Hello Guardians,
I haven't seen this question addressed anywhere. Playing D2 on PC is a dramatically different experience because you can max the FOV and, especially in Crucible, that means you can have an adequate amount of environmental control because everything's opened up, you can see so much more of what's around you.
On PS4, with the FOV being so tight and restrictive, I find Crucible pretty frustrating. It almost forces you into an extremely aggressive playstyle because moving slowly means quickly dying. But spawning mechanics and funky map design becomes another issue.
D2 on PS5 is great if only because load times will be nearly eliminated and that's really huge. That alone pretty much sells me. But if the FOV hasn't been optimized (or even slightly increased) or if there aren't FOV choices in the settings (ie. 85, 95, 105 for example) I think that's very unfortunate. Even if in settings you just have two FOV choices, "normal" and "expanded" view, with expanded increasing the FOV by 10. That's fine. Just something.
tldr,
QUESTION: Anyone hear anything about D2, PS5 and FOV? Maybe the Bungie Forum moderators know something?
Thanks.
EDIT: IT'S HAPPENING ON DECEMBER 8TH. FOV SLIDER COMING TO NEXT-GEN CONSOLES!!!!! https://www.bungie.net/en/Explore/Detail/News/49650

Honestly this need to happen hell if they can manage to get a FOV slider on the ps4 version too that would be great.
-
Tons of people have asked. Bungie hasn’t said anything on it. I wouldn’t get your hopes up.
-
most likely won't since they want us to be able to play between ps4-ps5 and xb1-xb1sx. Would potentially lead to too much of a disadvantage for PvP. Yes i know framerate is higher on the pros and S's but FOV opens up your view and would lead to drastically different playstyles. Probably won't get it until the do full crossplay and at that point i'd imagine ps4 and xb1 will be left behind similarly to how they eventually left ps3 and xb360's behind during D1's life cycle.

There's no official word on FoV for PS5. It could go either way. With D2 PS5 being a port of the PS4 version, and I'm sure Bungie wants to hit 4k 60, I think the FoV will still be static. What I think should happen is, Bungie should allow us to change the FoV but like The Outer Worlds did, put a warning that anything above X (90 in TOWs case) will cause performance issues. Leave it up to the player. I'm going to stick with my PC though. 1080p with maxed settings at 120fps still looks and plays better than 4k 60 on a console at the low setting the devs have to use to get 60fps anyway. At least to me.

I too would like to know this. It makes no sense if PC already had it. Just implement it on next gen.

3 RepliesI feel as if your forcing this question strictly towards the PS5 as if the Series X doesn’t have the same dilemma. That being said, this question applies to the Series X as well.
-
5 RepliesDestiny on console is pretty dead
-
8 RepliesWhen you get a PS5... please dont tarnish it by installing D2 on it.
-
9 RepliesEvery time the question comes up the answer from Bungie has been the same. Silence
-
2 RepliesTbf, D2 should've had a slider from the beginning. Don't hold your breath for it now either, chances are it won't be a thing.
-
4 RepliesIf there is no fov setting did we even get a next gen version?
-
Hate to say it but they probably will not. My reasoning? I played the stadia version of destiny and even though it is ran on extremely powerful machines at Google hq there was still no graphics options. It did look really nice in 100+ FPS though

11 RepliesI chuckle at these fov posts. How many decades have we been turning to look around and you people act like it’s torture all of a sudden. Cracks me up! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
-
5 RepliesHow do ppl even play on max FOV? Makes me motion sick
-
I'd settle for a different slider for ADS and turn sensitivity.
-
1 ReplyXbox has a fov settings?
-
I'm personally thinking it's going to be a no at launch at least. Mainly because of crossplay with legacy consoles (ps4 and xbone). Lucky if we get the slider a year from now when a decent amount of players have transitioned.
-
Their Flintstonian game engine probably can't handle it on console.

I think they will increase FOV to 90 because they said 4K60fps and with 105 fov t might be struggling. Btw those gameplay footage you have seen that had tons of enemies on screen? It’s probably meant for ps5 and series x. That many enemies on screen would burn the ps4.

Cozmo: We here at Bungie know that many of our next-gen console players would like an FOV slider, so that’s why we changed and locked the FOV On Xbox Series X and PS5 to the max. (Wouldn’t even surprise me if I’m right and if I am right, someone better Venmo me 5 bucks.)
-
There’s no definitive answer yet. D2 isn’t optimized for next gen until the update for beyond light releases so any of the youtubers w/ a preview of the series x won’t even be able to tell. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what info bungie gives us as we get closer to beyond light and the ps5/series x releases. Fingers crossed though

1 ReplyWow you really have no idea what you’re talking about
-
4 RepliesNot sure if they've confirmed this or not but I bwonder if this game is cross gen where you can be on ps5 and play against people on ps4. Would having 60fps on Ps5 affect pvp if ps4 still runs at 30fps? Essential wouldn't that make players on ps5 have an advantage over them since the game is running faster and even more so if the give ps5 fov sliders?
-
5 RepliesI feel like this is going to go a few ways: They don’t do anything until about a year from launch to let more players get the new consoles, then add FOV slider. They just don’t do it at all. They increase the FOV by a fixed amount, no choice.

According to Cozmo They will be discussing next gen consoles with the next few weeks
