Learning the lore

I would like to get more into the lore aspect of the game. Are there any clans that concentrate on just lore?

Next season, they’re making the in-game lore books available to read without having to unlock them. So you won’t have to rely on external sources like Ishtar Collective to read the lore. However, for D1 lore, you’ll have to use Ishtar Collective if you want to read it for yourself. MyNameIsByf and MyelinGames are the two biggest lore channels on YouTube. I prefer Myelin, but you can’t go wrong with either. Byf made this video last year for new players to catch up on all the major events in the lore up until Shadowkeep: https://youtu.be/9mbDXvDNqTU He’s done a few of these “Complete timeline up to this point” videos right before a major expansion releases, so I won’t at all be surprised if he releases another one soon before Beyond Light comes out. But you can go on either of their channels and just watch anything and everything they’ve made between 2014 and now. I mostly just listen to YT videos because it’s easier and they cover all the important topics. Plus, much of Destiny’s lore is intentionally ambiguous, or even straight up written in codes and shit lol. So I wouldn’t understand half of it without someone explaining it to me.

        • There are reddit subs that are super deep into the lore. I'd start there.
I would like to get more into the lore aspect of the game. Are there any clans that concentrate on just lore?
Clans ? I’ve got no idea. But I can recommend people, sources and ways to get into the lore. Thing I (and many others) always recommend is to read the lore for yourself. The website IshtarCollective has a comprehensive collection of all the lore entries, grimoire cards, mission transcripts (with video versions of the missions), items and their flavour texts. Personal preference, but a website I heavily recommend avoiding is Destinypedia or the destinywiki as both are written subjectively and more importantly very inaccurate for the lore and not too up to date. Ishtar Collective is defo your best bet for reading all aspects of the lore, but I’d also advice to read stuff in game as well. Speaking of in game, reading the lore isn’t necessarily the only option. Observe the in game world. Tiny details can be seen all throughout the game and they are by far some of the very interesting pieces. If forum and theory crafting is more your interest, obviously here is a good place to go as well as r/destinylore. I can’t speak much for the reddit page, but here I’d recommend keeping an eye on users like ArchivalMind, KellofRain, SuperSkyBro, IceApfel, myself and some others. We tend to make posts randomly theory crafting or giving deep dives into the lore of particular topics within destiny’s universe. I also recommend looking at smaller posts people do because they can open up big discussions into the lore as a whole and it’s honestly a fascinating thing (if you’re really into the lore like myself). Videos are pretty self explanatory. Most topics have been covered at some point in time. Big ones I’d recommend are MyNameIsByf, MyelinGames, BeardGrizzly and SirWallen. Although personal preference may vary, and I’d advice only really using these guys if you don’t understand certain aspects or events in the lore. Discord servers also exist. I and Some of the others here on bnet have one set up, and many of the youtubers I mentioned before do as well. One big thing I want to say is this: not everyone is gonna have the same viewpoint on the lore as you. That’s good. Different views help us learn to a better point. But if you bring something up that happens to be wrong, or say something that gets proven to be false, don’t take it to heart. I’ve seen many people state something that either is completely wrong or very poorly supported, which itself is fine, but they’ll act as if what they’ve said is gospel. Unless something in the lore is stated specifically as fact, don’t take it as such. It’s easy to be led astray by one’s own interpretation of the lore and in general. Anyways. I hope you find the lore (that so many of us have come to love) interesting.

            • Heyo! I can’t speak to clans, but the Ishtar collective has all the lore in one place. Also Bungie sells two Grimoire books (another on the way) that tells some really cool stories!
