Ranking the raids (plus dungeon and lairs separately)

I’m not going with solely fun factor but that is part of it. Mostly encounter design, does everyone have an important role, environment and boss fights. Loot will play only a very small part in my ranking as I don’t believe the loot reflects raid quality. Judging by today’s standards not nostalgia. PS long post sorry about inevitable errors on my phone 1. Kings Fall - huge story significance, several boss fights, crazy cool environments like the ships, most team members are important, many encounters, some decent fun factor especially your first time experience. 2. Last Wish - See above only slightly less executed on everything, yes assuming you don’t cheese Riven every time here. That boss fight is crazy hard and quite thrilling (the real way) 3. Wrath of The Machine - Overall refreshing encounters especially for the time. New ways to damage, slamming on bosses, great environment, a bit short but very sweet. Most team members are important. Plus fun chase encounter that is short and sweet. 4. Vault of Glass - I know you’re mad it’s this far down but you guys get a bit nostalgic. It’s very simplistic and maybe you like that but watch us crush it in seconds when it comes back. Mechanics were easy and only level held people back for quite a while. It is fun though. It does have some pretty decent encounters, cool gorgon maze to switch gameplay up. Great environment. 5. Leviathan - Many hated on it until it was announced it would be leaving but now you see. It’s not bad at all. Huge underbelly to explore which I give them credit for. Two ways to get to cp (underbelly or castellum). Well designed encounters and even some fun ones like gauntlet and occasionally dogs if your team is smart. Good boss with story significance. 6. Garden of Salvation - beautiful environments, decent story. Final boss can feel super hectic which is kind of fun and has hero moments. Tethering can be frustrating as is doing motes yet again. Different roles are cool at least and there’s no super easy way out. 7. Scourge of The Past - Cool new environment types for raids, sparrows and tanks were a nice addition. Also fun to do the sparrow chase. Map reading is cool and the city parkour. Final boss is a nice twist on fallen. Meh story for the season though. 8. Crown of Sorrow - a shame it’s so far down but most Destiny raids are great. Still fun and the final boss environment is good but there are only two main areas aside from jumping area. Good story for a seasonal raid. The mechanics are good and force the team to all have the same roles in the final encounter and be equally responsible. Cool sacrificing via giant axe. However the fun factor leaves a bit to be desired. 9. Crotas End - you expected it but I’ll sing a quick praise or two. The pit itself with the lamp maze is great. Perfect raid intro and very fun. Bridge is meh (if you doubt we will crush VOG when it comes back people used to have to cheese bridge... we have evolved as PVE players). Boss is far too simplistic if we had it now it would be cake. You could teach a 5 year old crota. Dungeons 1. Pit of Heresy - beautiful environment very dark and spooky, cool sword mechanics, fun hiding from ogres maze and jumping puzzle, okay final boss. Great fun factor overall. 2. Shattered Throne - Great story significance, great environment and encounters but both boss encounters are lacking for me. Very close to beating Pit but I think Pit is very well designed for fun factor. 3. Prophecy - I came back to the game to try this... now I’m bored of it. Motes based on where you’re standing and waiting for knights to spawn... sparrow part is only cool like twice. Hexahedron is interesting but at the end of the day the different sides don’t mean anything. I’m not shooting an enemy who is standing sideways on the wall from my perspective. Story is shit save for some future predictions I guess. Lairs 1. Eater of Worlds - Very fun final boss and quick easy run through. Cool cranium idea and boss platforms. Wins on fun factor although it’s a bit too easy and not demanding enough of all but at least the roles are mostly equal 2. Spire of Stars - interesting encounters, blowing up ships, good boss fight, everyone has a big role and needs to execute. It may be harder and frustrating at times but very well designed. Bonus - Menagerie is the best seasonal PVE activity ever made. Great loot system, cool story with the barge to invite us, fun and cool mechanics. Great overall.
