The Awoken were born out of the darkness and light colliding right where their exodus space craft was. They get sucked into a pocket universe for 12+ billion years and come back to the same space time continuum they left. How is it that “the Guardian” can be of the Awoken race if they were supposedly on earth and died during the collapse, which from my understanding, predates the birth of the Awoken?
Maybe it’s possible our Guardian died wandering through the cosmodrome between the collapse and when our story started. This is why I wish each race had an origin story for our guardian.
As a human, the most likely reason for us to be there was trying to reach an exodus ship during the collapse and we died.
As an Exo, I want to know what drove our former human self to want our consciousness transferred into an Exo frame. Why were we there in the cosmodrome when we died? <<< That deserves an answer.
As for an Awoken, perhaps we were making our way to the Last City after leaving the Reef and we got killed by Fallen.
This would be add a lot of special identity to each guardian.

3 RepliesCmon @Bungie This type of lore would be AMAZING for emmersion. Any good story has a just aas important history behind it. Sure we know about the vanguard, the fallen, even most of the awoken lore.. But I want to know about MY lore..hell we even know more about the NINE than we do about our own guardians. BUMP this post bois, let's get a lore thread

I never really cared about all that, but it was super cool when Petra called me "cousin" in the Forsaken campaign.

6 RepliesGhosts wander until they find the soul thats worthy. Either pre-determined or just unknown until they find a corpse of who they intend to fill with the light. An example is our guardian, centuries have past and the wall and city have been built before we get resurrected. The awoken have lived for 12 billion years, however thats in the dreaming city where time is different. When they returned to the reef the collapse was just finishing. The awoken who left Mara Sov to join earth and assist the recovery might have died and been resurrected as guardians.

I don't remember the exacts for Joe's supercut but orgins were different for each race. I would think the length of being dead is also different because of this oversight, but the exact time frames aren't clear either. They came back from that realm and how long they were actually gone isn't clear. Aside from those that left immediately the rest built up until the attack on Twilight Gap. I would still say that time period is more recent than beinging during or shortly after The Collapse. Zavala's origin points more towards awoken largely being newer guardians for only a handful of generations.

4 RepliesBungie has never stated our guardian died during the collapse. Holliday even wonders if we died in the collapse or afterward in the thunderlord quest

5 RepliesThere were origin stories for an Exo, Awoken, and Human guardian. Unfortunately, in the end, the Exo's origin story was picked as the default for all 3. As a Human or Awoken, you would start out somewhere else and not in the Cosmodrome.
-
Yeah just like you said, if we're an awoken that means we died while adventuring/scavenging instead of being there for possibly hundreds of years like a human or an exo

3 RepliesUldren got resurrected and the Awoken are not immortal. So they can die just like everyone. If the traveler chose to, and say, the Colonel or Louis died and a Ghost chose them, you would have Guardian Chickens and Hawks, respectively.
-
It's unrealistic to think that 1/3 of guardians, or any significant amount, would be Awoken but completely reasonable that there are "some."
-
Unfortunately we have no idea how any of the three died. Exo, Human or Awoken we could’ve died at any time, with the exception of the Awoken. The Awoken would’ve had to have been killed from the Dark Age onward.

1 ReplyOk, you to understand that when the Awoken went to the Distributary, thousands of Years past. Time works Differently there. When Mara returned they took the Reef. Zavala came from the Reef. A Tech Witch knew him before. Awoken dies,Ghost Revived them. Some awoken left the Reef. Zavala was probably on a Scout mission. Yes light and Dark is within them. But when they left the Distributary, they now can die. There I believe they were Immortal. Can't remember. But, ya that ☝️

We were on a spacewalk and drifted off...our body somehow survived reentry and hit a bustling bridge with devastating force, killing everyone. Alternatively we emigrated and just happened to be driving home after work when the world broke. Probably had groceries in the back seat.
Sorry, all out of salt.
3 RepliesEdited by Grays_KS27: 9/3/2020 11:43:14 PMThe Awoken returned to our solar system earlier in the City Age. This is described at the end of the Marasenna book and in the Awoken of the Reef book. Any one of them could have died outside the Cosmodrome and been revived as The Guardian. The situation is very complicated because we can be human, Exo, or Awoken. Each “species” changes the origin story. If you chose Awoken, it’s guaranteed we died some time during the City Age. We were most likely one of the Awoken that disobeyed Mara and left the Reef (this happened some time between Six Fronts and the Ahamkara Hunt), and we were most likely killed by Fallen. This is extremely likely to be the case, but there is a small chance that something else happened. In this case, we could also be an Earthborn Awoken (one of the descendants of those that left Mara). Either way, we died at some point after Six Fronts and were most likely killed by Fallen. If you chose human, then there are 2 options: 1: We were colonists of the Exodus program, or possibly Cosmodrome staff. Or perhaps someone who happened to be driving on the highway. Whatever the case, someone who died during the Collapse. Considering that our body was on the highway and not within the Cosmodrome it’s extremely unlikely that we were of any importance. 2: This is the most likely case because there’s a huge time frame where it could have happened. We died after the Collapse, killed by the Fallen or other humans or Lightbearers during the Dark Ages or City Age. If you chose Exo, then we were most likely some Exos serving as security or operating under Rasputin’s orders to complete some task when the Exodus program launched at the beginning of the Collapse. Exos were not sent on the Exodus program, so we weren’t a colonist. We also could have been killed some time after the Collapse.
