So we've seen since Shadowkeep, but in particular in Season of Arrivals, that the Darkness has been trying to make a somewhat peaceful though ambiguous contact with us. More to the point, they've been giving us forms of power, right up to the point where it would seem they are offering us dark powers in Beyond Light.
Here's the question. Why? Lightfall would imply that the Darkness will eventually attack us, so why make an effort to give us power now? Do they want a bigger challenge? Or is it a double edged sword?
If the sword logic truly is derived from the Darkness itself, and Unveiling would indicate it is, then to the Darkness giving is disgusting. After all, that's it's entire beef with the Gardener. Nothing good is freely given. Only taken.
So why give to us?
-
1: The souls of these damned reach out to us behind the veil of a visage, culling us to master both energies for the sake of the universe. 2: Our fallen enemies respect us, and ask us to lead them from their perspective. 3: All of you just made the biggest mistake of time and space as we know it.
-
Perhaps it deems us worthy of survival in this universe. It’s a Gift. Or perhaps it wants to destroy us from the inside. It’s Gift. Or perhaps for some other more ambiguous reason.
-
It’s a trick. We are the last defenders of the Gardner. If we turn against it, the Winnower wins. Giving us power isn’t a big risk, in its mind. It gave the Hive more and it hasn’t bitten it back, yet. Also...it kind of proves the Winnowers point either way. We use the Sword Logic to defend the Traveler, we would use it to destroy the Traveler. Heck, we will use it to destroy the Winnower.

The Darkness wants the player character on their side In its eyes, if they could some how sway you to join it then that would be the ultimate victory over the light

To appease the wanna be edgy people.

Edited by Emurinus: 9/6/2020 4:29:11 AMThe Darkness seeks to be our salvation from the Light, and is giving us a taste of its power in hopes that we begin to reject the Traveler's ideology. Lightfall is probably humanity's attempt to fight it would relying much, if at all, on the Darkness powers and we will be crushed as a result.
-
I think we not fighting the darkness just it’s ideology, so it tries to sway us to win

1 ReplySo that we can spend more money on silver in Eververse of course
-
It's to help us grasp that we are the bad guys...
-
Implying that it's given and not taken.

Edited by iKARUS: 9/6/2020 4:11:03 PMIn the name of the deep. To forsaken yourself. Sword logic as the only ideal. And u are the biggest fish in the sea atm

Edited by Grays_KS27: 9/6/2020 2:13:31 PMThe Darkness has already explained itself very thoroughly through a lot of interactions and lore. Its nature is to kill everything and that’s what it will do. But first it wants to turn us to its side to prove to the Gardner that the Gardner’s ideology is wrong and it can’t change the outcome of the game.

the darkness likes strong people, it is not the first time it has given darkness to our guardian. dredgen yor uses darkness powers. it is trying to corrupt us by saying that leave light, it’s not going to help you. what eris wants is to use the darkness powers against darkness itself.
-
I’d say that they are afraid they will loose. The collapse happened in what? a day? less than that? assuming the dark is just as powerful as it was then, it should happen just as quickly, if not sooner since the traveler is damaged The dark is afraid they might lose, their only option is to play the light's game and change the rules of the universe
-
To tempt us to switch sides go down Yor’s path but through MC powers we’ll ride the the line of light and dark.
-
<Would it not be hilarious to watch your enemy's own guardians turn against it? To reject the ideology of it in exchange for your vision?>
-
So what I am thinking is we take darkness and imbue ourselves with some of it so it is not complete darkness but close to it. Otherwise we would end up servants of the dark
