Masterworking exotic armor is too expensive

3 ascendant shards for 1 exotic armor piece, with no extra seasonal mod slot, no extra stat buffs, how is this even worth it? Yes we can all mindlessly farm for them but it doesn't feel fair or worth it. The cost needs to drop to 1 ascendant shard to make it "worth it" as you're already missing out on that extra mod slot.

  • I just wish every time I reset my crucible card I could get a guaranteed shard. I hate nightfalls and I don’t always have people to play with

  • Speaking of armor materials, why do ascendant shards cap out at 10, while not being able to put a full stack in the vault? I can’t even redeem the last two ascendant shards in the season pass because of this. I guess I could spend two of them, but I hardly ever fully max out the energy slots to 10 on armor pieces anyways. Plus ever since Bungie said they’d sunset legendary armor with legendary weapons, I have an even greater reason to just hold on to them I think.

    • Masterworking armor is worse than taking out a mortgage for a house. Multiple steps and you’re down a testicle by the time the process is complete

    • Masterworking in general is far too expensive considering stuff expires pointlessly now.

    • Unpopular opinion: i think masterworking is a pretty lame system. Why not just make a more robust customization system instead? I was thinking in lines of WoW or Diablo’s slotting gems and buffs onto armor for customization. Would be cool to be able to take up crafting jobs for this.

    • Then don’t do it, the buffs aren’t that great anyways.
Sorry, all out of salt.
• Can be, but worth it and exotic armour isn't being sunsetted so no biggie.

    • My original interpretation of the new armor system when it was first announced was a system where you could put any mods in any area and you would get five mods slots on each piece of armor. Masterworking the gear would increase the amount of points you would have to equip mods (right now it is a max of five with all pieces of gear. With that being said, I think that only allowing one of the same general mods would be necessary. I'd say a good change would be the following: Increase the point values from 10 to 15 base. And each masterwork point would increase it by one. So a fully masterworked piece of gear would be 25. Each mod value in the game would be increased by 1 point to compensate. You can only equip one of each general mods per piece of armor. Mod slots increased to 5. Seasonal mods would work the same way they do now. ARMOR WOULD NOT BE POWER CAPPED; the only thing that would matter is that the seasonal mods would work the way they do now. To make it a bit more balanced, endgame materials would be included in more activities but it would also cost more to upgrade your armor to give it meaning and effort: Legendary armor: - 10 enhancement cores - 6 enhancement prisms - 2 ascendant shards Exotic armor: - 10 enhancement cores - 8 enhancement prisms - 4 enhancement shards Just my two cents.

    • how about refund 1 ascendant shard from masterworked armor, 1 from dismantled unmasterworked exotic armor like they did in d1, and 3 from masterworked exotics. and maybe 10 enhancement prisms for curated weapons

When they changed masterwork cores to enhancement cores is when the cost for everything in this game turned for the worst and it's been non-stop since. It's funny how some players thought that things wouldn't get worse with this company when Activision left. The thing about all this, that is part of why the cost to masterwork an item went up among other things. What has me curious is what stupid new thing they are going to come up with when they changed things like materworking items, and how we infuse items for the umpteenth time because they don't know what creating a foundation or what the word consistency actually means.
