The game is not in a good state

I started playing about 3 months ago, hate to say this, but I'm quitting the game for good. It is the first time that I'm this frustrated with a game. Don't get me wrong, the concept of the game is great and the lore is truly fascinating, however, the way the game is designed is terrible. This is going to be a rant, I'm just very disappointed to see a game with such a beautiful atmosphere and concept being executed so poorly. I can't recommend this game at its current state to anyone. Table of content: 1. New player experience 2. Gameplay + Sunsetting 3. Dev player communication New player experience: - There's little to no in-game tutorials when you first start. You have to search up a youtube video to learn what you are supposed to do. It's hard for new players like me to know what the actual **** is going on and how to play the game since there's no tutorial. - After landing in the tower, you are simply given a set of overwhelming missions which tells you to explore other planets and games major playlists. Nothing about how the game mechanics work. ( the difference between weapons and the different scenarios to use them, infusion, armor mods.. etc ) Trust me, the game doesn't explain it to you during these missions either. - Upon completing these mission, to ACTUALLY play the game, you gotta grind a thing called power level to access new and somewhat enjoyable content. Oh, u wanna play new content? SORRY GOTTA GRIND FOR AT LEAST 60 HOURS TO PLAY THEM. OH GUESS WHAT, EVERY THREE MONTH YOU PROGRESS GETS RESET SO YOU GOTTA GRIND AGAIN!! YEEEEEEET Oh, u want good loot and enjoy new stuff? SORRY MATE, GOTTA BUY THE SEASON PASS AND GRIND THE SAME MISSIONS OVER AND OVER AGAIN. Why would you reset the time and dedication they put into the game once in a while? To make them more dedicated to the game? So they can purchase the season pass to level up faster? It's almost like a chore to start playing the game. Trust me on this one, upon reaching power level 1000 ( soft cap for this season ) the game will be fine but afterwards, it does not feel like you are playing the game but WORKING. Even worse, lemme just repeat this: you lose progress every 3 months as they increase the power caps and you go do it all OVER AGAIN. TRUST ME! IT'S NOT FUN! Gameplay + Sunsetting: RNG, BOUNTIES, CHEATS The entire game is based on the concept of reward & punishment bias. It exploits your feeling of being afraid to be left behind, your thirst for rewards to keep you constantly dedicated to it. At this point, it's almost like a 24 7 job if you wanna keep up with the game. If you stop playing for let's say a month due to things in life and work, you will miss the content and the rewards you get for them. This punishes you severely - To make up for the time, you gotta put in triple the efforts to the game so you can keep up with it. It is impossible to play this game casually. Playing this game is like being a hamster chasing for a reward but once you reach it, your reward is moved further. ( power grinding, sunsetting ) This is not what an MMO FIRST-PERSON LOOTER SHOOTER RPG ( what the developers call this game ) should feel like. Even when I get the loot, I don't enjoy it as I'm so tired from the process of getting it. They've pushed my reward n punishment bias to the point where I don't even want the rewards anymore by stop playing the game. Now, this is how bad the system is at the moment. BOUNTIES: - In my opinion the worst part of the game, extremely repetitive, you kill stuff around the solar system and get XP which allows you to actually play the game. Outdated, Old fashioned Boomer design. The part where the community complains about the most. - PVE: Extremely repetitive and unrewarding. The entire loot system is based on RNG, you get to enjoy the joy of doing the same activities over and over and OVER again just for RNG to work for you and give you something good. You are forced to play the activities you don't enjoy to grind the so-called power cap to play new content they release every 3 months. Raids: - The only thing that's worth playing. But check this out: you need friends and if you want to get exotics ( raid exclusive, very good weapons ) you gotta grind it over n over again for RNG to be good. Sunsetting: - your armors and weapons have a sort of seasonal power cap, meaning they can only reach a specific power. If the activity requires you a certain level, the weapon you currently enjoy using will not be viable. THEY WILL BE USELESS AFTER EVERY 3-6 MONTH. - This is the first season of sunsetting. I was initially excited since the devs said they will be releasing NEW weapons to REPLACING old ones, but they are REISSUING the SAME weapons with a new power cap. Oh, U ALSO GOTTA GRIND IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN for the same rolls of the old one u enjoyed using but with a new power level so you can use it in all the activities WOW VERY FUN. The company simply doesn't appreciate the time you put into the game. PVP: - It is connection based matchmaking so you will match with either sweats or a bunch of noobs, which I'm totally fine with at this point. HOWEVER, THE GAME DOESNT EVEN HAVE AN ANTI-CHEAT SYSTEM!!! FOR REAL. Either in Competitive or Normal game modes, you will get matched against cheaters or people who just afk so they can end the match ASAP for gears that increase their power level SO THEY CAN ACTUALLY PLAY THE ACTIVITIES THEY ENJOY There will be these people in my match almost half of the time. No joke. The weapons used in PVP is also very imbalanced, with a pool of very limited choices and overpowered weapons. Dev - Player Communication: - It does not exist. If you have a technical issue, you gotta post it on the forum and hope some kind players will help you to fix it. For a franchise that's been going on for almost 7 years, it's just absurd for it to not have a support channel for the players. Sorry about the rant, but a lot of things has to change for the game to be enjoyable.

  • It's funny how posts like this get downvoted even though you make some good points. The game is actually in a bad state and this company convinced a lot of players this is what you call "quality content". If anyone really looked at this game from the outside, they can actually see how It's all over the dame place that there is no consistency and that's because there is no foundation, and there is no foundation because this company has been constantly changing everything in the game for 3 years now and will continue to do so. It's been 6 years and the game is no further than when it launched of giving this game it's own identity nor is it any further then this company having an idea where they are going with the game. Hell, most of the developers don't even play the game that that alone explains why there are a lot of the dumb decisions made for this game. Overall, this has been a 3-year bata, and I'm still waiting for the actual game to start.

    • You make a lot of good points. I'm taking an extended break from the game. This is the longest I have stopped playing since D2 vanilla limped into our lives. It finally got to a point where the game annoyed me more than made me happy. That hasn't happened since 2017. This current season was the final straw. Not being able to do the dungeon, on day 1, was pretty much a deal breaker for me. Brand new season and on day 1 this -blam!-ing game was telling me to grind Gambit for bounties. And, another -blam!-ing public event. I couldn't believe it. Then they take away SBMM from everything, including IB. Yup. I'm done. I may come back in November, for the next expansion, but......maybe not. There are lot of great games coming out that may make D2 obsolete for me. I see myself playing GOT, Halo, and Cyberpunk instead.

I finally quit today. Deleted last character.(appears you can’t delete last character?) Bungie just has no quality to be proud of. They just quit on there promise of a solid 10 year experience. Not a problem as it’s just a company making money by over selling and underperforming. It was my hobby for a very long time and I just feel disappointed that I stayed playing and carried on paying for so long. Ashamed to say but it’s just playing r with dolls. Maybe there is nothing wrong with that for some. Best of luck;)

      • That's the longest post I've read from start to finish only because you had a table of contents. I see you played attention in school so I read on. As a long time player of this game from pre-launch of D1 to now, you make some very valid points. It makes me question why I keep playing even after my friends left to play other games.

        • As a new player or a returning player I agree it’s a complete cluster -blam!- of quest bombardment and no actual direction when you start. As a “NEW” player that’s only been around for 3 months I don’t really understand how sunsetting would be an issue for you?

        • What's wrong with bounties? I actually like the system, they push me into doing content or using weapon's that are away from the current meta. Honestly, what's the alternative? If they changed the primary exp gain from bounties to kills/content completions you would end up running whatever the most efficient mission is with the same load out. I just wish they added more randomness to the bounty system. And the ability to grab bounties without going to the tower.

          • Good for this guy! It took me 5 years to realize roughly the same thing. Destiny is a whole lot of the same with little bits of new and exciting sprinkled in... That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it’s definitely a thing.

            • D1 was amazing before it came out. They went with activisions ideas at the time and fired Joe Staten their lead writer; claiming his story was too linear. I think you know what they meant, it was too much and they wanted a simple, p2w, micro transaction laden, easy looter shooter. They pursued this path, with the story in so many shambles they had to create an online “grimoire” system to explain more via text. Read them though, it’s like a failed art major googled big space words to make ominous lore entries. They make no sense, explained nothing, and highlighted how the game was already dead before being launched due to firing their main brain behind the game. Joe directed halo btw. So now d1 is out, it’s a disaster but ppl are excited. Over time they begin saying exactly what your post just said. Bungie releases d2 as an attempt to write a new story with new characters, essentially damage control from the wreck that was d1s story. Activision super monetizes d2, sensing the games dying. For reasons unknown and only theorized, bungie and activision separate after d2s release. Now we’re stuck with the shell of d1 created into an even smaller shell called d2, with the main company funding the game being out of the picture, their best writer gone to the ages, with systems from all 6 years jumbled in place. The games probably gonna die before they ever get it right. Just leave now man. Hopefully they see your new player perspective and take it in

Second, you’re only three months in, you’re already feeling like quitting, and you haven’t become hopelessly addicted like the rest of us poor -blam!-... run. Just run right for the hills and don’t look back. It’s too late for the rest of us but at least you can still save yourself.

Sorry about the rant, but a lot of things has to change for the game to be enjoyable.
Almost everything about your post is BS, no offense. There is very little you cant figure out by reading and since you have to go online for LFG anyway, you can search up or use the forums for help. This is a community game. What's this about "To actually play the game"? No you're playing the game the moment you clear the tutorial. We had to do the same thing back in 2017 to unlock the Tower and you can basically go right to it. Power level is nothing new in the kind of game Destiny is. Imagine needing to be the right level to play something. Oh the horror. This must be your first MMO. Sunsetting has nothing to do with the current season or state of the game. That will be an issue for Beyond Light. Right now, you can use any weapon from year 2 and up in any activity. As far as bounties, you aren't required to zerg the shit out of the game. You're only supposed to do the ones tied to the activites you like doing and the Well Rested buff every week will ensure that you will max out your season pass which isnt supposed to be done overnight. If you could, tell me, what the hell would you be playing or grining for once you got the cool stuff at the end of the pass which, guess what? Is mostly cosmetic. You are getting burned out because you think you need the sweet cosmetic stuff like yesterday. See how dumb that sounds? The stuff at the end of the pass is for dedicated players. You don't have to grind for 60 hours aggressively to play the new content. If you just do your weekly milestones for your incremental power increases, you will take on Prophecy at the appropriate level in a month...and there are 3 months in a season. But you're mad because you want to be able to do it when you want to so you can be done, complain that there's nothing to do and play a different game. Players like you will never be happy. As far as Raids? This has been this way since 2014 and the complaint is tired. Get new material. PvP and communication? I'll give you that. I'm super concerned about that too.

                    • Considering that the PS5 and new XBOX1X are launching in November along with tons of new and exciting games Ask yourself a simple question. On November 10 are people going to pay 80 dollars for an expansion/season pass of a 4 year old game using outdated graphics, outdated engine and outdated servers. An expansion that includes one tiny moon and one old regurgitated map from D1. Or are they going to invest in a new exciting game. But On the Bright side there is Sun-setting, Trials and of Course CBMM.

                      • Yeah Destiny is/would be a great game if they just didn't -blam!- it up with bad grinding mechanics among a few other smaller issues as well. I agree that destiny has captured my imagination like no other game, but I had to stop playing after forsaken for many of these same reasons. Ive been thinking about coming back for beyond light, I'm quite interested in what the black triangles are and darkness powers sound bad ass. However after perusing through the forums it sounds like things are worse than ever. Pretty easy to see how the increased capping and resetting they are doing now makes things feel even more pointless. It really just comes down to the fact that the game makes you waste vast amounts of time to accomplish anything you want to do which sends a message to the customer that they don't think your time is valuable, which isn't a good business model. At this point in my life it's hard to justify spending so much time to acquire a gun, or a little shaders or whatever silly item in a video game that has one kind of special perk or whatever when I could be doing something that going to actually have a positive impact/influence on my life. As you have said it's supposed to be fun not a tedious chore to play, I still love destiny but I can't support it when they are just giving a big F You to their fan base that has stuck with them and supported them through the rough times we all know destiny has seen. I may still pick up beyond light and play through the main story to see what happens but hard to see myself really investing much time on destiny unless they actually start addressing some of the major quality of life issues that has plagued us since the days of D1. I really hope they finally do though.

The power level grind is what makes the game extremely boring. We should be able to play any activity and get higher level gear all the time, not just once a week. In D1, I could do anything I wanted and be able to get powerful gear, such as faction packages, exotic engrams, strike specific loot, IB rewards, and Archon Forge drops. Infusion was simple and all class gear was able to be infused into gear from every class, so you could level up 3 characters at once. Pinnacle gear doesn't need to exist. The Master and Grandmaster difficulties won't be played by 99% of the player base, so why do they exist? Make content for everyone, not elitists. If you're gonna sunset anything, sunset PvP and Trials until you can implement dedicated servers and anti-cheat. Permanently separate PvP and PvE. You could have prevented a bunch of unnecessary nerfs and upset players if you had just done this from the start. Make an enjoyable story campaign that's longer than a few missions. Bring back the faction system from D1. Everything in Eververse should be earnable by playing the game. Bounties should give way more xp. Bring back Gjallarhorn. Stop making seasonal catalyst quests that require hundreds of activities or PvP to complete.
