So I downloaded the Solstice of Heroes soundtrack from the Bungie Rewards page (great track!) and was shocked to discover that a 2-minute track weighed in at over 20 MB. Fully expecting the embedded cover art to be an 8000x8000 16-bit PNG, I extracted it and was again shocked to discover it was instead "just" a 1080x1080 normal PNG that nevertheless took up 16 MB.
Knowing that an image file like that could never just be 16 MB because of the image data alone, I did what any normal person would do and looked at it more closely in exiftool. Apparently whoever saved out the final version of the cover art file inadvertently also embedded a whopping (and I'm assuming the regular image data to be around 2 MB) 14 MB of useless (to us users, anyway) Photoshop metadata.
Now I know the design people were hired to make cool artwork, not to be metadata nerds, but at some point between the submission of this image file and the final upload of the soundtrack file someone should've noticed that a 2-minute MP3 couldn't possibly be 20 MB without something not being on the up and up.
If at all possible, I'd appreciate it if you could give that file another pass and strip the metadata out of the cover art before merging it into the MP3, if only to help those with excruciatingly slow internet speeds.
Thanks <3

2 RepliesI’m having trouble getting the cover art onto my iPhone with the song. It irritates me when I have songs that don’t have cover art lol. Do you know what I can do to fix this?

SamusAranX you make some valid points and I agree that ever verse should be removed from this game. But Whether we wanted it or not, we’ve stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars. So let’s get to taking out their command, one by one. Valus Ta’aurc. From what I can gather he commands the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank outside of Rubicon. He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defenses, take this beast out, and break their grip on Freehold.

Someone I cant apply common sense too because he knows what hes talking about... my god...

Edited by Corrick II: 8/17/2020 2:24:05 PMEven an average artist should know if a basic PNG at that size comes out that large there’s something wrong or they saved it incorrectly.

Bungie likes leaving in useless data in their games and now soundtracks xD

Edited by Fitztaculah: 8/17/2020 3:34:08 PM“I did what any normal person would do”, hahaha I love it. There’s always tinypng.com, which perhaps Bungie should consider using next time (it’s free). Photoshop also lets you export at various resolutions so that the file isn’t that massive. It is just one image out of many they have created but I’m surprised there isn’t a streamlined process for graphic design at Bungie.

1 ReplyAnd here I was more upset that the only option was a MP3 format..
-
3 RepliesWhy on earth do you care that a song is 20 MB that’s like 3 seconds for very slow internet to download
-
2 RepliesIn fairness to you, thank you from the community for pointing out a little fix like this. But FYI when you said "what any normal person would do"... I have bad news for you. <3 upvoted OP

No wonder the game is over 100gb...

That part when you say "I did what any normal person would do" gave me a good laugh. Take my upvote just for that alone. :)

1 ReplyGood sir, that is the Bungie standard. Have you seen how they design assets? It scares me to think how many objects(or parts of objects) you cant see but the game has to load in. The most epic fail was the warmind pub event platforms from last season. if you ever glitched off the map its like looking at an ice burg in the ocean.
-
Wouldn't be surprised if this was the source of all that bloated space that they "need to cut"
-
I think the only group at bungie that hasn’t screwed up is the music crew, bangers every season.
-
Look at all these defender cadets intentionally ignoring the point. 87.5% of your data being useless fluff is about the most Bungie/Destiny thing I can imagine. Don't forget to give money to their favorite streamers and preorder more useless fluff!

1 ReplyYou sound like that dude from Better Call Saul whenever he gets his files altered and everyone thinks he’s crazy especially with his “allergy” to electricity.
-
2 RepliesJust another example of how Bungie churns out crap without even checking it.

6 RepliesEdited by thatdudeEd54: 8/17/2020 5:42:14 PMIts 2020 and people are complaining about 20 MB of data smh....
-
11 RepliesWow such a huge file size. Lmao if 20 mb is a issue for you should you really be playing a 70+ gb game with weekly patches?
-
...bungo why
-
Leave it to Bungie to screw this up.
-
Yes bungie please take into account ever possible outcome ever when doing anything and everything. Just a shame it had to be said

This is my favorite post ever 😂
