He was backed up to the cloud but Zavala hated the teasing he got for "needing" Cayde during the Red War so he chooses to leave Cayde's personality on his Desktop in his office out of spite.
If Zavala stops being a prick, we'll get Cayde back but he won't be a guardian. Just a regular Exo. Maybe even gets himself an Eagle like Hawthorne.
As I understand it, the vanguard used to be one of each class (Titan, Warlock, Hunter).
I've only known two. I agree we need another Hunter vanguard. And since they're stealthy, it doesn't have to be anyone we know -- a successful scout / sniper / infiltrator would only be known by the recon info turned in or enemy operations halted.
Nathan Fillion's voice is Cayde in the legacy material, but oddly, it's some other dude in Forsaken, which was a bit jarring for me.
I'm thinking Cayde's personality came from the voice actor himself, a bit. So the choice of the new Hunter vanguard would have to be an available voice actor willing to work for the rates probably paid out for work on Destiny (har har haw haw). Then the personality would emerge. Some suggestions:
Peter Jessop (Paladin Danse in F4, Miraak in Skyrim)
Claudia Black (completely wasted as Tess Everess -- was Morrigan in Dragon Age & tons more)
Claudia Christian (Ivanova from Babylon 5, bunch of voices in Skyrim)
Marvin Jones III / Krondon (Tobias Whale from Black Lightning)
List goes on, those were the ones off the top of my head.
Nah let's not cheapen the one meaningful death in the universe. Honestly instead of bringing characters back they should really kill one or two more. Would love to see Eris die (note that I love Eris but her death would hit the community harder than any other character imo).
