Is this really your best attempt at telling a compelling story?

You guys have no idea how to balance characters at all. Drifter and Eris had no reason to be there. We weren't a focal point of the story at all. Variks was cool. All of your characters have weak motivations. Eramis's motivations made sense but we never got to see anything. A huge chunk of the campaign is basically just narration. "Here's what happened to the Fallen" "Here's why Eramis is bad". Don't tell me, show me! Anyways, I'm not surprised. Destiny has never told a compelling story. This campaign was not bad mission-wise but the story was pretty bad.

    • I agree story wasnt very good. Drifter and Eris were useless. Was kinda hoping to see them in missions at least.

Story was ok in my opinion. But the lore is really good. Some of it made me laugh out loud. Also Banshee-44 is Clovis Bray. I kid you not read some of the lore on Ishtar. We find out that Clovis had to be reset 43 times during his fight with the vex and by the end of it he said to wipe his memory and his exo name was Banshee soooooooooo. Banshee-44 is Clovis Bray

Its just so predictable its like a childrens picture book. Bad guy is introduced but you know from the start that after 2 hours you will beat the bad guy, in the story, because the good guys always prevail. The light always prevails (even when the light is literally taken away from us, more on that next paragraph). Really hard to develop a threatening antagonist when this has been the reoccuring theme. Dominus ghaul, taker of light, conqueror of worlds... beaten by one guardian, with ease, after a 4 hour campaign. Like what? What is the point of even having a campaign at that point? The writing really makes you question if anyone is even trying? This is why I think the Taken King campaign was so good. Oryx arrived because you killed his son 2 dlcs ago. You went on a campaign to beat him, and you did, but outside of his throne world. To REALLY beat him you had to do the raid. It all made sense. It was coherent. It was logical. Oryx was intimidating from the beginning to the end when it took 6 people and one of the most robust raids to date to take him down.

      • • Repetitive gameplay (literally JUST shooting, no variation at all) • Overhyped “characters” exist only to be vendors (Drifter and Eris stand there like they always do and so did the Stranger and Variks) • We use Stasis the same way for four missions (hold square and use Stasis then don’t, repeat four times until the end of the campaign) • Boring bosses (enlarged version of fallen with a few stasis power) • Boring story (beat the bad guy who’s evil just because) Speaks volumes about the “story” as a whole when most of the enemies have a more just cause than any of the good guys. Terrible campaign. Those that like the campaigns simply have low standards. Games can have great stories. Destiny does. Bungie don’t know how to tell it.

        • Always has been. The story's in the lore. Best read out-of-game. Actually the strongest aspect of the game(s) that way. Always has been.

        • the in game story is always horrid, bit the written lore is fairly intricate and interesting to read. they'd be better off writing a sci-fi series

        • We need the lore entry writers to take over the story writing.

          • The lore is in the tabs. Also the post campaign stories tell a good story. Bear in mind we are day three of the dlc. There's gonna be more story.

          • Honestly I'm surprised you guys aren't praising it. Destiny dlc stories get praised for being coherent. None have actually been good.

Dude this game is basically Clovis Bray's kids having daddy issues and taking it out in Zavala/the Vanguard and convincing us to betray them because TV shows like game of thrones made being a bad guy cool. It is really irritating.

                • Eh, the Story Mode of Destiny is never the most compelling part. You have to read the Lore to be intrigued, and Honestly, this is the Best Lore I have read in Destiny. Its up there with Forsaken and Taken King in terms of Lore, I would argue even Better.

The campaign needed to be longer and the barons/lieutenants needed more character development. We basically killed them in the sane mission that they interacted with us (except the priestess, she died in the next mission...woohoo) Also what happened to the one baron Erimis sent to “get the body”. I have no idea where they went or what this body thing is about. Not to mention that we need more scene with the villain. Eremis was talking to us like we’ve been her enemy/rival for a while now when in reality she just met us. Ghaul had the intro scene but basically never talk to us again (talked at us, I guess). I wish we had more scenes to actually build up the villains. Eremis has potential but like almost every other villain she fell short. The lore is amazing, I just wish the in game story was even 10% as good.

                  • When I saw Eris and the Drifter on Europa in all the trailers, I assumed they would at least have more screen time than one short cutscene of them fighting, and HAVE SOME DAMN LINES! And then while doing the exotic heavy weapon quest, I'm told to visit the Drifter in the tower. But I literally just saw him on Europa? Is he in two places at once? And why does Eris not say anything throughout the entire campaign? You usually can't get her to shut up, and now she's a mute? None of it makes sense.

                      • I thought it rocked, Driter Eris and Stranger make this Trio and new Dark Vanguard the ones that Valla won't sanction but need to be done. Variks is nice to have him return again. Eramis actually made me sympathize and understand their angle. After all the Traveller chose them first, their whole narrative how the traveller just bounced out and came to us could happen and makes it easier for you to seek out the darkness. They did show us thru that very artsy cinematics and also the very crispy ones

                      • Because they assumed you warched the trailers and played last season. Technically it was suppose to start the day after the final contact mission where the darkness tells us "hidden power awaits you on Europa". I was confused as to why we were just already there till I got reminded about that. Im sure its in the lore as to why the team up happens vetween ers, drifter, and the exo stranger but they all served the queen (i dunno about drifter) so its safe to assume thats the connection. also, its the third day of the dlc. Give it time to flesh out like forsaken had to.

                      • Drifter and Eris were two major characters and both of them didn’t over glorify the light like how other guardians and the ppl of the city did. Also both of them had lost their light and have been loving without it for some time. They already showed you that eramis was bad cus she opened the glassway to (kill? Doesn’t make much sense tbh) the gaurdians.
