Will sunsetting make more players leave?

Do you think sunsetting will be a good thing or a bad thing? Will it make even more players leave the game? What would make sunsetting less frustrating? I suggested using ascendant shards to upgrade a weapon to the max sunset level for that season for weapons that are still available in that season.

I’ll still play but expect player numbers to go down, and the type of player lost will most likely be vets over new lights I think. Shame

    • Bungie is focused on the newer players anyway. In a couple more months, either no one will care, or no one will remember.

    • Doubt it...any one who played D1 destiny would know the frustration of having gjallerhorn at 170 power..just to have to find it again to bring it up to 300 power...I still have a gjallerhorn in my vault at 130 power...

Bungie has already -blam!-ed the dog. People have already left. The game is like a -godwinslaw!- training camp these days. We have to do as we are told or get shot.

      • I was ok with it until I saw how it was really implemented. If we were dropping our old gear in favor new gear, im all for it. Instead, we are dropping our gear in favor of the same gear we've had for 2 years. It is not solving any powercreep problem or opening up our inventories for new things, it is replacing the same gear with the same gear with nothing more than a different icon on it, forcing us to regrind for the same thing for no reason. And once again, there is nothing different about them so any problem with powercreep the weapons might have been causing is still a problem. Its just pointless.

It would be stupid to rule out the possibility of it doing so, that's for sure. It personally has soured my experience with the game and has rendered all these weapons I saved up in my vault worthless. About 2 years of weapons basically down the drain, even the viable year 1 weapons die because of it. And for what, a CHANCE they'll "improve" the game? I would NOT trade any single weapon, no matter how shitty, for those 2 iron banner perks. Because those were supposed to give us a taste of what's in store for us. Because perks with negative attributes are so much fun :/ We all know pve is never going to be anything but damage and reload perks and since theyve made it VERY clear they don't want to go above a certain point for those, we can assume that gameplay will remain stagnant but this time with a different coat of paint. And don't even get me started on armor. It's getting sunsetted for what, the mod builds? Just get rid of the stupid mods not everything else, it's effectively the same thing just without the nonsensical requirement that you have to REPLACE your damn gear. I don't care that it gives materials more value, they are already boring enough to farm because you can only do the same activity over and over again to acquire anything above cores. The game doesn't need more boring repetitive grinding and it took me till about a couple of months ago to finally be comfortable with my stat build. But no, every year now I've gotta chase the same thing over and over? Screw that. Unless they make the game less tedious as a whole...I'm not sure how happy I will be with the game. Because as the game is right now in it's current state of transition...it's not ready and theyve done too little to reassure anybody that it will truly help. Sunsetting doesn't inherently mean good or bad, it's how they handle it that determines which it is. And right now it's not good.

        • It’ll make people on the forums leave, (though they’ll come back immediately like nothing ever happened,) but otherwise no, people will realize its good for the game eventually.

            • It's one of the reasons I'm planning my escape. Already got the expansion refunded, abandoned my Solstice quests, and planning to play the expansion story thru Game Pass for the two hours it takes before not touching the game until the next expansion drops on Game Pass to repeat the process. I'm done letting Bungie tell me how to play the game, so I'm going full free-to-play. Bungie will not see another shiny cent from me.

            • some will leave for good, others will play less. The problem with sunset is that it will divide the community even more. I have little to no incentive to do endgame activities as it is and if I need to grind out weapons just for the sake of making an arbitrary number increase so I can make more damage, or even enter the activity, then that does not make me more excited. People that enjoy endgame activities will focus their activities on making their builds viable for that, which means they will separate themselves even further as their game persuits will diverge. Then there are the PVP who will go after only what gives advantages in PVP. Depending how Trials and possibly IB evolve sunsetting will have different impact. If these playmodes continue as today there will be little to no reason to go after non-meta weapons, sunset or not.

              • It already has I believe, but imo sunsetting can be good. It makes more room for seasonal metas which I look forward too, I have been maining gnawing hunger this season. My idea of this game now is to build the most op stuff you can, I actually will try to strive for this every season now as it is really fun. :)

              • Most likely. People are getting tired of 0 reward experience. The raids give you trash, the dungeons give you trash, the GM nightfalls give you trash the iron banner gives you ultra trash it’s just never ending list of trash rewards. Seeing more stuff gets worthless will just drove people off and we are getting so many new games, solstice looks like a torture atm.

              • Already lost several people because of it. They had been around since D1. Sucks to lose my buddies over a poor decision. None of my original group play the game any more. Endgame is continually finding new people to play with after bungie chases the current ones away.

                • No one is going to leave, as long as exotics get to stay relevant then its fine. The whole point of looter shooters is to search and grind for the highest tier weapons no? Exotics are the highest tier in the game and have the most unique perks for potential builds. Legendaries are to simply fill in the gap which is why I don’t mind sunsetting anymore. Mountaintop going away for example is a blessing

                  • I don't think it's that big of deal, they've had "sunsetting" in the game for a while now. how many people still take a midnight coup into a grand master nightfall? or use Y1 static rolled armor? or how many people prefer to use Y1 armor over having powerful friends mod? I think the biggest issue is for those that came in with new light are just hitting their first round of sunsetting. What I would like to see with the sunsetting is that the random rolled weapons in the collection that are no longer obtainable get a static roll so we can pull it out for a strike or control if we feel like it since we not getting vault space seemingly.

Sunset weapons you can use in strikes or patrol? Nahhh Im gonna finish this season and maybe play next, but ill not buy or recommend this game.. Force people leave weapons from event? Trials of the Nine? Season pass weapons? Nahhh never again waste time to get godroll. Some people ill think im using only mt and recluse xD JajajJa i used Redrix and MINDBENDER'S AMBITION with icaro mod(snapshot and quickdraw) in Crown of Sorrow Flawless... And i love use same weapons all the time, like Cayde had his Ace of Spade(did you see ever him using a smg? Or any other weapons?)
