Hey Bungie, about that "action MMO" thing.
Hey Bungie Destiny is NOT an "action MMO", it may share similar characteristics with MMO's but its a half ars-ed implimentation of MMO mechanics. A post I just read in regards to solo play stated "Bungie strongly encourages playing with other people, Its a multiplayer game" well yes but actually no, IF Bungie were at all serious and wished to "encourage" players they would and should implement some sort of chat function/group finder within game (especially on console) such as the types used in MMO's such as Elder Scolls Online/FF 14. I am aware that the pc version has a chat function so why not console? If Zenimax Online can create chat and LFG functions within their game I'm pretty sure Bungie can do they same, after all I keep hearing what a talented and creative dev team they have there... I DO NOT want to install some mostly pointless companion app or Discord on my mobile phone/pc/laptop thank you, or even join PS4's annoying "Community" feature (it sucks) or have to keep swapping between console/PC just to go looking for a fireteam to play your (imo NOT VERY) multiplayer or solo friendly MMO lite looter shooter on the platform of my choosing! Oh and Bungie fanboys please stop jumping down someones throat every time they criticise Bungies poorly implemented features in their game, there is a good game (its why I keep coming back to it and hoping they include some better quality of life changes to the game) within Destiny but its buried undereath a ton of Bungie flavoured cr-ap and elitist (get gud) fanboy-ism sadly.

Co-op fps with peer to peer instanced world, very far from an MMO. Would love Destiny to become and actual MMO, but it would need a new engine drop how power works, actual servers and most of all progression. BTW only FPS MMO in the near future will be Plan8 so far I know.

Destiny is a whole lot of other games too. Not just an MMO. They listen and respond to other games. Like "Sunsetting." They kinda compared the idea from a Magic Card game. They said it themselves. They also copy from other games of the same genres. At first glance, I thought Destiny was a first-person MMO shooter. Then they announced it was an Action game MMA game Cards whatever blah, blah, blah. That's where the Finishers comes in when Sunsetting is in full force. Once your guns expire, they are Vaulted! Melee Finishers will be the next best thing it will basically trump everything with a Magic Card combo kick/punch turn magic chop combo cards! . . . That's gonna be new Meta. Like OP! When they developed Finishers, even their own staff designers could not believe what game they're playing. They even said it themselves surprisingly, like what game is this?. . . Like OP! Then they rolled the Finishers out into Eververse Store where you can buy them with real money thrown on the screen. That's when you realized they also listen and respond to the sound of Money. As the Drifter says - "Ding!" By the way, don't forget to buy your seasonal Trannymogs Armor too from Eververse. Or else your guardians will be naked next season. They like balls, you know?! . . . with combo cards chop magic! Okay, Bungie Bye!

D2 definitely has some more aspects of an MMO than D1. Maybe that's why D1 felt better. Destiny is at its peak when shooting comes first.

1 ReplyBeen saying it ever since they changed it from “Shared world”, which makes sense, not MMO.. A MMORPG is in fact also a shared world, the reason it’s called MMO isn’t the shared world bit. It’s the Massive Mulitplayer bit. That’s why you can see [i]hundreds[/i] people in one area. A lot of people in the same location at one time. Destiny is not massive. 3 man teams, 6 man activities, 20 man public spaces? Nothing massive about those numbers. At all. But Luke Smith is a diehard WoW guy so of course that’s all he can plagiarize.

Let's be honest, Chess is more of an MMO than Destiny 2 is. In every MMO I can do something basic, like search for a Guild or Clan in the game and apply to said Guild or Clan in game. In every MMO, the world zones have more than 12 people in it, you know, because they're [i]MASSIVE[/i]. In every MMO I've seen, there's some type of progression of power, meaning I don't unlock this spell until lv 15 or I can't equip this sword until lv 15 and that spell or sword doesn't dictate my overall character level. Heck, in every MMO I know of, I can, without having to jump through hoops and going to a "sanctioned battlefield", duel someone in the streets of the town. Destiny isn't an MMO. I've seen more players walking around in dead games like Rift or Aura Kingdom than I can find zone hopping on Nessus or IO. I don't care what Bungie wants Destiny to be, they just need to pick something and stick with it. Is Destiny a Looter Shooter, or is it an MMO? If it's a Looter Shooter, then great, implement things that will make the Looting and Shooting great. If it's an MMO, the great, implement things that will make the Massive Multiplayer Online experience great. Trying to make the game both hasn't blended well, and continues to conflict with one another.

4 RepliesNot defending bungie here but the "next" expansion is the "beginning" of turning the game into more mmo. Judging it now is pointless. At least wait till next expansion and critique the new features that will drive the game toward mmo.

29 RepliesChat on console is neither necessary nor feasible at all. And no, destiny is not an MMO in the way you’re thinking of one. All a game needs to be an MMO is an open space in which multiple players that are not in the same team can be in the same space. Thus, destiny is an MMO by definition.

Funny, they didn't market it as a multiplayer game when they were taking my money. It was all about the long-time story arc and all the missions that I'd be able to play. Bait and switch. Haven't played for three months and went on two days ago. 20 minutes in they disconnected me. Okay, I can take a hint.

'action'.... Half of your action will be trying to put together a full fireteam just to get started... the other half of the action will be trying to maintain a connection. There isnt alot of time left for actually playing the game.

Unfortunately, some take the x% of an MMO that it is and round it to 100% in terms of anything that should be done to the game. Like if you remember that one skit from Family Guy I think, dude takes his 2% African heritage as an n-word pass, it's basically like that. Stupid. Least in one context, it's supposed to be funny.
