Planets that were swallowed by darkness
So I get we cant do any strikes that were in planets that went away but why and how are we still able to play crucible and gambit matches on Titan and Mars like wat da fuk...? I'm not complaining that we have more maps I'm just curious

I don’t like how a lot of replies are implying and even down right saying the planets didn’t disappear. They did. The cutscene that plays when you first boot up Beyond Light explains that Guardians are trying to find out where the planets went and how it happened. So these planets truly disappeared. To answer your question, there is no true explanation lore-wise. At least to my knowledge. It’s just a really big inconsistency from Bungie. Kinda saw this one coming. I mean, on Javelin-4, you can see the Cradle in the distance , but no Pyramid above it. And actually given the position, the tip of the pyramid would be directly above the map I believe. But then again, that Pyramid wasn’t visible even during Arrivals, neither was any of the Pyramids. Tangents aside, my personal head canon is that these are simulated matches. I mean it would make sense too cause I doubt the Vanguard would allow Shaxx to let Guardians use Stasis on each other.

#1. The transmat option is still there. We might have future content missions that take us to those planets. We don't know. #2. Crucible utilizes the same mechanics on the planets as vex tech last I checked. Could be wrong, but the vex don't get told where to go and when to go. They just go if it's a directive. #3. It's actually possible Shaxx has localized transmat beacons that weren't damaged and away from darkness controlled areas. If that is the case then it will explain how we will be able to return later. Lore wise, scouts are still able to utilize WHATEVER means they can to try and get information. Whether that is a deep root scan of a planetary area or if the planet cannot be located? To utilize backdoor methods to try and get close to last known coordinates. #4. As a general rule: the Last City factions operate based on rules which are based on security protocols. We share a lot of intel with each other, but definitely not everything. It's politics to them to ensure we can keep some options open in case bad situations happens to anyone in particular. From the Consensus to a guardian going dredgen or dark.

9 RepliesI have a couple questions when it comes to this subject. Why did the darkness swallow the planets? They didn't do it to our knowledge during the collapse so why now? How did they do this? How did we know that this was going to happen? Aka evacuation.

Just Bungie being lazy. It's like the Cosmodrome...it's in a pre-Rise of Iron state with the wall completely rebuilt to its original state. Also if you go to the area where Ghost first rezzes you in the original game, the colony ship towers with the ships are all intact in the distance. You go to the area where the spider tank public event used to be, they are all down/destroyed. Just lack of attention to detail on Bungo's part with this expansion and in general they tend to ignore lore/timeline. It's like how Saladin treated us like a stranger, Variks doesn't act like he remembers us at all, and we worked extensively with both characters in the prior game. Kind of breaks immersion a bit.

1 ReplySome are moons, some are planets. Europa and Io are both moons of Jupiter. Only one of them disappeared. Titan is a moon of Saturn. Mars and Mercury, both planets. Mercury closer to Sun than Earth, Mars further from the Earth. The Darkness wasn't just a big cloud covering up a big chunk of the solar system like the season 11 event made it out to be, it's apparently very selective. The "disappearance" is a bit of reach, even for a sci-fi story. Bungie should have just "quarantined" those places instead.

I honestly think it's just inconsistency and Bungie just had to roll with it because we'd have no more maps?

I'll liken it to Drifter and Shaxx creating virtual reality scenarios to simulate combat in different settings, but that's with many artistic liberties

Because Bungie didn't care enough to add new Gambit/PvP maps, so they had to retain some of the old ones.

The Vanguard REALLY need to interogate Shaxx and The Drifter since they stull know how to get to the lost planets
