I don't see what's wrong with special now.

Imo, the current weapon system feeds into using special weapons. I am a fan of a weapon system overhaul, making your choice in weapon mean something, then we can look at the special ammo economy.
What am I even talking about? All guns have no specific uses, they’re all point and shoot; being far more effective than their weapon types should be
• I think (and maybe this is what you're thinking too) that the game has a few "mechanics" issues that outweigh the need for a special weapon or ammo overhaul. If Bungie ever decided to balance out these mechanics (looking at you sniper flinch), then yes, the ammo economy can be adjusted. I don't think there is enough separation between PvE and PvP to make some of those mechanics adjustments though.

  • My real thought is I want weapons to be useful for specific situations, not useful in all situations. My suggestion was to introduce a minimum range for weapons, thereby making it so you would have to plan your battles, plan your loadouts. If a weapon system overhaul were to occur, then maybe the special ammo economy wouldn’t be such an issue.

  • That might work for intellectual people, but your average run by the flag and not capture it because "me have gun, me kill" PvP player isn't going to understand that.

  • As depressing as your statement is, it is hard to disagree with blatant facts.

Well, someone can get an Erentil and drop 35 kills in a match. 33 of them being Erentil. I'm not saying that the gun is broken or anything. It's just that there's no reason for a primary if you have unlimited OHK potential with something most primaries can't consistently gun down before it goes off. I honestly don't have a huge issue with them. I just wish there was more primary variety and snipers would stop flinching at me.

  • I play a few PvP games and a lot of them have one hit potential. Mostly Halo and CoD, so I suppose I'm just used to it. The only thing that comes to mind is, I should not be armed with an AR and a HC back up and lose a fight to a sniper within my optimal kill range because Bungie has no mechanic to protect from that. In Halo, you get knocked out of ADS when shot. In D2, a team can directly control how much special they feed the opposing team by not carrying special weapons, but the game has no mechanic to protect players who choose to do that. I think if long range special and heavy weapons had the knock out ADS feature, it would solve a lot of those issues.

Well Halo also had perfect hip fire accuracy and little to no bloom. That's why being knocked out of ADS worked. Destiny would need a hige overhaul to do that. And in CoD (at least the ones I played) while OHK weapoms do exist, the average TTK is like, 0.2 seconds. D2 is sitting at an average of 0.7-0.8 seconds or so. So OHK weapons are reigned in fairly successfully with the lethality of primaries. Not necessarily the same thing.

Those are all fair points, but it kind of also strengthens the argument for knocking out ADS in Destiny. Your primaries have a longer TTK AND bloom so they're even less effective against a sniper rifle at the outer edge of say an ARs range and the inner range of a sniper. The AR shouldn't win the fight, but the flinch should be enough to allow you to get to cover, not allow the sniper to be flinched into you while maintaining ADS with no fear of imminent defeat. It's the same thing with pre firing an Arbalest or as mentioned above Erentil. It's not an ammo problem, it's in the balance of the game mechanics. I suppose I don't really care how Bungie handles it though because Crucible is my least played and least favorite of the handful of PvP games I play. I'm down to sometimes getting my pinnacle gear then dipping out and other times not even bothering. Esit: not knocking out ADS on all weapons, just long range specials.

Well what I'm saying is that the sniper in Halo was still 100% viable even after being knocked out of ADS. That was the balance. You lost the scope and the ease of use when you got shot, rather than the entire viability of the weapon. In D2, scoping is everything. I think you're right about game mechanics though. Snipers need to be looked at. Flinch is getting annoying.
