for Red October the officers are speaking russian to each other but for the viewer's benefit etc we hear english Unless bungie has said otherwise that i am unaware of.
-
5 RepliesLazy development, Bungie's MO.
-
It’s for the benefit of the audience,it’s easier for the characters to speak English than the audience to have to read subtitles It’s like Germans and Russians in western ww2 movies Eramis was on riis during the whirlwind, there collapse ,she was pretty old,so Eliksni is for sure her native language

7 RepliesEdited by superskybro: 12/16/2020 9:32:59 PMWell it's quite simple There isn't a person alive or dead who knows how to speak Eliksni. Not even Bungie Skolas was intimidating, but overall not as compelling. We kinda need to know what the big bad is saying to truly level with them
-
Edited by Combat Mind: 12/16/2020 11:18:37 PMWell, we do hear them. When we’re fighting them, we can hear them laughing, roaring, and talking in their native tongue. However, when they talk on the radio, per say, our Ghost translates for us (very convenient), and that’s why we kinda have stuff like Mithrax/Misraaks, Eramis/Eramiskell, etc. Skolas I don’t believe was translated because it was pretty early into Destiny 1, and maybe our Ghost didn’t know how to translate Eliksni yet. I think that’s the way it was for Cabal for a while too. Edit: Also, some Fallen use a translator themselves to speak with us. If you need a source for that, I know I can find it.

Most fallen dont know about their homeplanet and language since they are newborn And many fallen were imprisoned in the prison of elders where they learned humanspeak .
-
They learnt English - the language of the universe
-
2 RepliesWe can understand them if its in our language. The word Fallen is hatespeech, the correct terminology is reefborn eliksni. Eramis was a fallen bug though: Variks he's a chill Eliksni.
-
Most of the Eliksni we face now are younger and don’t know their races past and culture as house of dusk is taking interest in human culture as opposed to the older Eliksni like variks and eramis who do remember their culture and try to preserve it which is why the fallen city on Europa is named after a city on their homeworld
-
Now that’s taniks in that video.
I hate it when they change his voice
2 RepliesWe have a Babelfish in our ear anyway. It doesn't matter a bollock. Just like 97.87% of the game
-
Wow, d1 looked and sounded better.

Edited by BIRB: 12/17/2020 10:44:54 AMI just assume our ghost translates for us. As cool as it would be to hear their native tongue, I would like to know what they’re saying. Afterall, I really have doubts that Eramis is British.
-
Edited by demonbane343: 12/17/2020 5:48:01 AMHow many fallen have you spoken too? We have only really heard a handful speak.
-
5 RepliesIt's because the New generation of Eliksni have adopted Human Culture then thier own. Variks, Eramis,Mithrax(Especially Mithrax) are the only living Eliksni that know thier own Toung. As they are the Oldest living Eliksni. May the Kings Kell be remembered as the Oldest one.

Edited by HollowedWayfarer: 12/16/2020 10:59:29 PMI like to think that we have fought and been around the Fallen for so long that we learned to understand their language. As for cutscenes where the player isn’t around, it’s just to let us understand what they are talking about.
