I'm getting my wisdom teeth pulled tomorrow

Kinda nervous, any tips? Or what it was like? They say I'm probably going to be recovering for a week

  • It depends. The tricky one for the procedure was a wisdom tooth that had some cover below another tooth. To be honest I really don't know why people act weird after anesthesia. I remember everything after I woke up and really didn't act out or say anything, I knew where I was. After the procedure they'll give you a prescription for pain killers. For me they gave me hydrocoden and ibuprofen. The trick was you switch them everytime so you don't take 1 back to back. You'll also need a lot a gauze pads to put in your mouth and apply pressure on the wounds. The goal is to form a clot to stop the bleed. Bleeding will last for 2-3 days. You'll wake up with what looks like a lot of blood in your mouth but its mostly spit that is just bloodied. The pain took me a little over a week. And it will feel like half you jaw is missing. But you'll be fine.

    • Owch... I remember the dentist having trouble trying to pull mine out. Even under the anaesthetic you could still feel the tug'o'war between man and tooth. The dentist ended up having to put his knee into my chest just to get leverage, to help yank it out. Left my breasts bruised for a week. (ー_ーゞ

        • You will be tripping a ton trying to get out of the office and it does take about 5-6 days to recover (depends if surgeon did good job, and if you follow instructions). It’s not that bad, but it was not a fun experience.

        • Pudding/apple sauce/Yogurt/soft ice cream time for as long as you can persuade people it’s the only thing you can eat. Still be sure to brush your teeth daily, and pick any gunk out of your newfound gummy flaps should you eat anything more solid than applesauce.

Umm... it depends. If your wisdom teeth were pretty straight and not impacted, it won't be that bad. I had teeth like that and I did not need anesthesia or anything of the sort afterwards. My face did not swell much either. If your teeth are going to be pretty hard to take out, expect it to be worse in terms of pain and swelling. And in recovery time. Also, you will be very drowsy afterwards. And avoid using your teeth for a couple days.

        • Its not as bad as it actually seems. Sure it will hurt for a while, and you will only be able to eat soft foods, but you will get better. Good foods to eat are ice cream, apple sauce, and Popsicles. When I got my wisdom teeth pulled, i also had 2 extra teeth pulled. These teeth were right underneath my tongue (they were called supernumerical or something like that). So not only did I have 4 stitches where they normally pull them out, but I also had 6 stitches underneath my tongue. This made it really painful to try and swallow something. Best of luck to you. I hope you get better quickly

        • It ain’t that bad. Hope you like the taste of blood for the first day though, and your jaw will be sore too, but it isn’t that bad

        • You poor child. I had it done under general, so the removal process was easy enough. If they're not impacted, you'll be miserable for awhile, but as long as you follow the doctor's instructions you should heal quick. Impacted ones will be a tougher heal. I had one, and it got infected, so I had to go back for additional treatment. But it wasn't horrible, just unpleasant for a long time. The other three healed all right by themselves. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Good luck. 😊

          • If you randomly spit out a mouthful of blood don’t panic. Also keep yourself elevated n ice ice ice to keep the swelling down. It’ll really help the healing process. Also enjoy your last solid meal.

Might as well be brutally honest, it's gonna hurt. Real, real bad. Regardless, I send my prayers.

                • General anesthesia really isn't necessary for wisdom tooth removal. Local anesthesia get's the job done well enough. I've heard one too many horror stories involving ga and dental operations, so it's a no from me unless absolutely necessary and as I said, for wisdom tooth removal, it's not.

                  • Take a pic afterwards, puffy face reveal. Have the "rents" video you while you come down off the chatter gas. Eat lots of garlic bread right before and don't brush your teeth.

                    • Sucker. My mouth is so big I can keep my wisdom teeth. It also gives a new humorous shine to, “me and my big mouth...[insert whatever I said stupidly here.] As far as real advice goes, I’ve seen most people recovering from that operation popping an Advil once a day to keep the pain down. • Getting teeth pulled will hurt, and not just during the surgery (unless your put on anesthesia) it will affect you afterwards to. Your mouth will hurt for a good week. But afterwards your teeth should I’d just and start recovering.

MCRD Sandiego has my left side wisdom teeth. There was nothing wrong with them, the military just likes to pull teeth. If I were back home with nothing to do it probably would have been terrible. But you are so busy there many recruits had broken toes and such but didn’t realize because of how occupied they were.
