Detailed answers would be appreciated thank you
1. How old is Zavala and is he the founder of the last city?
2. Is Zavala the only titan vanguard or has there been others?
3. Same for Ikora and Cayde has there been other vanguards before them?
4. How does one become a vanguard and will a new hunter vanguard be appointed?

He didn’t found it. No. Zavala is the second Titan Vanguard. Saint-14 held it for a time but dropped the gig shortly before Osiris was exiled and Zavala was appointed Vanguard Commander. Yes. Osiris was Ikora’s predecessor and as for Cayde...well Andal Brask was before him and then the list of “before that” goes on and on. At least 10 hunter vanguards. Just wait for KS to comment on this post and he will probably give a list. Vanguard for Warlock and Titan seems to be appointed whereas Hunter is based on a Dare which is at the moment inconclusive in finding Cayde’s replacement
as of Season of the Hunt it seems The Crow might be out of the picture.
Edited by Grays_KS27: 11/19/2020 9:52:26 PMNo, Zavala did not even help found the Last City. The Iron Lords did that. The Awoken didn’t arrive in the solar system until after the Last City contained most of humanity’s population, meaning the Awoken that became Zavala hadn’t even died yet. Oh, and Zavala is probably well over 300 years old. We know the City had already developed districts more than 300 years ago, and Six Fronts seemingly happened before then, and Zavala was pretty young when Six Fronts happened. Hunter Vanguards are replaced through a Dare. A challenge/bet is made, usually by the current Hunter Vanguard, that decides who their replacement will be. There have been very few Titan and Warlock Vanguards (RIP Hunters), but so far they are mostly chosen by vote and recommendation from other Vanguards. There have been 2 Warlocks, at least 2 or 3 Titans, and at least 6 Hunters. Here’s the full story we have so far on all the Vanguards: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/254115192/0/0

1 Reply1. No, in his story trailer he’s shown arriving to the beginning of the Last City after others like Shaxx and the speaker. If you’re interested in Zavala, here’s the link to the trailer. 2. There’s been others, but none I can remember by name. Saint-14 was offered the spot, but got h•rny for killing Fallen so he did that instead. 3. There’s an entire lore thing about how Cayde became Hunter Vanguard. Read “The Man They Called Cayde” lore book, page “Flop”. Osiris was the Warlock vanguard before Ikora, until he was exiled for spreading conspiracy theories about chemicals in the water turning the Fallen gay. 4. I think there’s like a lore quiz that was occasionally held... wait you’re talking about in the game’s universe. In the lore no hunter wants the position so they’re no showing at the tower. Being “trapped” as the Hunter vanguard is considered shameful, as it means no more exploring, doing dumb things on sparrows, bunny hoping around in the crucible, re-enacting classic westerns, staying up all night drinking, terrorizing Fallen, and being a bunch of overgrown teenagers. In fact they are teenagers, because this situation can be described as, Mom (Zavala) wants them to grow up and take up more responsibility, and they want to party with their friends more. So far the method of going on top of a high building with a shiny handcannon attached to a fishing rod, while a few titans wait with a net, so we can find someone to do it, has been unsuccessful. There was one who almost did, but he just pawed at it before hissing and scampering away. You know, normal hunter behavior.

Edited by UnwiseGeoduck84: 11/17/2020 5:28:13 PMFor 3, yes, there have been other vanguards. I believe Osiris was once warlock vanguard, but I’m not sure if I remembered it correctly. There have definitely been other hunter vanguards before Cayde. As for becoming vanguard, I don’t know, but the hunter’s have something known as the vanguard dare, in which a dare or bet is formed, with the position of hunter vanguard at stake. Andal Brask’s and Cayde’s dare was whoever killed Taniks didn’t get to be vanguard. Cayde’s dare was whoever killed him is vanguard. By this logic, Uldren should probably be the current hunter vanguard, considering he killed Cayde, and is now a guardian.
