Why does Calus hate the Awoken Queen so much?
After farming the Menagerie the past couple of days, I’ve heard Calus multiple times saying he wants to dispose of the Queen and Petra. Why does he hate them?

Calus is essentially a college student in terms of his thinking. If anyone disagrees with him then that person is awful and should be punished verbally. Mara thinks we can “beat” the darkness but from what she’s told us, it can’t just be light vs dark. There’s gotta be a middle ground.

Because they have incompatible views of the Universe. Calus has seen the Darkness and gave into Despair. He thinks its pointless to resist, and his only goal is to punish his enemies, party while the Universe burns, and be the last person standing to turn the lights out when the party's over. He wants us to be a entertaining guest at the party. Mara Sove has seen the Darkness as well. But she thinks it is possible to avoid getting destroyed in the conflict between Light and Dark. She believes that the path isn't to pick a side between Light or Dark but to strike a balance. But first she has to bring to herself enough power to defeat those who have signed on with the Darkness (The Hive) so that humanity can survive. Calus needs for Mara Sov to be wrong....so that HIS choice can appear right. If she isn't wrong....then his choice appears weak.

Because mara is fighting to save the universe and her people, while calus believes the universe is doomed and all you can do is enjoy life. Their differences in ideology make calus hate mara sov.

1 ReplyHe wanted Shaxx to come over and leave the helmet on. But Shaxx was like I’m the only npc who doesn’t swing that way and left to indulge Mara in some lore. Calus feeling rejected stated Shaxx couldn’t handle his lore anyway and proclaim hatred of Mara.

Ehy Neutral. The reason might be a sort of "crowns conflict". Calus is an Emperor, Mara a Queen. Calus wants the Guardians to become his Shadows, Mara wants the Guardians to keep the Dreaming City protected from the Taken at all costs. Calus probably see Mara as a menace because he knows that Mara "bows to no one", which means that she would not bow to him either. However those are only speculations. Maybe we will discover something more in the future.

2 RepliesThere’s the fact she calls herself a queen and she doesn’t do anything for her people, Calus seems compassionate for his subjects as long as they keep him entertained. Calus could simply disagree with how Mara does things since they are both leaders of a group and he does want to be the last being alive.

He thinks her ideas of us being able to walk the line between light and dark is foolish. He thinks we must pledge ourselves to one thing.
