[BNG] PC FPS Issues Megathread - UPDATE June 22

Hey, community. We're currently investigating FPS issues on PC.
UPDATES
June 22, 2021 Last night, AMD released Radeon Software Adrenalin 21.6.1 that fixes some Radeon Graphics products that were experiencing lower than expected performance in Destiny 2. AMD users may want to change their Settings > Preferred Software Version to Recommended + Optional for future updates.

June 3, 2021 In our TWaB blog post, we acknowledged that we made some major engine changes with the launch of Beyond Light - while working from home. Due to the pandemic, we haven't had access to our PC compatibility lab to do in-depth testing. We've been making improvements with each release even though they aren't called out in patch notes, and we're working with our partners to help address these issues and are optimistic about the future.

January 29, 2021 We have looked over the data post 3.0.2 launch: -- High-end users saw big improvements: we're about halfway back to pre-Beyond Light perf. -- Mid-range systems didn't see much improvement. -- Low-end and laptops didn't see much improvement. We're continuing to investigate and look for solutions toward better performance.

January 19, 2021 We released Update 3.0.2 that optimized Lighting on PC GPUs to help increase performance. -- Many folks have mentioned turning off the Shader Cache in the NVIDIA Control Panel. • Every time I load into orbit my game will run smoothly and then drop to 1fps for like 3 seconds before shooting back up again. The issue started around 5 days ago and had been running completely smooth until then. I've tried everything can think of. Fiddling with video settings, reinstalled the game, did some clean up in the files. Have no idea what to do and why this started all of a sudden. intel(R) i7-8700k CPU RTX 2060 gaming z 6g MSI 32G of Ram

ok here's some test numbers empire hunt - gtx 1080 , 90-100% gpu utilization , 126 fps average , p1 80 fps empire hunt - amd 6000 , 40-70% gpu utilization , 150 fps average , p1 94 fps This is a 17-19% performance improvement but this amd gpu is twice as powerful as my old gtx 1080. It's great not to experience 40-60fps anymore but bungie can still improve performance a lot with these new powerful gpu's. edit: I forgot to mention amd was tested with new 21.6.1 drivers.

It kinda works, i get around 130fps in tangled shore with a 5800x cpu, Sapphire 6800xt and 32GB RAM. GPU utilization at like 60%. PVP is still unplayable. Massive stuttering while in a pvp lobby.

        • Well at least it's playable now. It's still certainly not tapping into the potential of my 6800xt. SEVEN MONTHS LATER. Yeesh. No excuse for something to go on that long.

For anyone having stutters in PvP, try disabling every possible overlay you could think of, Steam overlay/MSI AfterBurner/Xbox Game Bar/All AMD metrics/including Destiny 2 ingame FPS counter, then restart the game, this fixed the stutter issue for me completely.

          • YAAAYYYY Bungie and AMD! I get +100 fps on tangled shore now (4k, 6900XT / 5600X) and the average fps throughout the game is way way up. Thanks for finally getting this fix in! I appreciate you!

          • New AMD Drivers greatly improved performance! Seems to be back around pre-Beyond Light now, but at the same time it's operating around the levels my older RX Vega 64 was too, and this is now an RX 6900XT. Room for improvement but not NEARLY as headache inducing as before

          • Got it running on my 5950x & Red Devil 6900xt, getting 120 frames on everything. I played some pvp, & did some nightfalls for about 6 hours no stuttering on my end. Seems like this new driver update fixed the issues i was having.

            • 5900x/6900xt here with the new 21.6.1 drivers. Overall I’d say we went from “very disappointing” to “in need of some more optimization but good”. PvP is very solidly in the 160-210 fps range, usually hovering around 200. PvE as usual is a mixed bag, with some areas with generally great performance to spots and angles of below expected performance. Overrides are much improved but still not up to where I’d like them to be. The problem is usually linked to low GPU utilization as before. The improvement is night and day for me though, definitely recommend to try the update to anyone with AMD GPUs. To all the people that complain about very bad stuttering in PvP especially: I saw it as well but give it 2-3 more games for the caches to rebuild and then you’ll be good to go. In my case at least the stuttering disappeared completely after 4-5 matches. Hope this helps, very good progress but some work still needs to be done by Bungie on the optimization front.

              • Big Improvement, 5600x/6800, PVE saw the biggest change for me, classic tangled shore test saw over 140fps so much better. Cache rebuild is real but thats true every time the driver gets updated for me, usually takes a bit of play time then its very smooth.

              • 5700XT user here and massive improvement with the new driver. I'm running the game at 1080P with an AMD 3950X CPU. The old driver (21.5.1) on Tangled Shore Landing zone: 48 FPS Around the map: 48-70 FPS The new driver (21.6.1) on Tangled Shore Landing zone: 70 FPS Around the map: 66-95 FPS Used the built in Factory Reset option when the new driver was installed. Didn't tweak any settings in the Radeon software after installation and didn't change any graphic settings in D2 either. It's still not pre Beyond Light performance but it's getting there. I haven't tested any other activities at this time.

              • Unbelievable! After all Amd knight came with old code 20.4.2 in new driver and it works! Sorix on tangled shore 6800xt 80fps instead 40fps 2560x1080 100fov ultra settings, Tower 100fps against 60fps Etc… Gpu not working at max but I didn't believe it anymore! And damn it’s nearly finally cool !

              • 21.6.1 could it be bois??? Some Radeon Graphics products may experience lower than expected performance in Destiny 2™ when compared to previous Radeon Software versions. Test away lets see what we get?

                • i have an rx6800 and just downloaded the new AMD drivers that came out today 21.6.1 and there is an performance increase. Tower went from 60fps to 100fps and Tangled Shore went from 40fps to 100fps. Tangled Shore does have very minimal stutter. Gpu usage is still low sitting a little above 50% but better than before. The only downside is that these new drivers killed PVP. I get around 150 fps but stutters so bad, worse than the Tangled Shore before the fix. Pvp performance is still the same. Can't even hit 144fps on a control game.
