There was a time when I would grind Destiny to no end. The game had far less content than it does now, but somehow it always felt like there was something that I WANTED to do. Now? Don't care about IB. Don't care about yet another overly tedious and lackluster Solstice event. Don't care about gear. Specific rolls. Honestly other than taking my noob friends into the Dungeon for the first time this past week(we had a blast BTW, no one had any idea of what to do, so we just went in blind), there isn't any incentive to DO anything in D2. Gear is now irrelevant(there will just be more of the same shit next season, and the season after that.) Upgrades are irrelevant(even if it made a bigger difference, there is no real point to investing in upgrades, since there will always be something slightly "better" coming). Leveling is arbitrary, has no bearing on our actual in game power. And the list goes on. The question is, why? Best feeling shooty mechanics IMO. Great looking. Great music. Bottom line the game has a lot of things going for it. But there is no depth to a game world that we have played in for 6+ years. Our Guardians are no more legend now than they were in D1. Our time invested in the game is just as meaningless now as ever. And now, with the only thing of note we actually have "accomplished" being rendered obsolete(our gear collection). WTF is the point? It's like having the ingredients for a 5 star meal, then giving them to a line cook at a fast food chain and telling them they have to make nothing but burgers and fries. And not just ANY burgers and fries. No, they have to make very limited and dumbed down food, regardless of their skill, or the ingredients they have been given. I normally would have pre-ordered by now. And yes, ultimately I may fall for the hype and end up buying Destiny 3(let's not kid ourselves here). But right now, at a time when I should be hyped, coasting through an extended season, doing anything I want at a leisurely pace. I just don't care. Why do IB again, to farm up the same gear I unlocked last time? Why keep doing the same seasonal quest, for a meaningless cut scene, and a pinnacle that doesn't really matter? The answer? I don't. Playtime is cut to almost nothing, other than with my friends. And I have no interest in Solstice at all. Not for the 3rd time. Not for the same tedious quests.. And I don't even feel "burnt out". I really just think the devs are completely lost when it comes to the game they HAVE, so they keep trying to turn it into something that it isn't.
