Hawkmoon Kinda Sucks

Might be in the minority on this one, but the perk Hawkmoon has to replace Holding Aces is VERY underwhelming. The base stats of the gun are great, but the perk requires AT MINIMUM 4 or 5 stacks to 2 tap. Which by the time you have that many stacks, the gunfight is over, and most gunfights wont give you more than 3 at best. Would you guys consider maybe adding a benefit that gives 2 stacks on kill rather than just 1? I'm curious to see what you guys think.

  • At the end of the day it's all dependant on how well you can hit your shots. True that Ace may be better, but if you can't hit for sh*t it's not like you're gonna benefit from either of them.

    I see an overwhelming amount of useless comments here from people who feel they're so superior they can talk down to everyone. They give nothing useful to the conversation, so I'll at least give my RESPECTFUL input. I jumped in Crucible this week for some extra stuff and man, it was like 90% Hawkmoon in every match. I was getting 1 and two tapped all over, its the worst I've ever done consecutively in Crucible, so I guess in what I've seen, I'd be ok with a nerf in PvP specifically, which may be coming, but we'll see. I grabbed it myself but haven't tried PvE yet to see how it fares there. I ditched out PvP though because it just wasn't enjoyable. Everyone was playing the same way as the last person, but nothing seems to compete with Hawkmoon. I tried soooo many weapons and strategies, and it was just always constant insta death, .30 k/d. Hated the whole experience. Personally I don't get the appeal of a PvP where its basically all the same, 1 shot kills, that's incredibly dull and frustrating.

    • I have no clue how they thought this could realistically stack up against ace. In PvE and PvP. With ace, you get a kill and reload (with outlaw) and get 5 bullets with the impact of a 120. You have more range than hawkmoon and you have high caliber rounds, and a magazine significantly larger. It also has firefly. It is everything you could want in a hand cannon. With hawkmoon, you get 7 headshots in a row without swapping weapons or reloading and the last bullet does the damage of 3-4 shots from a shotgun or sniper. In PvP you get 6 headshots in a row within the same parameters and get one one hit kill. Just... why? The one hit kill is way overrated in PvP, when an ace with memento mori is more or less a guaranteed kill and you only need one kill to get that to activate. And why would you use a primary for chunk damage in PvE. Gun just has no use anywhere at all. Pretty sad.

      • Oh my god I’m shaking,I’m actually so filled with rage right now at the fact that I cannot randomly one shot someone with hawkmoon anymore, the fact that it actually requires you to aim the gun now is absolutely OUTRAGEOUS, and the fact that it’s able to roll a random perk isn’t even that cool! I HATE playing the game to get a better roll on a weapon!! Good job bungie you blew this one too

Its been designed so that its almost impossible to get that feature to proc inside of PVP, while also being relatively easy to proc (if you land your shots) in PVE. The give away is the fact that all those stacks of bonus damage go away when you try to store the weapon to use that bonus to ambush someone in PVP. They don't want to facilitate that kind of play. No disrespect, but this is the fundamental problem of attaching PVP to a game like this. You are not arguing for something that would balance the sandbox. You're arguing for a toy that you like to be given a decided advantage over all the other toys in the sandbox. When the weapon already has handling and accuracy advantages built into it. I played with the Original Hawkmoon on PS4....before it got nerfed to death. Minus the random bonus damage (which is game-breaking in PVP) THIS IS Hawkmoon. In fact it might actually be even better than the original in terms of how smoothly it handles, and how stable it is over the course of multiple shots. Its more forgiving and easier to use than the Original Hawkmoon I remember. But as someone who frequently would two tap...and occasionally one-tap people with the original? That's not fun. It just feels dirty because its unfair. Because the person on the receiving end of it can't predict when it will happen....and can't counter it when it happens. Its just a random, "I WIN" button.

          • You need a stack of 3 with 2 bullets left. Not hard to do at all, you just need to land crits.

          • It’s only underwhelming if you suck. Get good and you’ll realize it’s an incredible gun. All they changed is that now hawkmoon doesn’t reward you for mediocrity.

            • I literally ran from a dude an etire round because he was wrecking our team with hawkmoon. I got 1 tapped 3 times and ran everyone i saw him after. I just didn't know how many bullets they had so I ran, ha ha ha

            • Don't you guys look at other forum posts before posting your own? There's a stupid amount of these posts on the front page of the forum. It'd be so much more effective to just have one post about it where everyone has their say than all these countless copycat posts. As far as the gun goes, yes I had D1 Hawkmoon and I actually really like this version. It makes more sense to know where the powerful bullet will be than for it to be random. It makes more sense to have to earn that powerful bullet. It makes sense to have random rolls on the gun so you can get an even better version. You all just moan about anything and everything at this point.

                It doesn’t matter the stats here. Reddit is eating the gun up. This is probably a waste of a post. Hawkmoon isn’t going to be changed unless if people start calling the nerf train against it again.

              • The perk and the gun is actually rather good if you ask me..........but the weapon still isn't hawkmoon and never will be. And thus, I am disappointed.

                • So your rating it based where pvp or pve cause all around its a 9 out 10 easy the gun feels solid has good range great recoil pattern on consoles if anything it has way to much aim assist for my liking feel like it gives me free kills

                  • Hawkmoon would be pretty broken if it had its old perk of a random bullet being double damage. Could you imagine the outrage? But hawkmoon in its current state just feels like any other handcannon. Knowing most people to be constant reloaders, this is a hard weapon to work around. Kinda incentivizes you to run dual primaries if you ever want to stow that last bullet.

                  • After about a dozen matches of iron banner I've only been killed by it once. Lol. I see tons of people using it but they are not doing well with it. Seems to be a lot better as a pve gun.
