The destiny expereince has steadily lost its magic for me over the years, and ive rage quit here and there for a few months to a year when stuff reaally didnt jive with me. Ive been in the mix since D1 First Look Alpha, and used to be a big fan. Now, even the good stuff this game has to offer just ring hollow to me.
I thought Beyond Light was gonna be the one to reignite the fire, but it went the total other route. Ive never thought Bungie were stellar storytellers, but the narrative in BL is about as flat and uninteresting as could be, ending with a “That was the final boss!??” moment. Even for campaign bosses this was just awful.
Im mainly a crucible guy but i do the PVE stuff for the required power grind for trials. The crucible is an absolute schoolbus fire now. Nobody playtested stasis in pvp? Its almost unplayable. Before BL my only real complaint about PVP was my skill demographic gets the screw job in matchmaking. 8 games out of 10 I am the lead scorer on the losing team. Thats not an exaggeration. Team composition algorithm is complete garbage and punishes good players(im good, not great last seasons kda emblem was 2.93). That issue is still there, but now pile on a bunch of ice crap everywhere and not being able to move half the time.
At least theres tons of loot. Oh but there isnt. Well thats awsum.
On the technical side, this is the buggiest the game has ever been, even beyond derver issues which bungie refuses to fix because usually it only crops up when anexpansion drops and they just weather the storm and hope people forget about until the next drop.
The other MAJOR issue before BL was prgression. I never hit 1060 las season, I needed arms and 10 pinnacle drops in a row were energy weapons, 7 of which were last hopes. You might say that pinnacle level doesnt matter. It matters if i say it matters to me in my game. I dont think i can stick around til the pinnacle level this time, especially since my main reason for playing (crucible) isnt a lick of fun now.
All of this is exascerbted for me when I see the pr people like cozmo and dmg acting like the community is just foaming at the mouth and will eat up anything bunger craps out. The language they use in the twabs and on twitter acting like this crap is the end all/be all makes me sick. I know its there job to hype, but thats kinda my point.
I know theres a lot of people in the trenches at bungie that work hard. My gripes are mainly with the decision makers and pr.
Oh well, i paid for it like a dummy. Ill prob stick around and run a couple more things that arent crucible and try to get something out of it. All of my original clan is gone, I might as well split too. Bring on cyberpunk!

17 RepliesWell, me being a pretty mediocre player, I can see that the solo game is deader then it ever was. I started the campaign, and got along not too bad. A few deaths. But note the deaths didn't reset me back to the freaking start! I dunno what the skill level would be to kill Phylakes in the campaign, but from 1 to 100, I'd guess 80 or more. Die, and you're back to the very start, with less ammunition each time. Eventually, two or three deaths and you have no hope, other than to restart the whole thing again, from the very start. Do it with friends, Bungie says. So, I ask my friends to carry me through the campaign. That's not what I consider to be a good game plan. Right now, I'm regretting the impulse to buy it. It seems to me that to play the game you have to be really good at it at the start. Then, to play further, you have to be really good to do the quests etc, to "level up." My guess is the decline in players for several million to a couple of million is due to Bungies decision to make Destiny an elite game. Not an elite? Well, just run endless patrols a easy strikes. Anyway, it all comes down to me. Play or not. My regret is I didn't try it before buying it.

1 ReplyI'm sorry, but you're 100% wrong, I mean now we have a black background during the start of the game, and it only take bungie 2 years to do it.

6 RepliesMy hot take on Beyond Light in a nutshell: - All three classes frost supers and abilities look and sound awful. They either have been rushed or not properly play tested. The sound effects also sound like they were recorded inside someone's bathroom at the lowest sample quality possible. - All three classes frost supers do not 'feel' tight or play in a way that is remotely fun - the Titan's super is like trying to run at someone with a saucepan over your head, the hunter animations are just .... void animations with frost effects, and the Warlock looks and feels like a giant pile of icy crap. - Lack of unique world events. I was very excited on Europa, a new Vex world event on a new planet, in a new game? Oh never mind is the same crappy Vex event that has been in the game since D2 LAUNCHED. - Most of all, who in their right mind when designing the frost specs thought that making us mash a key on the keyboard (or controller) is a FUN way to implement new mechanics into the game ? This was the cherry on top, NOPE i am not playing a quicktime interactive to break free of crowd control effects every 2 seconds holy cow this is setting back the franchise 10 years alone in terms of innovation. Thanks D2 you've been fun but time for something new and fresh - this feels like a new and hastily rushed season pass, not a 99 dollar (australian) 'full expansion' or game that we paid for.

Edited by Barachim: 11/13/2020 12:19:46 PMI'm such a damn glutton for punishment. Time and time again I've left the game, only to return, find some level of enjoyment, and then have that enjoyment stomped into the ground, because the devs had to go through with another one of their boneheaded ideas. I just had an excruciating time in a strike that I ran a hundred times, because suddenly my gear is too low level to stand a chance without getting absolutely obliterated every 20 seconds. I'm so glad I didn't actually pre-order the expansion. I just deleted the game again and will probably be back in yet another year, once there's enough content worth playing. Or maybe I'll leave for good, since it's obviously clear that leaving "big, bad Activision", didn't improve Bungie's management in the slightest. If anything it got worse.
-
3 RepliesSame boat. Been playing since D1 Beta, preordered every special edition and content and grinded and played 99% of what the game had to offer, but the last year turned into a slog and the hamster wheel was just getting too boring and the return too small. So I decided to take a wait and see approach for this DLC for the first time. Sounds like the grind and the reward both got worse.

...cozmo and dmg acting like the community is just foaming at the mouth and will eat up anything bunger craps out.
Well, they pretty much do. Bungie can do whatever they want, and the players will still buy it. What's their incentive to improve the game?

16 RepliesIsn't that every piece of content that this company produces? All of you got scammed by flashy trailers and empty promises, folks. Bungie has been lying to you from the beginning yet you fools stick around to get another dose of digitilized heroine. Wake up!

UPDATE: As i said, ive continued to run a few things in the game , mainly because it kills me to pay 50 dollars for something and just throw it away. Maybe its because im masochistic and I like twisting controllers in half haha. a few points from my time with BL - needed anything but power weapon for my hunter to raise level, all three pinnacles from gambit, strikes, and crucible(ugh), and my next prime engram......were power weapons. forget twisting my controller in half, I almost punted my ps4 off the planet - tried to slog through a pvp match with titan, spawned into ice 3 times in a row, dead. last two were by the same warlock floatin around the map in super. not another teammate in sight. i have new forehead veins! - ran 4 1220 nitefalls in a row, 1 enhancement core reward each time. supersweet! - back to crucible, in an effort to just enure the suckiness of pvp to get adored, ive seen some crazy buginess ive never seen before in crucible. im guessing its due to ice affecting the physical landscape, but at one point i was ads on midtown, as i drop my scope, with no enemies around and one teammate i skyrocket horizontally to my right off the map and die. admittedly by thatt time, this stuff was more funny than rage inducing, because its all become a meme. lag is also crazy now, as is some netcode stuff? one match, 4 people got kicked from other team, then 3 from mine, then the game just ended with me getting rewards and winning. Most of the responses to this thread have been in agreement with my views., and I appreciate the comments. A small minority, have defended Bunige, and thats fine. Its not like I want to hate the game, or want Bungie to suck. Im glad some people are having a good time with the game. Some have made the point that this was made during quarantine. To me this is irrelevant. Development shouldnt be affected that much considering the only difference is the computer work being done wasnt in a cubicle pool, but in the devs own homes. I can appreciate that zoom meetings arent as efficient as in person meetings, but cmon. Last thing, as I said I dont want to hate the game. The core gunplay still feels great and is the only thing making it bearable to go thru some of the junk. I used to be a huge fan, which is why im so grumpy now. Having a game you loved slowly turned in to something so frustrating, sucks. Honestly though, that anger is turning into indifference.

3 RepliesEdited by ArmyKnight75: 11/12/2020 2:36:25 PMBungie is correct in their thinking though... You guys will purchase anything and everything that they release no matter how they have treated the community in the past. I was one of them, even though I was skeptical I still held out hope. Bungie has a significant history now of releasing less and less quality content and charging the same or more for the lackluster content. They don’t even attempt to exceed expectations anymore because they don’t have to, the community doesn’t care anyway. You guys purchase the content regardless and expect the the previous practices by Bungie will change, but they won’t. Why attempt to exceed expectations when the community accepts mediocrity...? Until the community stops rewarding Bungie for mediocrity, nothing will change. You will continue to receive minimal content. Why produce content that is exceptional when the community is satisfied with less? I will no longer accept or reward mediocrity. I’m not saying that I won’t eventually get the content when it hits half price, but I refuse to pay full price and reward Bungie for half-assed content.

The DLC as a whole is fine. I’m a little bit worried about stasis and the irrelevance of light subclasses (despite the fact that the hunter super is ABSOLUTE DOGSHIT, the ability to freeze makes up for it). The only issue I really have is the story. I was kind of hoping for something on the level of TTK or Forsaken, but no. Worst storyline in all of destiny imo. Dialogue is cringe and they absolutely scuffed the tone of the dlc, 2/10 not enough “we are so -blam!-ed” moments and Eramis is a bad villain who could have been so good. The strike mission shows what could have been. 0/10 fallen lady wasn’t as good as she could have been. Also boring, generic story missions. Give me more stuff like sneaking through a throne world and getting chased by an angry ogre! I love Europa though and the new content as a whole is fun. And we don’t even have everything for this season yet.
-
3 RepliesIt’s fun to play. More content coming with Uldren, Raid, exotic quests. I mean. The magic of Destiny is kind of fading which I agree. Perhaps it’s not the game and maybe it’s just you that feels to try other things.
-
Beat Queen in what 4 missions? And out of the 4, 3 of them were the same location.

I prefer to always keep my expectations low as I can I don't even play this game as often as I used to because it not my main game anymore. Here's my take. I really like Beyond Light. I thought Shadowkeep was average. (Didn't buy it at full price. I didn't care tbh and FFXIV Shadowbringers took my time with Raids and so on) There is a lot we learn here about The Exo Stranger. The Fallen. Specially The Fallen. I liked Eramis as a villain. I wished they made the campaign a bit longer though to make her more likeable too At least the Post campaign dialogue are cool with Exo and I enjoy it. I won't say its my final impressions because the raid is not out yet. Also Europa is gorgeous. I love Ice stuff so I might be a it biased So Far So Good. Thats my take

4 RepliesYou can really tell how beneficial it was for them to delay BL’s release so they could make some more changes/tweaks; it’s a completely finished product. Doesn’t feel like it was rushed or like it’s incomplete at all. Very solid product, Bungie.

4 RepliesI like the update.

1 ReplyYesterday the Stasis activation took so long in my hunt for that Fallen with the old lady hat that I went from full health to dead before it even activated. That animation is really, really terrible.

13 RepliesI said from the reveal that this is going to be the same as shadowkeep yet no one believed me no content

7 RepliesDo you read the lore that comes out? If not then that’s a L for you. I actually don’t understand how people play this game without reading the lore. The story is so freaking amazing. And it seems endless. If you started trying to read today it would take you months to sift through everything. And the campaign might not even be over yet.... Also I think being a PvP main makes things more difficult, too.
