If the new subclass customisation is just another grind then it's already a fail

Firstly, let me say I'm looking forward to something new when it comes to changing abilites and customising your skills. I think it's massively overdue and 100% a step in the right direction. This being said, what we've been previewed has alarm bells ringing. These Aspects and Fragments that we're going to be using keep being referred to as 'found in the world' and the wording just feels wierd. Like what they really meant to say was 'these are random drops but we better not say that cos the players will have a fit.' My concern that is that the pursuit of these is just going to be another way to add to the grind or push players into certain activities. Want X stat boost for your grenade? No problem, it's a random drop in gambit. Go farm it. Want X cooldown on your melee? Sure, it drops in Trials. Have fun! How about a spiffy secondary effect on that ability? Done, just go grind the raid and it's yours! If this is how the system is going to work then it's already a fail. The playerbase has been vocal about being forced into the same stuff over and over again and come the update, when there's less 'stuff' to do overall, that's going to be even more pronounced. For this system to work, it can't feel restrictive or leave players needing to do stuff they don't want to do. We already have so many ways of the game making us do that - we really do not need another one. Of course there's the possibilty that these items are just things we find out in the world that we go and pick up. If that's the case then that would feel a bit dissapointing too. It would really boil down to spending 30 mins or whatever going to places you're not really looking to go just to unlock these things - a glorified treasure hunt really. This wouldn't feel rewarding or empowering. Given how much the game is referred to as an MMO, I'm suprised they didn't do something traditionally MMOish, like an XP system where you unlock these perks as you use the class (wasn't that how D1 worked? It's been a while but I feel like that was how D1 was). At least with something like that you feel like your time investment is paying off. We'll see. I hope we get more clarification on how the system will work soon.

  • I like grinding for nice stuff. If you have a problem with grinding, this game isn't for you.

    • I'd actually prefer to not get all these options on a silver platter, so if it's a grind I'm down.

      • The absolute last thing I actually want is just being handed all the abilities without doing anything. So....

        • Even if they were like pick ups in strikes/gambit maps/raids, as long as the aspects aren’t rng, then that’s cool. Maybe tie fragments to some rng because yknow they aren’t as central to the builds (hopefully). Still seems like the best system yet and I hope the other subclasses switch to it.
