Weasel Every Two Hours, On the Dot, On Xbox One and PC

I recently got back into Destiny 2 - I played most of Shadowkeep, then college kept me away. Came back for Season of Arrivals and to get ready for Beyond Light. However, since Shadowkeep, I'm now kicked off back to the start screen every two hours with a Weasel error, as is my wife (we both have an Xbox One). I just played for 2 hours on my PC and sure enough, at the 2 hour mark I was Weaseled. I have UPnP active and Open NAT on my router. The only change since Shadowkeep was I went from an R7000 Netgear router, to an R7000P. I set the UPnP and NAT settings, along with everything else, the same. The modem is a few years old Motorola Surfboard, same one I've always had. ISP is the same ISP I've always had. I have great speeds (10-11 ms ping, 400+ Mbps down and 20+ up). Here's the troubleshooting I've done so far: Replaced the Ethernet cable from my Xbox One directly to the router - no change (wife is on Wi-Fi anyway and it happens to her as well every 2 hours). Hard reset the modem and factory reset the router - no change. Hard shutdown the Xbox One; also tried clearing both caches - no change. Re-installed Destiny 2 - no change. Uninstalled the Destiny 2 app on my phone - no change. Tried factory rebooting the Xbox One - no change. Tried restarting my PC - no change. At this point, I'm at a loss as to what to do. I do have another, newer router in the house; the only thing I can think of at this point is somehow, my router is losing a single packet or two at the two hour mark, every time, so I may need to configure and install that new router? But none of other other online devices in the house act in this manner; and what little gaming I do outside of Destiny 2, I've not been disconnected (but that is pretty rare since my time is limited). I've also wondered if it is worth turning off UPnP (although I have other devices that may rely on it) and doing manual port opening? It is incredibly hard to enjoy the game when you are dreading being kicked; I cannot participate in pre-mades or raids without issue and it's making the game very hard to play. Any assistance would be appreciated.

  • Hello there, Not sure if you found your solution yet but if you did can you tell us what the problem was? If you didn't, can you tell if you're using the R7000P nighthawk router? I have a friend with the same issue and apparently the R7000P is the problem. The only solution to this I've found so far is to connect directly to the modem bypassing this router or updating the QoS which would throttle the internet speed connection. Both solutions sound less than ideal so I was hoping there was a better solution out there Thanks

  • I've never really liked using upnp, but I did use it when i started playing D2. But I switched back to manual port forwarding after noticing that I wasn't appearing as "Open" in D2. I don't know if it helped, my friends and I have been getting "Guitar" all night... finally an error where it's actually not our fault! Anyway, you didn't mention whether you updated your router firmware as after a simple search of "R7000P 2 hour timeout problem", gave me this: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Nighthawk-WiFi-Routers/R7000P-drops-connection-every-2-hours/td-p/1617647 Which is two years old, surely they've patched it since then?

  • If it's really every two hours, I'd also inquire your ISP about it.
