Who doesn't have a Warning for Upstream Bandwidth?

  • I've always pulled host in COD, but Halo won't even let me host my own custom game. I think the problem is Bungie doesn't update the stats for player's connections or know how to measure the connections, or maybe their servers are all the way down in California which explains the Cali Host Lag Factor.

Xbox LIVE only uses a fraction of your bandwidth (~40-60kbps upstream and ~40-50kbps downstream). Almost any modern internet package is more than capable of maintaining those speeds. Sadly, it is chumps like you that have fallen for most cable ISP's "More Bandwidth = Better Gaming" ploy. The only things that matter are packet loss and latency, the former is where Coax falls flat on its face. Cable is known to be a "fat leaky pipe", dropping packets like mad, in favor of unnecessary bandwidth; bandwidth that you are constantly competing with your neighbors for, which only exacerbates the packet loss issue. I chose VDSL (AT&T Uverse) based on weeks of research and couldn't be happier. There is only <700' of copper between my house and the node down the street, the rest is fiber. I'm not competing with anyone for bandwidth, meaning my speeds are rock solid, day or night with latency in the upper teens and no packet loss. Maybe 5 years ago DSL was bandwidth-challenged; but today, VDSL is capable of speeds upwards of ~60mbps down and ~25mbps up (again, extreme overkill as far as LIVE is concerned.) On topic, everything is in the green and I pull host often (In MW2, I hosted close to 95% of the time).

  • http://www.speedtest.net/result/995922388.png My actual results.. 25 download & 20 upload. 8ms ping... My NAT was "Moderate", but I've forwarded ports last night & now its "open".. Packet loss is "low/excellent".. But still a "warning" in upstream.. Maybe its because of my NAT settings before.. But seriously.. 16 player games 100% smooth with 2 people streaming video & another playing an MMO..

  • Still "Undetected" for me. 30 Mbps Down 2 Mbps Up I haven't had any problems at all not even when playing Firefight overseas, except when playing with my friend who has his NAT closed.

  • 20 upload & 20 download.. I has warning too.. Stupid.. I can host 16 player games smoothly with three other people using their own computers.. How does this equate to a "warning"? I should have "AMAZING!!!!11!1!" upstream bandwith. [Edited on 10.18.2010 10:29 PM PDT]

  • I have the warning message as well despite having excellent internet connection. I never lag or never have connection problems, so I don't know what's up with that.
