Is "Vaulting" Legal??

What are the ethical or potentially legal implications of deleting previously paid-for content from a video game? After the vaulting all the stuff i paid will be gone, and i need to pay for new expansion again ,while my old expansion is taken away without giving me any compensation I've paid for the game and expected to be composed by @Bungie.

  • You only buy a license to use the game. Bungie owns all content. A license that can be revoked at any time for any reason by Bungie. Read the EULA or Terms of Service. So yes, vaulting and sunsetting are legal. If players don't think it's *ethical*, then they need to stand their ground and say good bye to the game.

  • It's perfectly legal. How you dimglows don't understand this is beyond me. I have well over 2000 hours in the Destiny franchise and even if I paid $500 total for it (which I haven't)that's still $0.25/hour of access. That's a heck of a lot better than paying $60 for Tomb Raider and getting 30 hours of content. Don't buy the DLC if you don't want it. You're just wasting time. You aren't scaring Bungie at all because there is zero legal grey area here... it's all straight up black and white.

      • To know whether it's legal or not, you have to look at how your country deals with the sale of software licenses.

        • 100% You agreed to the terms of service. Plus you do not own content. You paid for a license to access the content. Look at a car lease for an example. You don't own that car, and after a period its returned to the dealer and you need to lease a new one. Very common practice.

              • I dunno, because nobody challenges these EULAs, so we really do not know the full extent of their legality. Even if someone did, I’m sure there would be a settlement made with an NDA saying if you mention something, you lose your payment. So could there be? No one could tell you for sure, hence why the posts claiming they are 100% legal.

                • Go try asking Blizzard if it was legal to destroy old areas during the WoW: Cataclysm expansion and see where that gets you.
