The Outlaw, Epilogue: Forever

They say the first thing that you forget about someone is their voice. I never forgot Cayde’s. And now, here his killer stood. The Crow. It had been a while since Cayde’s death, but I had far but forgotten it. I had helped Eris with a pyramid on the Moon, watched as the Almighty nearly crashed into our City, witnessed the Traveller rebirth itself, and mastered the power of Stasis. But now, here Uldren stood. A guardian. “I don’t remember you, but you remember me. What happened between us?” Crow interrupted my thoughts. “Nothing.” I replied. “It’s not important anymore.” I walked out of his chamber and into the Spider’s den. I didn’t say a word as I walked up to him. I intended to go to the Last City and tell everyone where Uldren was. “Now, Oliver.” Spider said. “Let’s make a deal. Crow and I have a good thing going here. So, I have a proposition for you.” “I don’t care.” I replied, turning to him. “Oh, you will want to hear this.” he replied. He held up a chip, one that could interface with an on-board computer. “I did some digging. I found this. It contains all of the information available on your past lives. Including the ‘Bane of Vex.’” I was interested. “In return for this, you say nothing about the Crow to anyone besides the Vanguard in the Tower.” I considered it. “Deal.” I said, and I took the chip. A few moments later, I was in my quarters on the Rectifier. I plugged the chip into the interface there. The screen lit up. A record of the lives of Subject-442632. Click Next to proceed. I tapped the next button, taking a deep breath. Subject-442632. Oliver Lincks had a wife and two children, a son Grover and a daughter Sara. They were killed in a tragic accident. Oliver feels as if he has no life left, which is why he has signed up for project Exo. Oliver-1: Feels normal. He is very good at hand-to-hand combat and can go long distances without collapsing. Oliver-2: Feels off-balance. Unusually good at Archery. Kept his hand-to-hand combat skills. He did not keep his stamina. Oliver-3: He has kept the best of Oliver-1 and 2. Very good at Archery. High stamina, extremely well hand-to-hand combat skills, amazing marksmanship. When Vex arrived, he fought them off, and was good at it. Has claimed the title ‘Bane of Vex.’ Interesting Character. Update: Oliver-3 has broken out of containment and avoided a reboot. He has taken a ship and we have tracked it to the Cosmodrome on Earth. We sent some frames to get rid of him and tie up loose ends. There will be no Oliver-4. Records kept by Clovis Bray the First. I was shaking. I couldn’t believe it. I had a wife. Two kids. I ran away, and I died. Clovis Bray killed me. We would have a conversation, although I doubt that the AI replica of his brain would remember it. I hung my head in my hands. What now? Authors note: So that's it. The whole story I tried to tell.
