This Isn't Even A Joke, Nerf Wyverns

I should not be getting one shot by Wyverns that are many levels below me. Enough with the “get gud” comments. You all are missing the point. Wyverns are able to one hit you at close to medium range, on almost any difficulty at almost any level. And everyone saying “use a shotgun” or “use a sword” clearly have not tried exactly that. By the time you get in close proximity to the wyvern, it takes one look at you, and kills you in one shot. Sweatcicle even said to nerf them after he kept getting farmed by them in a legend lost sector. I got farmed by one today in a legend empire hunt (solo). BTW, since I seem to have the need to reiterate this for many of you... the only problem I have with them is the damage they deal. They deal about as much damage as a cyclops shot. The difference between them? Well, a cyclops always has a crit spot open and shoots at a MUCH slower rate. It makes sense, if something is going to hit harder, then make it shoot slower... that has been a mechanic in every fps in gaming history. The problem with wyverns, is that they essentially shoot a projectile with the same if not more damage than a cyclops shot, and at a 10x faster fire rate. Not to mention you can never seem to get off enough shots to stagger them and have them reveal their crit spot, before being in their line of sight for too long to the point that they take one look at you and kill you in one shot.

  • A lot of sweats are just throwing the phrase "git gud" around just to be undermining and make themselves look like pros. It's not helpful. Some players struggle with an enemy in the game, like the Wyverns, and that's okay. Drop the artificial alpha ego please and share something insightful. Now it's my turn to be helpful; I can only share what has worked for me: -To stagger a Wyvern, do NOT shoot the head, shoot its cannons. Then it'll expose its crit spot. -Using Echo of Undermining, throwing a Void grenade (Magnetic works well for me) before dealing additional damage should help significantly. -Rip it's health away; Outbreak Perfected excels at this (if you kill enemies around the Wyvern as well, that's more nanites to rip at its health, too) -Push comes to shove, Heavy weapons work well As for what I've seen: -Attacking its stagger points with the Arbalest seemed to be highly effective in dealing large amounts of damage As for suggestions: -Someone here mentioned Xenophage. Worth a try. -I hear Osteostriga is "the combination of Thorn with an auto rifle" Anything that can melt Wyvern health is worth a go Hope this genuinely helps; I will continue to look for bigger and better methods of taking them down. I've been seeing them a lot since me and my two friends have been running Vault of Glass endlessly this week.

  • I'll agree with you and I have tried using a shotgun, the thing about Wyvern's is that for some reason their damage feels almost akin to that of a Cyclops. Even at long range. It depends on if you get hit by X bolts the minimum for a death (because hurr durr Res doesn't matter as a stat apart from Titan Barricade) is 4 of the Void Bolts to hit you. Not even all 5 need to hit. And if they are at close range and using a shotgun you got about 3 seconds after the stun to shoot it 3 more times with your shotgun due to how much of a damage sponge they are. Oh and of course their flying kick that sends you back as much as a boss stomp seems a little excessive since we already have to deal so much with the architects anyway. While I do understand that these leggy bois are supposed to be 'Mobile Weapon Platforms' perhaps some fine tuning is in order. Because currently fighting them is on par with fighting Overload Champions (vex) or Barrier Champions (Knights). We already need to deal with the former in the lost sector itself. The damage could be modified, make their stun threshold have to do with hitting the fins with enough damage (like Cabal Phalanxes), Just something to make their weakness more obvious. They should be slow, yes sure hit a bit hard, but maybe also make the Resilience stat matter too that way we can... I dunno... take a better hit than a wet doughnut?

      • Buff Wyverns imo. I personally think ALL of their attacks should one shot you regardless of range of level.

        • I mean, imma explain my personal counter here. Aside from that one boss wyvern that can't be finished in the one empire hunt, you only need to weaken the wyvern to about half health, bait it around a corner, and just finish it. Aside from that, wyverns as laughably easy to shoot from a range. Even the perdition master lost sector is easy once you realize you can just cheese them. It's actually kinda sad since they shoot so slow and their projectiles are also very slow. I mean, you kinda have only yourself to blame if you run at one head on and die to it... it's weapons are pretty much a "just don't run at me, it's basically a slow moving shotgun laser". Think that Austin Powers scene where the security guard gets run over. You have everything in your power to not let it happen.

        • All you annoying FOOLS saying "get good" missed the entire point he's making. Destiny IS NOT A HARD GAME. You want to be challenged, go play Dark Souls. Destiny is a fantasy MMO RPG. The point of the game is a looter shooter power fantasy. If getting better loot and being higher level than enemies does not matter, then the entire point of the game is null and void at a fundamental level. It's really that simple. Should you be able to 1 shot them? No. But they shouldn't be able to 1 shot you either AT ANY RANGE if you are higher level than them and have better gear. That is the only way the game has any validity in its fundamental gameplay loop. If I get 1 shot by an enemy whether I'm 200 levels below it, or 200 levels above it, then what exactly is the point of grinding for higher level gear? Why even have a power level for me OR the enemy? THAT is the point he's making. "Get Good" is acceptable for PVP or raids. Pinnacle, Endgame, Competative activities. There is no reason for these to spawn in the open world, public events, or lost sectors. And for those of you talking about how champions are "artificial difficulty", in what way are wyverns ANY better. A bullet sponge enemy that requires you to stay as far back as possible or get 1 shot while you waste magazine after magazine slowly whittling its health down is THE DEFINITION of artificial difficulty. At least champions require specific mods and strategies, ya know, like EVERY OTHER RPG. I can prove this very easily. Lower the health of both enemies to require 1 magazine to kill. Are wyverns still difficult? No. But champions? Yes. You would still have to deal with barriers champions putting up their shield and regenerating their health. You would still have to stun unstoppable champions to keep them from deleting you before you can get a full magazine into them. You would still have to disrupt overloads to stop their persistent health regeneration. These enemies force you to actually employ different tactics and require specific builds to beat them. There is NOTHING difficult about a Wyvern aside from it being a bullet sponge that can 1 shot. That is not difficulty. It's poor game design. Anyone who doesn't understand that simply doesn't understand the point of games like this and doesn't understand game design.

I hope bungie doesn’t decide to reduce their damage, but make them overload/barrier and makes their damage higher than the original, now that would be a nightmare

          • wyverns attack are like shotgun hits. just dont try to braindead sword them to death and your fine. dps will make them flinch so they open their crit. they have also a crit spot on their back. in a fireteam one can get aggro and the other person can dps from behind (similar to scourge raid captains). just keep your distance. i kill them with sniper or divinity when doing solo 1250/1280 activities and they are ulletsponges but easy to handle if you pay respect to the fact of their tankyness/damage

              • Red Bar Wyverns can be finished at half health. NBD if you're running Reactive Pulse. They might be "hard" enemies, but the game is better for it. Not everything needs to die in 2 shots or less, it makes the game quite boring hell, look at Doom Eternal, most decently skilled players don't mind the Marauder in that game cause the Marauder is THE skill check

                • I’m gonna say no, it’s honestly refreshing having somewhat threatening enemies in this game besides artificially annoying champions. I’d trade every champion in the game for more wyverns or brigs.

You have to peek around cover and chip away at them. They're tough. And this is 100% a good thing. There should be challenging enemies. Not everything should die in two seconds. That's just dull.

                • They rare up. Just jump back. Peek shooting works well too. And just in case you didn’t know, When they’re frozen by stasis their Crit spot opens up automatically. Easy pickings.

-blam!- Sweatcicle. Crying streamer babies. Seriously. As if their opinion matters only. Stay away from them or use Stasis on them. They were designed as pushers, shielding their allies with their wing like arms and they also purposely put themselfes in front of them. They use a weapon which shares similarities to a shotgun. The laser splits and the cone widens the longer the projectiles fly. Therefore a single beam from far away barely does any damage. So yes, you will and you should get one shotted right in front of them.

                  • And add to that list the overload captain. I understand the stasis grenade can basically insta kill the especially with the overload but their teleport needs to be toned down a bit. I had one spam it just to get behind me when I was in cover. And Idk if it's because I'm just seeing things which is possible but I swear it took longer to overload them than it does the minotaurs
