If my melee won't connect, why lunge me forward?

I think this is one of the dumbest issues in general, it's not a huge problem, but it would be such a huge QoL improvement if we could melee and actually hit someone. It just seems insane that you lunge, you literally hit the enemy on your screen, but do 0 damage, or you get lunged and hit above them????????? Like why is this possible?

  • I get more annoyed when you try to use a ranged melee but end up lunging instead or vice versa.

          • Yes, this is becoming incredibly prevalent in Crucible and it pisses me off every time it happens. I get most annoyed when I melee someone below half health and turn away to engage another enemy before being shotgunned in the back because they somehow, not only took no damage, but are regenerating their health. Before anyone says, “just make sure they’re dead”, uhh it shouldn’t even be a thing you have to make sure about when you see the melee lock-on, see the low health, and hear the sound of the connection. Smh Bungie, please.

              • Ir when you infront of an enemy and all you do is swing at the air even though your target is literally two feet in front of you.

                • Don't even get me started on the difference in range and aim assist between classes. I've gotten my cheeks smacked from outrageously far, then t rex arm point blank. It's to easy to press one button and have an instant auto tracking 13m melee that kills you if you have been shot more than once.

                • Also if the melee misses why does it still make the smack noise? Or if my melee does no dmg and that causes me to die but the other guy melees me after I melee first and he does not die why does it still take my melee charge lots of times? Let's face it folks the amount of glitches, bugs and lag issues this game has is easily over 150 items long. This game is a pile of garbage.

                • If you’re talking about when you’re just shy of the correct range and you trigger your melee, then it’s a misfire. Same as if you shot a burst from a pulse rifle and missed - you’ll have a brief period of vulnerability before you can defend yourself again. It doesn’t take away the actual charge though.

                  They're too lazy or just incapable of fixing it. It's a very simple thing to understand really. Lunge=within melee range Lunge/ melee+sound/ visual effect of hitting= HIT Hit=damage Enough damage=death What's not to understand? It's a simple 2+2 equation. This isn't a hit registration issue like it is in a game like Halo, at least in most cases. It feels like half the time that your melee range doesn't match with the character models while other times it's a lock on issue or the enemy getting out of lunging distance from where you attempted it. Supers seem to have it worse though, especially Shield and Spectral, partly because you are often getting the visual and sound effects of hitting them with a 1-2 hit kill ability and they just laugh at you after surviving the impossible several times in a row. One of the reasons I don't use those abilities anymore in PVP except make in Mayhem.

                  • I die while locked into a melee animation (not dealing damage) multiple times every crucible game lol it's actually the reason why I hardly log in anymore. It's been an issue since Destiny 1 but got way worse in D2 somehow. I can deal with all the broken weapons and abilities that are thrown at me, I don't care at this point. I just want the game to work correctly and consistently.
