I know Bungie is going to make some changes because some things need to be tuned...but for the most part, this is fun.
I enjoy countering brainless playstyles that once dominated crucible.
Someone laning with Revoker or any sniper? Throw a stasis wall up and cross safely to quickly close the gap with the titan's new melee ability.
Hyper aggressive shotgunner and dodge-reliant hunter? Just freeze em. No longer a problem. Now they are forced to play my game instead of farming a free special weapon kill.

While the 2 points you make are true, the problem with stasis is how much it has slowed down the game and easily being able to shut down supers with one grenade or melee. It doesn't take skill or tactics to stop supers anymore. you just press a button and win. No you can't ape anymore, but you also can't make effective pushes because you just get frozen for trying to push an advantage. These things wouldn't be bad if there was counter-play to stasis, but there's not; you just have to hope the opponents abilities are on cooldown.
-
Yeah stasis is great until it’s all that will be used against you as well. Basically becomes who can freeze who first. Let it go.
-
To be fair its not really going anywhere
-
Kinda ironic how this post points out how busted stasis is. It counters everything according to what you said. It counters: Mobility and positioning Shotguns Snipers Agressive playstyles. So...what’s left? Use stasis or be dominated. Be passive or be frozen... don’t you see how stasis is now the “new” problem?
-
The fact that you don't know anything else out of that list kinda scares me
-
Edited by SemisolidButter: 11/13/2020 10:10:09 PMI was only tackling what you said as to not put words in your mouth. However, to indulge you, here’s the other playstyles: Team player (I.e. team shots and rez) Passive player 1: sniper Passive player 2: scouts and pulses Hand cannon monkies Shoulder charging Titan Hippity hoppity warlocks And many many more that would require a million words.
-
Well...there you go
-
So because you can’t counter a shotgun user, you think it’s balanced to just be able to stop them for playing the game and get a free kill? Yikes...
-
Edited by Dubufu: 11/13/2020 6:15:57 PM
Yikes...
Oof, that was a garbage reply. Let me break this down piece by piece...
So because you can’t counter a shotgun user...
I can. But due to the sheer popularity of shotguns, ammo economy, and small maps, it is factually impossible to counter every single encounter against a shotgun. Sometimes it comes down to chance, nothing more. Good players will tell you that as well.
...you think it’s balanced...
I never said that. I assume you have reading comprehension problems. I literally said that some things need to be tuned in the first sentence. PVP in Destiny has never been a balanced experience anyways. Never will be.
...to just be able to stop them for playing the game and get a free kill?
That can be said about anything. Special weapons stop you from moving freely or peeking corners. They not only restrict your capabilities, but can remove you from the game over and over again. Special weapons are free kills. Stasis counters special brainless special weapon playstyle and teamshooting. Being removed from the match by a special weapon is the same as being removed from the match via freezing. Also, I looked up your stats. Literally ALL of your top weapons are meta choices, so it's no surprise why you think stasis is strong. Maybe if you attempted to play differently, you would get some headway.
-
If there is a scenario where you can’t counter a shotgun, that means that the shotgun user has either outplayed you, or you put yourself in a position that didn’t allow you to make enough distance to kill them. I’m not talking about snipers right now. I agree that snipers can completely remove areas on the map and run the lobby. I’m talking about shotguns. Stasis renders shotgunning useless. And it’s more than just shotgunning. You can throw a coldsnap grenade at the ground at medium range and freeze someone, literally taking away their ability to play the game, with little aim and still required. Another problem is the warlock melee. Tracks, had a ridiculous amount of range, tracks, and instantly freezes you, and then if you someone manage to survive through being completely immobile for 5 seconds, breaking out of the freeze damages you. Being able to just wildly throw an ability in someone general direction and completely take away their ability to play the game is not balanced.
-
We already experienced suppressor grenades with shield titans. This stasis stuff levels the playing field amongst all 3 classes. So instead of throwing a suppressor nade and running up and shotgun sliding with felwinters or ambition, people gotta play differently. Once the patches come through and the fine tuning is done itll play differently.
-
That’s a terrible comparison. Suppressors just make it so you can’t double jump or sprint. You can still walk at normal speed and most importantly shoot. When you get frozen by a long range tracking melee or a hard tracking grenade, you can’t move at all, and there is no counter to stop you from getting frozen in the first place.
-
Bait the grenade and move out the way. That's all I've done in both campaign and pvp....works just fine of you're smart about it
-
So bait and move out of the way of a hard tracking grenade that moves faster than you? I don’t think that’s gonna work out for you too well
-
I feel like it wouldn't be so bad if the time to break free was much faster. That's the main issue I have. There's no reason we should be stuck that long, with the way destiny 2's PvP is. Now on the other hand I kinda understand what he means with shotguns. Because you could be engaged in a primary battle with one person and some guy with a shotgun can literally make his way thru the map in no time at all and shoot you in the back or in the side. You won't be able to disengage and adjust. Radar is taken away when you ADS and hip fire isn't something people do 100% of the time. Same with watching your radar at the exact same time you are in an gunfight. Now yes, if you mindlessly turn around a corner without checking radar or see that guy with his shotgun coming half a mile away and you die, then you got outplayed. It's just that the way this game was last season....you could, in many cases, almost not care about range or damage fall off, if you use any weapon (like a hand cannon) in conjunction with a quickdraw/opening shot shotgun.
-
If there is a scenario where you can’t counter a shotgun, that means that the shotgun user has either outplayed you
Not true at all. Some scenarios are a simple as running up and shooting or quick-swapping with quick access sling. No thought or effort to it, just being within range and securing the kill. Which might I add, in nearly every map, it is extremely easy to be in range. From that alone, you cannot expect to counter literally every shotgun encounter. That is not only unrealistic, but ignorant to the current meta. If they could be countered reliably, you wouldn't see shotguns in the top meta choices.
Stasis renders shotgunning useless
Good. Been an annoyance for a while.
And it’s more than just shotgunning. You can throw a coldsnap grenade at the ground at medium range and freeze someone, literally taking away their ability to play the game, with little aim and still required
Is this the tracking one? Yeah that's what needs to be tuned, same with the amount of health lost from getting out of a freeze.
Another problem is the warlock melee. Tracks, had a ridiculous amount of range, tracks, and instantly freezes you
That's fair. Never had that problem though. But I assume it's strong from words alone.
-
Don't you think it's a little irresponsible to think it's okay to render an entire weapon type useless when PvP already has such a small viability pool? (One frame type of pulse, one frame type of AR, Can't make a good faith opinion on hand cannons yet though both 120 and 140 seem good, short zoom snipers still dominating, and literally nothing else)
Stasis renders shotgunning useless
Good. Been an annoyance for a while.
-
Edited by Dubufu: 11/13/2020 11:50:20 PMBecause shotguns technically are not useless. It was just a gross exaggeration. I csn still succeed and gather multi-kills in the current sandbox, you just have to be smarter and more mindful of when enemies use their abilities. If you see a few ice-walls on the field or ability-related deaths on the feed. That's you're que to take advantage. In other words: You now have to have a functioning brain to shotgun ape. Also, the viability pool is what you make it to be. For example...I think sidearms and SMG's of all types are amazing, but they are not on the list you made.
-
You could say the opposite as well, couldn’t you?
-
No you couldn’t. You can’t counter the freeze. You can counter a shotgun
-
Counter the freeze play by not getting close with a shotgun?
-
It has literally nothing to do with getting close. Warlocks have a melee with almost infinite range that instantly freezes and has tracking. Coldsnap grenades just need to be thrown in your general direction to start hard tracking and freeze you
-
The tracking is minimal, trust me I'm a warlock. I've been able to miss plenty of melee strikes with the stasis ability, some of which the person wasn't all that far away and managed to dodge/jump away in time. Not saying stasis doesn't need some tuning but I've managed to counter it just fine by playing smart and not trying to ape with a shotgun. I really can tell most people that are whining are shotgunners because from mid-long range I haven't had a single problem with stasis users.
-
Fair enough. I haven’t stepped into crucible yet this season, and from the sounds of things, I’m likely not to anytime soon.
-
Countering a shotgun is up to chance or positioning. So is being hit by a freeze grenade buddy
