Beyond Light forced story!

Bungie what about the mission that the player chose not to trust the Drifter? Why the players are forced to follow what the Driter is saing in the Beyond the Light? If I do not want to use Stasis with one character that do not truster the Drifter? We are forced to use the Darkness now that the Traveller is healing/healed? That event brought hope (in the point of view of the story) as the zavala said in the intro for all guardians that want to remaing faithfull to the Light. I do not want to follow the drifter with my character that chose not to trust him. We need choices in the story Bungie.

  • I got some Ghost dialogue after I completed the campaign where he says,
”All those Guardians wielding Stasis. I know it’s what needs to happen, but.... I’m glad you prefer the Light.”
So we might still have kind of a choice here.

    • Stasis is basically up to the user, it's similar to the force in Star Wars, good and evil can use it, it just depends on how much self control they have. Some of the new lore books demonstrate this as well. I kind of agree a bit though, it would have been cool if we had a path where we could refuse to use it and just get a power boost or subclass upgrade, but this is Bungie and I don't think they wanted to develop upgrades for the 3-main subclasses, easier for them to just make one new subclass and force everyone to use it. If this was a quality dev that cared about narrative we'd have branching story options.

      • We use Stasis because we needed to counter and understand our enemies. Stasis isn’t evil in and of itself. Like the Stranger says, it’s a tool that can be used and right now, we really need it. Using stasis is not serving the darkness. Weapons do not commit the crime, it is the person wielding them that makes the decisions they do. Eramis got corrupted because of her anger and hatred. For us it’s different, characters have all stated we wield without the corruption others take on. Not using all the tools available would be foolish. Trust me I don’t wanna use it either just to spit the darkness, but desperate times come with desperate measures.

          • I agree that it was totally weird story-wise to have this big victorious moment for the light where the Traveler heals, only for everyone to immediately be like, "oh well, the light's still inadequate. Let's get darkness". Still though, for what it's worth, you aren't really siding with the Drifter by getting Stasis, more you're doing it on the Stranger's perogative.

Bungie: We don't want to do linear storylines like in Halo Me: Okay but there are no choices throughout the story, we just do the same stuff. Bungie: Yeah but you can choose which order you do the missions from Point A to B. Me: looks at H3 ODST, Looks back at Bungie [MotherF**kerly]. Halo did that, and honestly not all that many people liked it in comparison to the "Linear" style of story telling. See cause i- it's cohesive, no broken immersion. Just story till there ain't no more

^^^ THIS is one of the reasons I chose not to preorder Beyond Light. Knowing Bungie's storytelling style after two years in D2, I figured that they would force our characters down the Darkness path, especially after seeing the ominous dead ghost picture on Bungie's Twitter. I personally hate playing evil characters. I prefer to play either good or neutral characters like in the Forsaken DLC. I also prefer to decide how to play my endgame. Back in Forsaken, our characters were teetering between Justice and Revenge after Cayde's death. Justice is obviously good and heroic while revenge is evil. The story asked us to decide for ourselves which moral path our characters were on. I especially loved how Uldren's death was presented in the game: Did the Guardian shoot Uldren or did Petra pull the trigger? I was hoping that Beyond Light would take after Forsaken in presenting the story's moral dilemma. To me, the whole choice between Drifter and the Vanguard back in Season 6 was more like a survey to see what kind of DLC we wanted. I came from another MMO that did the same thing: They used the player "choices" to decide what kind of future DLC would be added to the game. In my case, I sided with Drifter because there was obvious corruption in the Vanguard. I was also hoping to see a very awesome character storyline develop between Drifter and the Young Wolf. I was excited for Beyond Light initially because of Drifter's presence. But after hearing the Pyramid's and the Exo Stranger's monologue, I knew that this DLC is Bungie's way to force our characters into joining the Darkness. I refuse to go in that direction. I love Drifter, and I was hoping that the Young Wolf was going to be an anchor to keep the guy from permanently drifting off into the Darkness. Bungie devs did state that they wanted Destiny to become like Star Wars, but they need to remember that Star Wars' appeal is the emotional and moral fight between Light and Dark. I'm just not feeling that familiar tug-of-war fight at all in the current Destiny storyline. The current storyline is still too much like Activision's Call of Duty. A while back, when the devs introduced the idea between Light Guardians and Dark Guardians, I thought it would be presented as an Alliance vs. Horde storyline. I guess I was hoping for too much. The worse part is knowing that Beyond Light is required in order to keep up with the PvP and Gambit gear treadmill. The main thing that keeps me in Destiny 2 is Gambit (I love a good boss burn contest) I wish there was a way around this.

            • If you noticed, all of the bosses get a stasis shield near the end that you need to use Stasis to break. So in the story, you either use it or Eramis wins.

            • Here’s your choices 1. Play Beyond Light, get darkness powers and survive 2. Don’t play Beyond Light and perish

            • They clarified this pretty neatly actually. Our light is tempered and born stronger because of our connection to the dark. Likewise, our dark nature is made stronger because of our connection to the Light. Simple fact is, we have two forces constantly trying to one up which is stronger. I for one do not like my behemoth titan super tree (love my hunter one though) and will be remaining a Siegebreaker under the Firebreaker Order. One of the last of my line same as any other Titan who calls themselves it. But will I use the darkness to make that stronger? Absolutely.

            • Because that mission has nothing to do with using Stasis. Some Guardians are going to start a conflict. Either purists not liking Guardians using Darkness or Darkness users going to far. So that can’t happened until down the road. Story wise, we are always meant to use Darkness. There is no choice.
