Hot Take: I like the story development about Saint-14 and Osiris

I'm pretty pleased with the development. I feel like it gives more depth to the character of Osiris and his attempts to save Saint through the infinite forest, sundial, etc. Although I know they won't actually make any changes in-game anytime soon (I wouldn't really expect them to, considering the already negative reception) I'm happy to see more representation in a game that I love. Of course, I'm pissed about them killing off Sagira without so much as a cutscene but the foretold future about Osiris and Saint makes me hopeful for their characters in the future if Bungie actually decides to expand on it at all and not sweep it under the rug because people don't like lgbtq characters.

  • TL,DR: Saint-14 and Osiris have a complex relationship that is only now being revealed, and that is okay and actually very good storytelling. thanK YOU!! Their dynamic has been like this from the start, and I am really excited to see where it goes from here. I understand that some people may find it hard to see that the relationship between Saint-14 and Osiris goes beyond what is simply shown in-game. And to those people, I would highly recommend reading/researching the works of Plato, Xenophon, and Plutarch (there are certainly more primary sources out there, but these were the authors mentioned here --> https://bit.ly/3pGcaPN ) as they go into the complex relationships between Greek warriors that ranged from platonic brothers-in-arms to the more romantic and intimate kind. I'm very impressed that this is being represented with two of the most legendary Guardians to date. I understand that some of the comments below discuss their relationship is like that of two brothers, and it very may well be. Or at least, that is how Saint-14 and Osiris have decided to describe it. The Speaker (the man who Saint literally calls 'Father') banished Osiris; the smart move in this situation would be to remove the intensity of the relationship (ie: Saint saying that he and Osiris became close during the Dark Ages, but not how close). Also... this takes place in a hypothetical post-apocalyptic version of the Solar System with contact to different alien cultures and y'all still are getting worked up about some characters' backstories being "too inclusive"? If it bothers you too much, then just... stop playing and take your negativity elsewhere. Representation matters and if the fleshed-out backstories and relationships of queer characters (Lord Shaxx, Oryx, Hawthorne, Devrim Kay and Marc, Ana Bray (pre-rez), Ana Bray (post-rez) and Carmin Dumuzi, Jolyon Till and Uldren Sov (I think), Mara Sov and Sjur Eido, Osiris and Saint-14, Athrys and Eramis (yes you read that right), Eriana-3 and Wei Ning, to name a few) are too much to handle, then please put down your controller or step away from your keyboard and contemplate the fact that some people may have never seen video game characters that are like them, feel like them, express themselves like them, love like them. It is how the player can connect with the game and its world, and it really does mean a great deal to those of us Destiny players who identify as part of the queer community.

    • Theres a point where it stops being about representation and starts being annoying pandering, like when they make nearly every side character and their dog gay

Not my idea of "good representation". Osiris and S14 have always been shown to have a brotherly bond. Suddenly cramming romance in there just comes off as awkward pandering.

      • Lol, "representation". People dont hate alphabet characters, people hate changing unnecessary things into alphabet people stuff for no reason. Why does it matter what Osiris likes to bang? You people turned yourselves into a PR marketing strategy. Yall idiots.

          • Just be warned that there was a similar topic the other night after the lore dropped that got ninja’d as I was reading the thread because it apparently ‘violated CoC’ even though I read the whole thread and didn’t see anything that looked like that. Most of the comments were similar to this thread... 🤷‍♂️ My biggest issue is that it didn’t feel organic at all (I would go as far to say that all those sections of the lore piece felt like not very good fanfic) and it came off as pandering which is disappointing because the writers are really good crafting big grandiose stories/history ie the sci-fi space opera stuff. All the lore up to this point led us to think that Osiris did all he did with the Sundial because he felt like he had let his noble friend Saint down somehow.... very brothers in arms vibes.

If they want representation that’s fine, but why use 2 characters that already have a brotherly relationship? That just makes things really weird and it just feels like pandering.

              • Yeah this development doesnt feel organic. I always saw them as brothers. Characters like Ana Bray felt organic and made sense. Hell, even Devrim Kay made more sense. I just feel like they shoehorned this in for no reason.

              • I've said this a million times If they're gay, that's cool I just wish Bungie didn't go so hard on the "brother" angle early on, only to switch to a potentially more romantic theme Like if the speaker is the dad and Osiris is Saints bro, it just feels icky

              • so we have two gay or lesbian couples in the game that has nothing to do with romance and shouldn't ever have anything to do with romance, infact, we have two lesbian or gay couples and no other couples in the entire game.. Just stop. It has nothing to do with the story of the game whatso ever. Next we will have a cross dressing female that is a man who wants to dress as a female. We just don't need sex to be part of every single thing in our lives.. honest.
