As I’m sure many D1 vets have noticed, there have been many inconsistencies with the state of the Cosmodrome, but just in case you aren’t aware, let me catch you up to speed.
Cosmo #1: Vanilla D1/Taken King Cosmodrome
- Standard stuff, I know
Cosmo #2: Rise of Iron Cosmodrome
- Giant hole in the wall and the top ball on the colony ship are the main takeaways (not going to focus on small cuts or destruction by the Splicers)
Cosmo #3: The Dawning (Rise of Iron) strike remasters
- goes back to Vanilla Cosmodrome, the ball on the colony ship is back, but we don’t actually see the wall in the Will of Crota remaster (this was likely so they would not have to SIVA-fy the Skywatch all for a strike)
Cosmo #4: Festival of the Lost (Forsaken) Cosmodrome Revisit (essentially the Rise of Iron one)
- essentially mimicking the Rise of Iron Cosmodrome, keeping consistency with main events
Cosmo #5: Shadowkeep New Light (essentially Vanilla D1) Cosmodrome
- once again breaking continuity from Rise of Iron, but only 2 missions took place here
Cosmo #6: Beyond Light Cosmodrome
- finally a patrol area, take note of how the top ball on the colony ship is missing (due to it being the entrance of the Wrath of the Machine raid in D1) but the wall is fully restored
So I guess my question is, what is going on here? There are constant jumps in continuity that don’t add up. It is especially strange how there is a mix in continuity with the wall being restored but not the colony ship. While Bungie seems to like referencing Vanilla D1 and The Taken King more than Rise of Iron, it’s not like they’re trying to wipe remove it from canon. Even just this season and DLC, there have been at least two references to our guardian as “The Young Wolf” (Empire Hunt and Zavala’s office transmission). That coupled with the Cosmo being quarantined (though I guess not anymore) and Cayde’s mention of Rise of Iron back in Vanilla D2 makes it obvious that we still took part in the SIVA Crisis. Maybe Bungo is making changes to the walk that will come with the update to the Cosmodrome in the future (the one bring the two missing strikes and respective areas) or maybe they won’t due to gameplay reasons regarding the New Light quest line. Either way, this is just one of those occurrences in Destiny that is very insignificant, but slightly agitating at the same time (on par with why we keep whooping the same strike and raid bosses over and over, though some instances have lore explanations). What are your thoughts on this topic? I would love to hear what any of you Guardians have to say.

1 ReplyWas just easier to use the d1 models lol that's all

1 ReplyI never played D1 but i want the snow back :( It looked so cool with snow.

How many vex portals have you gone through? How can you know if returned to the same time line you left behind?

Edited by Grays_KS27: 11/27/2020 2:15:39 PMYeah, the Cosmodrome keeps getting changed and there’s no answer for it. It’s just because it’s a video game and Bungie made these choices. The Cosmodrome is no longer destroyed in many places, the colony ships toppled by a Ketch years ago are magically standing to be toppled by another Ketch, etc. And the SIVA Crisis and everything are still completely canon, nothing has been retconned. There’s no way for lore to come up with an excuse. This is similar to the situation where New Lights are still being addressed as the godslayer and Young Wolf.

I haven't noticed the lack of a broken wall but I can guarantee this happened after rise of iron, as the third ball on the cosmodrome ship is missing
-
The walls being repaired always bugged me. Even though there are several things that point to it taking place AFTER rise or iron. The infected seeker exotic ship is a prime example as the seeker class ship from the cosmodrome is gone in a area that would have been infected with siva.

2 RepliesThe wall being back bugs me, but I've decided that the Rocketyard has been closed as the entrance to the Plaguelands was there and that area is still under quarantine. A rare chance for a SIVA Fallen to be part of a public event or wandering around when the cosmodrome hosts the nightfall would be good in my book also.
-
From a design perspective, that's also bugged me. I mean, at least make it look consistent. I started laughing when my fireteam and I set off to explore the Cosmodrome again just to see the starting area look EXACTLY like it crawled out of Vanilla even though the Devil Splicers drastically remodeled the place during the SIVA Crisis. I love Beyond Light, but I am DEFINITELY not above critiquing what appears to be lazy game design.

11 RepliesThey also retcon Banshee: there’s a tower scannable that directly references the existence of Banshee-41 which isn’t possible given the lore dump on we got for him
-
I mean they removed the crashed jumpship that was a D1 mission which makes sense, the vanguard or Fallen aren't going to leave a valuable ship but why not keep the damage done in the DLC.
-
Bungie just doesn’t care anymore
-
Recycled content and lazyness, thats it!

1 ReplyDid the story or timeline ever make sense 🤷♂️

7 RepliesI feel like the Cosmodrome came back at the wrong time, only time someone is there is for like that 1 quest, doing the 'not omnigul' strike and to farm materials. I think it has a bigger purpose in upcoming events but why they decided to release it now just feels a little odd considering theres not much to do on it right now.
-
4 RepliesSo what is the point of the Cosmodrome again? I've had only 1 "quest" to go there. There is no other means for me to go there.
-
1 ReplyI think siva will return in a future season. This is literally the only reason why nessus stuck around and why cosmodrome returned. Exodus black strike has a siva variant which we saw in a pre D2 vidoc not too mention exodus black is carrying siva. Cosmo also talked about the cosmodrome expanding over time (possibly the plague lands) and has mentioned the return of the saber and sepkis strike.
-
I'm sure Bungie said few twabs before BL, that the Cosmodrome will come out small, and will slowly make a full return over seasons till Witch Queen I'm sure. So keep an eye on that!
-
There are a lot of inconsistencies. If I were puting money on it, Id say well...it's Bungie. But if I were wildly speculating things that probably are not true at all... I might think that maybe the Cosmobone is caught in a time loop. I mean, dude is wearing Ahamkaras Spine.. That's like, so ancient meta....lol

7 RepliesAlso minor thing where is the cave where you orginial got resed by your ghost. Did anyone else notice that was missing?

Man shit hasn’t been the same since I’ve step foot into that vault of glass...

it doesn't help that VO of Shaw Han sounds exactly like the voice actor of Shiro-4 in Rise of Iron

Parts of the cosmodrome go on winter vacation.
-
4 RepliesYeah the only plausible explanation I have is the vanguard commissioned a repair or something for some odd reason idk they should either edit the hole back in or explain why it’s patched up

In regards to the will of crota. Splicers and siva were still there during the first couple fights.
